Our flesh will also die, and no longer will it be able to have urges which allow it to tempt the soul. The spirit is the immortal part of us. Which always gets interchanged with soul. Soul and spirit are not the same. When our spirit unites with the holy spirit, we are in Christ and Christ is in us. Your spirit is you before you were born, through life, and after death. Your spirit doesn't change when your will changes, not when your mind changes, emotion change, or body change. The subject that Christians struggle the most putting into words, is about the spirit. Which is a good thing. Our "mind" and our hearts are not always in harmony. The heart which hosts the spirit cannot be navigated by the mind. The spirit navigates the will, the will navigates the mind, mind over emotions. And emotions over flesh. This is the holy way. If you lead by the mind, you will never have enough answers. Show us a passage in which he was alive when dead please. He was dead 3 days and nights, or he is a liar. Hades is the underworld. No one lives there but by myth. Hell is the grave, the pit, the abode of the dead. No one living there either. Gehenna, is the trash dump outside Jerusalem, where random fires burn, and stray dogs hang out. In Gehenna fire, you DIE. The dead know, and do, nothing. On top of that, HE said he would be DEAD. Show us a passage, so you can abandon the Sunday keeping Prince, as there is none.

I agree 100%. People that are preaching Jesus suffered in hell are WRONG. When He said “it is finished” in John 19:30 - He meant it was FINISHED. Everything He set out to do at that point was complete. Jesus’ “hell” was on the cross when He became separated from the Father for our sin. When Jesus did go to hell, He kicked butt and took names. Amen. Jesus suffered on the cross shed his blood and descended into hell victorious and took the keys of Hell death and the grave. He did not suffer in hell but went there victoriously. The cross was enough. He preached to those in Abraham’s bosom and led them out of Sheol and brought them to heaven. He led captivity captive and led a train of vanquished foes. He made us more than conquerors through the cross.

That's funny, considering death and hell, are tossed into the lake of fire in Revelation. And you though hell, is the lake of fire? According to Christ, no one lives in hell. Mt. 10:28. The wage of sin, is death. NOT life in torment. Ro. 6:23. Do you like the Bible contradicting? It doesn't, you just believe nonsense from some ordained seminary graduates. Try the actual Bible for a change. Start by knowing the new testament is translated from Greek. Hell in Greek, is the grave, the pit, the abode of the dead, not anyone living. Don't confuse the punishment for Satan as the punishment for sinners, as he is already immortal, can't die, and deserves eternal torment, bless your heart. You already know the word "hell", is often and everywhere. Stop believing it's a place of eternal torment. It's only death that's permanent if you don't enter the kingdom. It's called the second death in Revelation. Yes, the Bible.

The Greek phrase aionas ton aionon, which is translated "forever and ever," occurs 18 times in the Greek New Testament. In 17 of them, the phrase means without end, extending into infinity. In Rev. 19:3, the phrase is used to describe the destruction of the great whore of Babylon (Rev. 17:1,4) whose smoke ascends forever and ever. It too is eternal and it signifies the beginning of the eternal judgment that comes upon her. Also worth examining is Rev. 14:11: "And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name." The Greek in Rev. 14:11 is only slightly different. In the table above, "forever and ever" is translated from the Greek, aionas ton aionon, which is literally "ages of the of ages." In Rev. 14:11, the Greek is aionas aionon which is literally, "ages of ages." In the latter, the single Greek word "of the" is missing. But it is not necessary and does not change the meaning of the text. Therefore, the scripture teaches the smoke of their torment goes up forever, without end. Unquenchable Fire Some believe that the fires of hell are symbolic and/or temporal. But the following verses show that they are not. Matt. 3:12 says, "And His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire." (See also Luke 3:17.) Mark 9:43 says, "And if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire." The word "unquenchable" is asbestos in the Greek. According to the enhanced Strong's lexicon, it means "unquenchable, the eternal hell fire to punish the damned." The following citations are from Greek dictionaries and Lexicons. They show that the word "unquenchable," which is asbestos in the Greek, (which occurs only in Matt. 3:12, Luke 3:17, and Mark 9:43) means unquenchable, without end. "unquenchable, inextinguishable"2 "not quenched"3 "pertaining to a fire that cannot be put out" - "unquenchable."4 "unquenched, unquenchable"5 "that cannot be put out"6 "inextinguishable"7 Is hell eternal? Yes it is. Are its fires without end? Yes they are. Is it a pleasant doctrine to discuss? Not really. But, hell is real. This is all the more reason to preach the gospel. Jesus said, "And if your hand or your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; it is better for you to enter life crippled or lame, than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into the eternal fire," (Matt. 18:8). Revelation 19:20: "And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them see that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone." Revelation 20:10 "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." Revelation 20:14-15 "Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." [NKJV] Revelation 21:8 "But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death." Your sarcasm show you have no fear of God - due to your incorrect beliefs. Sarcasm is not love - Paul said, If you don't have love - you have nothing.

The word Hell as Used in the old testament Originally, the old English word hell simply meant to conceal, to hide, to cover. In old English literature, records may be found of the helling of potatoes-putting potatoes into pits; and of the helling of a house-covering or thatching it. The word hell was therefore properly used if the translators were using the word hell as the hidden condition of death. However, because of the blending of truth with pagan error, the word hell became associated with Zoroaster’s underworld of torment, and thus, the word hell was re-defined as a punishment more ominous than just the grave. The word Hell as Used in the old testament Understanding the Bible definition of the word hell is key to establishing a proper doctrinal position on the subject. The Old Testament Scriptures were written in the Hebrew language. The words hell, grave and pit were selected by the translators of the King James Bible to express the sense of the Hebrew word sheol. The same translators chose the word grave or pit in the Old Testament when sheol was to be the resting place for good people, and translated it as hell when referring to a bad person. This clearly shows the bias of these translators. An example of this bias is evident in the case of the patriarch Job. “O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave [sheol]... until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!” (Job 14:12-13) Here, righteous Job is speaking of hiding from his pain in the grave, sheol, waiting in sleep until the resurrection. How absurd it would have been for Job to have prayed to God to hide him in a hell of eternal torture, and so, the translators used the word grave and not hell. Now compare Job 14:13 with Psalm 86:13, which reads: “Thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell [sheol].” The Hebrew word sheol, being the same in both cases, there is no reason why the same word, grave, should not be used in both. Indeed, sheol does not mean torment, but quite the reverse: instead of a place of blazing fire it is described in the context as a state of darkness (Job 10:21), and instead of representing in any sense pain and suffering, in each case, the context describes sheol as a place or condition of silence (Psa. 115:17; Psa. 88:11,12) “There is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, in the grave [sheol] whither thou goest.” Eccl. 9:10 examples oF Hell [hades] in the new testament In the New Testament, the Greek word hades corresponds exactly to the Hebrew word sheol. In Acts 2:27, for example, “Thou wilt not leave my soul in hades,” is a quotation from Psalm 16:10, “Thou wilt not leave my soul in sheol [the grave].” In 1 Cor. 15:54,55, “Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave [hades], where is thy victory?” is an allusion to Isaiah 25:8, “He will swallow up death in victory” and to Hosea 13:14, “O death, I will be thy plagues; O sheol [grave], I will be thy destruction.” Even though hades is defined in these scriptures as the grave, biased translators still rendered the same word, hades, as hell in Luke 10:15. “And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell [hades].” Again, since the Greek word hades is the same in both cases, there is no reason why the word grave should not be used consistently. parables & symbolisms A key to understanding Scripture is knowing when something is to be interpreted literally or as a symbolic picture of something else. Often, God will tell the reader in Scripture what the symbols mean. An example is the dream of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel Chapter 2 where the symbols in the dream are interpreted. At times, however, the reader must recognize symbolisms without the aid of Divine interpretation to find the true meaning of a scripture. This is true with the symbolic language the lake of fire in Revelation 20, the chains of darkness of 2 Peter 2, and the everlasting fire of Matthew 13 and 25. In the New Testament two highly symbolic words are translated as hell; namely, gehenna and tartaroo. Cultural anthropology gives an important clue as to the real meaning of these words. The Valley of Hinnom, called gehenna, lay just outside the city of Jerusalem, and served the purpose of garbage burner to that city. Its fires were kept continually burning to completely consume all things deposited there, brimstone being added to assist combustion and insure complete destruction. But no living thing was ever permitted to be cast into gehenna. God’s Law to the Jews prevented torture of any kind to any creature. In addition to garbage, certain very detestable criminals, being refused a dignified burial, were thrown into gehenna after death. These were cast with the carcasses of dead dogs, the city garbage, etc., into gehenna, there to be totally consumed. Thus, in symbol, gehenna illustrated the future dealings of God in committing to destruction all the impure elements of this earth, thereby preventing them from defiling His holy city, the New Jerusalem. This symbolic burning of all evil elements is termed in Scripture the Second Death-final and complete destruction. From this there can be no recovery, for after that, “there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,” but only “fiery indignation which shall devour [destroy] the adversaries.” Heb. 10:26-27 We also find it stated that those not found worthy of life are to be cast into the lake of fire (Rev. 20:15)-fire here, as elsewhere, being used as a symbol of destruction, and the symbol, lake of fire, being drawn from this same gehenna. Thus, the trial of the Millennial age of judgment is a time of fully proving and separating, with unerring accuracy, the sheep (those who hear and obey the Master’s voice) from the goats (those who rebel in disobedience). (Matt. 25:31-46) Then all the righteous will see the justice as well as the wisdom of the utter destruction of the incorrigible, wilful enemies of righteousness, as it is written: “They shall be an abhorring unto all flesh.” Isa. 66:24 The Greek word tartaroo occurs but once in the Scriptures, and has been translated hell: “God spared not the angels who sinned, but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness,

Scripture calls the abode of the dead, to which the dead Christ went down, "hell" - Sheol in Hebrew or Hades in Greek - because those who are there are deprived of the vision of God. Such is the case for all the dead, whether evil or righteous, while they await the Redeemer, which does not mean that their lot is identical, as Jesus shows through the parable of the poor man Lazarus who was received into Abraham's bosom. It is precisely these holy souls, who await their Saviour in Abraham's bosom, whom Christ the Lord delivered when he descended into hell. Jesus did not descend into hell to deliver the damned, nor to destroy the hell of damnation, but to free the just who had gone there before him.

In Greek mythology, Hades is both the land of the dead and the god who rules there. Scripture often uses the term hell-Sheol in Hebrew and Hades in Greek-to refer to the abode of the dead, which consisted of both the righteous and the unrighteous who were deprived of the vision of God. Jesus did not go to the location of the damned, but those who were waiting for the opening into Heaven. The "bosom of Abraham" he called it. Remember the rich man and Lazarus, the poor soul with sores the dogs licked. There was a separation of the righteous and unrighteous.

Seems to me when they found only the strips of cloth and the headscarf, they saw those strips of cloth as though they'd been wrapped around a body laying flat, or were flattened, as there was no body inside them. They weren't unwrapped, as Lazarus was unbound by others because he couldn't do it himself. Messiah disappeared from within the windings of cloth, leaving them to settle flat on the surface where he'd been laid to rest. The Shroud of Turin? Pfft... anyone could've escaped from beneath a single sheet wound once lengthwise.

Jesus said to the thief on the cross, "Today you will be with me in Paradise" not tomorrow, firstly, I have to go to hell to make a proclamation. My understanding of Jesus' making a proclamation to those in hell is not to be taken literally. Jesus spoke through Noah to the people of that day who were now in hell, and had chosen to ignore the message of Salvation.

I agree with him, and he was honest enough to say that he didn't know for sure about certain details on the scripture. The Bible lacks a lot of needed knowledge because we shouldn't depend on the complete details from the registered events, but from the Holy Spirit who supernaturally provides clarity for those who truly are seeking out the wisdom of God.

"Hades" simply meant "the grave". He didn't have to go anywhere. His Father gave Him "the keys to death and the grave", because He accomplished what He came to Earth to do....which was take our punishment for sin so we didn't have to.

Derek Prince makes the error that many Christians make: they assume the dualistic pagan view of man where when man dies, he simply sheds his skin and lives on somewhere else. That is a pagan view of man not found in scripture. The Bible says that death is the reversal of man’s creation. God fashioned the man and breathed into him and the man became a living soul (or being). When he dies, his breath (spirit) returns to God and man returns to the dust. When someone dies they are dead. Period. They don’t float away and live somewhere else.

Jesus told the criminal who was being crucified with him "TODAY you will be with me in paradise". So though Jesus descended into Hades, he mustn't have stayed long (and certainly not the entire time until the resurrection). There are other verses that indicate he was in the presence of the Father (Luke 23:46; Ephesians 4:8)

Died on a late Friday afternoon (the day of preparation - the 6 day of the week), so he was literally dead from Friday evening (the Seventh Day - Saturday as we know it), and on the first day of the week (we know as Sunday) he was raised. Nobody actually knows the details of what happened as there is no mention in the scriptures of those details. All we are told is that he went there before he rose on the 3rd day. We can form a pretty good idea of what took place based on what Jesus said after he rose, but we will never know for sure, at least not while we are here on earth.

Derek Prince is the only preacher i have heard say Jesus soul went to Hades. I don't know how he could have concluded this from the Bible. At least he admitted that he may be wrong. He did not explain what the bible means by 'spirit' or 'soul'. Rather than use the Hebrew understanding of this and hades, he assumes the pagan Greek understanding that the Church later embraced. In his version, Jesus did not really die (the great satanic lie) but 'preached to the spirits - and yet nowhere does the ytext say that he did this while he was dead.
