You visited the part of the country that is mostly inhabited by Turkish settlers, not by native indigenous Turkish-speaking Cypriots, I would appreciate it more as a Cypriot (Turkish speaking) to see introduction of Turkish-speaking Cypriots, not solely the Turkish settlers.
@leoprg533010 ай бұрын
Can you tell us what's the difference between the two mentioned above?
@TheLastDividedCapital10 ай бұрын
@@leoprg5330 I already responded to you once but my comment keeps being deleted. That is why I will take a screenshot of this one and expose it if this one also gets deleted. So, the Turkish-speaking Cypriots (Turkish Cypriots) are the native and indigenous populations of the Republic of Cyprus and the European Union. Turkish Cypriots are among the most liberal Muslims in the Western world as we never go to the mosque or cover our heads, we have anti-discrimination laws for LGBT people and the media is free where newspapers can have headlines exposing the Turkish invasion and its consequences. However, in the video, most of the people he encountered are overwhelmingly Turkish settlers who are very different culturally compared to Turkish Cypriots and the border gate is very close to the places where they live. therefore, he crossed but without talking to locals, he started to talk with Turkish settlers who do not represent us. On the contrary, we are actually very against Turkish interventions and influence on our country and their increasing population is becoming a growing concern for Turkish Cypriots. You can read the following article by one of the leading newspapers in the UK, www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/26/thousands-of-turkish-cypriots-demonstrate-against-ankara As a Turkish Cypriot, I have never seen for example a single woman covering their head. We are culturally very different from Turkish settlers. We do not even speak the exact same language. Turkish Cypriots speak Cypriot Turkish which has its own unique words as well as influence of Greek and Italian.

I was interested if there's a difference in rights to move across the island and EU between these two groups. Or are they classified as Turkish expats who came to North Cyprus for work?

Well done Rico. Just looked up some info on the Doner in Germany - I had a great one last time I was in Berlin. Turkish doner, which was once popularized in Germany in 1970 by Turkish immigrants, is the most preferred food in Germany now. Despite the uncertainty of who was the first person to invent Turkish doner kebab, the immigrant Kadir Numan is widely credited for Turkish doner and its popularization in Berlin. Apart from the unknown inventor of Turkish doner kebab, it is a fact that Turkish doner shops in Berlin have outnumbered the ones in Turkey’s capital city, Istanbul. Having an authentic feature by being cooked and cut into pieces on a vertical rotisserie, Turkish doner has become the most preferred food in Germany and especially among Berliners, who used to prefer their own traditional sausage, currywurst. The popularity of Turkish doner has started after Turks’ immigration to the country and now it is clearly seen from the surveys that this cuisine has received the title as the most preferred food in Germany.

Cypriots can cross to the other side either with their ID (Cypriot) or Passport. Not sure if other EU citizens can use ID. It's much more interesting to go there by car. There are many places to explore and discover. It's good to carry with you a document with car details (e.g. insurance or ownership title) because they will ask info (year of manufacture, engine CCs, number of passengers, model etc). You can buy car insurance for either 1 month, 3 months, 6 months or 12 months. You will wait in queue before you cross to the other side (on a busy day/time it could take up to 1 hour). Driving there is easy, but beware of traffic cameras. They are everywhere! Prices are generally lower there. Some people buy petrol there (it's -40% of the price here).

08:50 Sorry, but you are a bit too ill-informed on a a number of issues, e.g., people pay quite a lot of taxes in the north. In fact, given the sanctions, you tend to pay more in the absence of a diversified economy and presence of sanctions. However, your video on buying property in the north was more or less spot on accurate. I've just discovered your channel. In fact, in old town, you will mostly find touristy stuff or in some quarters settlers from Turkey and elsewhere. Once you are out of the old town boundaries then you start discovering true blue Cyprus and in fact, to anyone's surprise, you'll find hell lot of similarities between Turkish and Greek Cypriots (despite the 50-year division). If you have a car, you can cross to north, get insurance and roll on. It's really worth it. Just be careful with road quality. As far as driving quality is concerned Greek and Turkish Cypriots are just as bad as each other =)))) but surely better than their mainland cousins. I was expecting a video taking you all over the Northern Side and showcasing the differences between the two.However,I do understand that it would take quite sometime for this production. Perhaps in the future. I am originally from Egypt but have lived in Sydney AUST for 60 years. What that lady was doing was plucking MOLOKHEYIA leaves,which in turn are cut in very small pieces via a half moon type of knife and mixed with a chicken or meat soup. It is mainly an Egyptian recipe and very popular in Egypt and is delicious. I am appalled how THICK in the head some people are,especially when you’ve made it abundantly clear right at the beginning of your video that politics is to be kept out and just showcasing what it’s like to cross the border and spend the day on the other side.Unfortunately some people CAN’T help themselves but drag politics just to stir unpleasant feelings.

All Turks in the video are settlers from Turkey.I can tell it by their accents. Cypiot Turks speak Turkish with a little accent. and they all speak perfectly english with a British accent
@JC196763 ай бұрын
Their English is good but they don't have an English accent at all. They sound different from Greek Cypriots and Turkish settlers when they speak English though.

thats the illigaly occupied part of Cyprus, barbaric turkish army murdered and stole land. avoid as its full of Islamic fascists and not controlled by any government. everything is cheaper because is its stolen from the Greeks, they didnt build anything they didn't create anything new, they just bring settlers form other Islamic countries to occupy the land they stole

For a person talking about how much you love Cyprus and how your life in Cyprus is great, you should be more mindful of the history of the island. The north occupied part is NOT called North Cyprus, as it is ILLEGALLY occupied by turkish troops, trying to pose as a legal entity. This is clearly propaganda and you just earned yourself an unfollower.
@Rico Жыл бұрын
I said this is not a political video at least 2 times. This video was absolutely objective, and I wanted to show what happens when you cross the border. I call it North Cyprus, because it's geographically in the North. I still appreciate your comment and opinion, and I have no problem with you unfollowing. But I think you could be open-minded enough to accept that I'm just a content creator sharing my life in Cyprus.
@cookerpower Жыл бұрын
@@Rico If what you are saying is true, you should have written north Cyprus. By capitalizing the N in North Cyprus you are actually making the illegal name given to the occupied part official yourself. I do believe that your intentions are not ill fated, but unfortunately this video is an act of normalizing the situation, as this is exactly what the illegal occupants are aiming for.
