In my haste to get filming and the kit fitted I forgot to confirm my bikes head angle as standard. It’s claimed to be 73.5 and both my tyres are the same size etc so I took this to be correct on good faith. I am confused why this 1.5 degree kit has slackened the bike off by 3.5 degrees though, either inspired are wrong, I’ve fitted things incorrectly or there’s more at play than I expected (shorter wheelbase creating a smaller arc around the rear hub exaggerating the effect or the lower cup lifting the frame and also exaggerating it (or both))…any thoughts?

Also the angle measuring App could be wrong / imprecise ...
@GrigoryRechistov7 ай бұрын
Any measurement of any physical value has limited accuracy. A measurement without estimation of its confidence interval value is of very limited use; it cannot be compared against other numbers. It only gives a magnitude of the phenomenon. Reliable measurement process is not an easy thing to get right, as one learns when doing any sort of science.

The headset angles change the HT angle by 1.5 degrees, but adding the extra HS cup under the headtube makes for a "longer fork" and another 2 degree change?
@richardelsdon20277 ай бұрын
The lower headset up height is not usually factored into the angle change on these things (might be different with 9point8) and adding 10mm under the headtube will knock the angle back almost a degree as well. Its not uncommon for frame manufacturers to not hit their claimed numbers tho.

I’d say 70 is too slack for a bike that’s dedicated for street riding so inspired are smart for not going too slack but I do feel bigger wheels need different head angles than on smaller ones…the smaller the wheel the steeper you can (or need) to go, that’s why BMXs are so steep and scooters are even steeper. I think 73.5 on the Hex is slightly too much and actually hurts the bikes ability to carve spins (not that it’s impossible, plenty of people can and do 360 Hexes) and maybe a degree slacker could improve the ride slightly

Slackening the fork lowers the front end and adding the lower cup raises it, so nominally it is nearly a wash so the BB should more or less stay unchanged. If you install the kit the other way around to steepen the angle, it will raise the BB a fair bit.

Ive been saying this for YEARS for road bikes, they get it right on all endurance and gravel bikes but all road racing bikes are about 1-1.5* too steep and too quick/nervous steering. This is exactly why you see the pros riding frame sizes at least 1 sometimes 2 sizes too small for them BUT super compensating with a 130mm or even 140mm stems to make them have the same overall proper fit but to slow down the steering! its crazy. also its the same reason why theres so much "toe overlap" on road bikes...

It would be great if inspired could make a bike with a longer wheelbase, longer reach and slacker head tube. There’s a some stuff of that I find better with trials on a mountain bike, it would be cool to have a trials bike with a different geometry.
@peglor7 ай бұрын
There's literally nothing available in 24" or 26" with long geometry, a high BB and dual disks on the trials market since Echo stopped making bikes, which is annoying because that's what I like 😞. The sad thing is I'm at the point in life where I can afford any bike I want, but they're not being made.
@Ali_Clarkson7 ай бұрын
@walken199 I couldn’t agree more! I’ve actually been pestering Inspired to make something just like that…a bike that is in between a MTB and a street trials bike. Even though the Hex is Inspired’s most MTBy model it’s still an extreme bike and someone coming from MTB would still find it a handful. Having a model that’s more relaxed with a slacker head angle, lower bb and longer wheelbase (maybe suspension corrected) would make a fantastic middle-ground bike that would be more forgiving to ride and also a great jack of all trades model. Sadly prototypes are expensive to make and the state of the industry means money is tight for all brands (including Inspired) so I don’t see this happening any time soon :(
@walken1997 ай бұрын
@@Ali_Clarkson it is a shame, because I truly believe that they would be a market for this kind of bike, I personally have been searching for a MTB that would have a geometry more suited for doing trials, but it seems like these days BB are getting lower, head tubes are getting slacker and chainstays are getting longer. Imagine a trials bike that could handle some easier trails, This could open up a lot of possibilities of doing new stuff on a trials bike, and who better than you to promote this kind of bike. I have one question, if you could design a trials bike closer to a MTB would you have it on 26 inch wheels or 27,5?

I’m thinking slacker will make the bike feel more Oldschool and maybe be easier to swap between my MTB without it feeling super twitchy.
