The US military LOVES working with the aussies. I had a great time with the few lads I got to train with. You're great fighters and we get along like old friends. If the UK was our dad that makes us brothers! I've had a different experience, a lot of places offer military discounts and even though I'm retired they'll still give it to me and always thank me up and down. I don't think I did anything special but there's still a lot of love for the boys in green, just maybe not in the hippie, dippie community.

I was in a critical moto accident putting me in a coma taking several years to heal, the first time i woke up they put me back incorrect causing nerve pain. I had to recover 2 months only for them to break me apart and fix it. While that 2 months was happening i was in constant severe nerve pain. I wanted to kill myself. So i get it. Its a pain so deep no one know unless they have had it.

The thing I love about these Unit guys is the switch. I’ve rarely seen one who’s big and buff like the SEALs, they usually look like suburban dudes with fanny packs and not “operators”. But man trust me, they have a switch they flip when it’s time to roll and they are literally frightening. It’s like being in a room with Hannibal Lector, one minute you’re talking culture and philosophy, next second you realize you’re not gonna make it out of the room.

The British army introduced drug testing in the 90,s and anyone tested positive was immediately dishonourably discharged. There were that many positive that the battalions were understrength in a very short space of time so they brought in a certain level of tolerance whereby any offenders had to go on a rehab course and not criminalised. It's a shame to lose good men to drugs.

PEDs aren’t so simple for healing. Just in terms of tissue integrity, PEDs will facilitate muscle growth far faster than ligaments and tendons. You can run the risk of reinjury or worse injury, and they tear your organs to shreds. There’s no quick fixes in healing, gotta let your body run its course.

Normal drug testing does not test for riods. The reality is command has to specifically request a steroid drug test and that is very rare.

Tir-1 units have a little bit different SOP and requirements. Regular units testing for steroids or other exotic substances is a matter of cost. In Tier-1 units testing for everything is a matter of keeping performance at the highest level and protecting the operators that are the best and most expensive assets.

Back when I was a private, cool guys could walk on water, eat bullets, and shit ice cream. Going into the Iraq invasion my first sergeant was a delta guy that got jammed up and had to do his penitence over an infraction. They stuck him in HHC because my company commander was a navy seal who got jammed up and wouldn't stay in the navy if he wasn't doing some gangster shit so he went to OCS and transferred to the army. Guys like them are are a unique breed. True warriors down to the core, men who wouldn't think twice about walking into hell to do what needs to be done that you'd jump up and follow because you have no question they'd roll with you. I remember doing chin ups in Iraq right after the war and my first sergeant was getting his conditioning back because we hadn't been able to run in months. Dude ran about 5 miles at a dead sprint in his body armor, with his kevlar, weapon and ammo. Ran up to the pullup bars we had just built and his little 5'5" ass jumped up grabbing that bar like Michael Jordan. I was probably at about 15 when he started telling me "If you can't do at least 60 chin ups in your gear, you're fucking worthless in urban operations!" I laughed and he'd already dropped and hit his sprint again as I finished up getting about 25-28 or something. I watched him sprint around this road like a psychopath and what he said finally sank in. That wasn't a joke. He probably banged out 60 chin ups giving himself a quick rest while he was sprinting his laps.

In an SFODA, you go to the B Team, you sit there until another Team Sergeant gives you a chance. If you don’t move back to a team because you can’t “get it” they send you to BN Headquarters, and you work your MOS in an HQ capacity. If you are an 18E, you’ll work for the BN Commo shop, if your an 18B, you may get the Arms room, or BN HQ Arms room. Once you “get it” you’ll go to a team that is hurting for people. This is your last chance to get on a team…..screw that up, you’re on a BTeam, then when they need bodies for SWC, pack your bags.

I recall a few SEALs who spoke of a Navy Ensign, BUD/S trainee who was so obnoxious, over bearing, crass the Navy cadre, mental health unit, Spec War officers DXed the guy. Something that rarely happens: 2000-2020 era except for a background issue or $$$ problem. The Ensign was in great shape, passed all exams, tests. He just was not a Teams ⚓️ guy.

I think Tom satterly spoke about being sort of kicked out/forced to retire from Delta force for having some steroids in his system. Apparently he ordered stuff online but wasn’t aware of the contents, I think he was buying some workout supplements and it had some chemicals that was tested and came out positive as a hit on the test. Some doctor or something in the army didn’t bother believing in Tom and pushed the issue which made him retire.

A veteran friend of mine told me a majority of the SF operators he came across were quite open about the use of HGH, Test E, blood doping, etc. They are completely justified in using PEDs but it is ridiculous to portray that as being some kind of violation of the culture.

So weird hearing this juxtaposed with Adam Brown. I can’t remember if he was in development group or just in a seal team at that point and I can’t remember if his command ever knew about it, but the dude was addicted to crack before he joined the navy and had a relapse when he was a seal. Also, D-Day was postponed a day due to weather. Edit: none of this is to say that Adam Brown wasn’t a complete badass. He died in Afghanistan with development group and at that point, he was missing all the fingers on his right hand and had one eye. He may have been missing a leg too but I can’t remember and I don’t think so. Dude kicked an addiction to crack and learned to shoot at a tier one level left handed and with one eye

The Team House had an interview with a Delta Operator that was fired, told to leave the Unit. It was due to several things, including difference of opinion on strategy and disclosing the event to someone. He wasn't given an option to go to a different squadron. Turns out later on in his career he ends up working for the guy that got him kicked from the unit. forgot the guy's name.

Appreciate this topic. Almost verbatim described my work history, during and after my 6 years, non combat in the Air Force. I tend to question silliness, incompetence, not sparing my own by the way, of various experiences in and out of the service. It can get very lonely quick, I found out, and somehow I danced between the rain drops till I gladly got out. There is no question in my mind how service personnel came home with problems, who didn't question the idiocy of what they experienced, including criminality which I didn't recognize then, but do now! Great topic, guest, and show. By the way, my prime example is the Mike Murphy story who vehemently questioned being sent in with 3 other operators in the Red Wing debacle, where satellite images showed very dangerous, sparse vegetation-coverage for their own protection, against a force of 100+ Taliban forces, and you know the death/disaster that followed.

I used to be a A&P mechanic and was a civil service employee for the Navy and I worked on their helicopters during depot maintenance, I saw a Navy guy walk in the hangar one day in his dress whites and I noticed the rocker on his shoulder said Seal Team Two and later he comes out in a flight suit with these other guys in flight suits, they were called AWs and I was thinking what's a SEAL doing flying with AWs??So I wondered if he got in trouble or something and they put him in a aviation unit to train as a AW.

I have lived with chronic pain all my life, 20 years, I survived torture, I survive 10 hours jogging in the forest with an injury and a cup of soup, plus that same night, I almost had hypothermia. I survived attempted murder as a civlian and so on. In fact I've never been deployed nor am I part of the military, I just had an extremely tough life. I'm so in pain that if someone pushes me on the ground, I feel less in pain because of the adrenaline. I think taking all that into account, I am considering becoming a special force operator, and even that is a BIG maybe. Joining special forces without any of those previous experiences is IMHO, complete insanity. I come from a mob hood, and I'm not gonna be a gangster. But I know there's a part of me that's cut out for exactly this.

By the rule book to hold a security clearance. Your not suppose to dabble in ALCHOL, drugs, lot lizards etc. anything you can be extorted or compromised with. but here’s the unfortunate truth. I know dozens of guys who went years in Delta & Devgru who were using Benzos, Z-Drugs (Ambien), Opiods, & ALCHOL on a daily basis. Technically dependent/addicted. Also they normalize infidelity. So everything that’s a problem I’ve seen it equally from JSOC, SOCOM, and military in general. But it seems to be worse in SOF. You will hear publicly “Ohh We DONT DO THAT! WE DONT ALLOW IT!” My experience is. Everybody turns a blind eye up until it starts interfering with work. But if your functioning they would just ignore it. This is why TBI/PTSD/Suicides we always find the guys on drugs or ALCHOL are mostly the ones that struggle the most. The sober ones I never hear them mention it.

Happened to a DEVGRU guy (Seal team 6), he was sent home, joined the FFL (French Foreign Legion) where you are given a new identity and a new life. IMHO the FFL is the most badass army corp in the world. They give a second chance to people who had nothing in front of them and have nothing to lose, from all over the world, to serve France but also all NATO countries. I respect that he assumed his mistakes and went ahead to retaliate. No doubt one of the toughest man in the world. Even the GIGN are in awe of the legion. If you want the best infantry soldiers in the world, who have nothing to lose and will hold an impossible position forever and do the most suicide mission in a heartbeat, look no further than the legion. It's the first time I heard that a special op vet did join tho. I'm French and very proud that we give a second chance to ANYONE in the world!

There’s a few battalions of US Army Rangers who would disagree, and for sure SFOD-D and SAS that differ… I think it’s really important to understand the differences and strengths of each unit and respect these historic and elite units in their own regard. Personally I’d qualify for meal team 6 as an 11 Taco these days but I have a lot of respect for these elite organizations on the tip of the spear maintaining their lethal capabilities at all times.

There are great benefits and essentially no negative effects as long as there are regular blood tests. I'm not talking about tren or deca or anything like that. I agree there is no need for those.

I’m trying to understand why “performance enhancing drugs” are bad, in the this context. I understand it in sports - it’s a sportsmanship issue. But these operators are expected to perform consistently at near superhuman levels, kill people, and guarantee victory. Can someone articulate the reason the PEDs are forbidden? It feels moralistic and self defeating.

Forgive my simplistic approach…. Thank you sir! As one who is 50 years old, watch movies dreamt about the hero position owns guns in a home yet is not a military badass, I said, thank you. I don’t you thank you I think your family for their sacrifice as well. Cannot be easy wanna log away in theater handling business And the family is just left. Fingers crossed, hoping the best. I think that sacrifices itself is probably more difficult to some extent.
