LISTEN UP TO THOSE THINKING OF ENLISTING INTO THE USCG......You better read Julian's book through and through! And train EVERY SINGLE DAY. My son just graduated from Whiskey 198 (NO Ramps or Reversions). He said it was astounding how few knew their stuff and so SO many failed the first PT test. Many did not prepare and it showed. BC was hard as hell physically and it's hard to prepare for everything and nothing will prepare you for the mental part. He said that was the hardest! Watch those famous videos on KZbin. Julian reviews one of them. IT's just like that and more. Day 2 is the biggest 'quit' day of the camp. It's that hard! My son woke up to his first day in Alaska, stationed on the Douglas Munro. He studied and worked very very VERY hard to get where he is. You guys gotta earn it. If you think you're doing enough, then you're probably not and need to step it up! Semper Paratus!

This video was helpful and scary for me, I leave for bootcamp in 4 days and was having doubts about the pt test. I’m scared that I not gonna be able to pull through in the running segment, yet I have faith in myself, I’ve trained for 2 weeks and hit as much cardio as I could. I’m a pretty big guy 217 5’11 but I think I’ll manage.

My suggestion for passing the PT standards at Coast Guard boot camp is to double their requirements BEFORE you go to boot camp. If they require you to do a 1.5 mile timed run you should work up to being able to do a 3 mile run. If they require you to be able to do 100 sit-ups you should be able to do 200 sit-ups. If they require you to be able to do 50 push-ups you should work up to doing 100 push-ups. At boot camp you will be under intense pressure. People may be screaming at you and you will be getting timed. If you KNOW you can meet or exceed the PT standards you will have the confidence to succeed and you won't be drawing attention to yourself from your Company Commander. Your goal is to stay under their radar and NOT be noticed. Getting noticed means you will be singled out for special attention and maybe a Red Belt or a dreaded stay at RAMP where you will be physically abused (strenuous exercise till you puke kind of stuff) that may lead to reversion or even discharge. You want to be the invisible man and not be a target. The recruiter in this video sounds like a good guy and he has the right idea and wants his recruits to succeed. Some recruiters just want to make their monthly numbers and don't care if you crash and burn at Cape May. I'd follow his advice.

@@aresbumgaurtner4559 I’ve heard you fill out a “dream sheet” which they look at but at the end of boot you’ll be assigned somewhere that they need you, or somewhere you put on the sheet that they also needs you. It’ll most likely always be in the US Unless we’re at war, and in that case you can go over seas.

Thanks for this video I’m just getting in this trying to lose weight. My number one fear is failing this. I’m losing weight yes but for my run I can run for a good amount of time and long. Hold on... I don't remember giving consent for someone to use a photo of me as a thumbnail! Kidding, great graphic and video. One thing my local recruiter and I planned ahead for is to take as much time as possible for PT training as I transition out of Civ life. It's even more important now with how COVID is affecting weeks 1-3 of boot camp.

The recruiter can provide you an estimated time, but the lists are dynamic. If you are going Reserve, you'll have your "A" School reservation before leaving for boot camp.
