It should be noted that you can't actually kill her before you defeat the dancing lion. When I did it, she just lies down injured and cursing you, and recovers when the boss is defeated.

It's crazy because I did this and I got different dialogue when I entered the boss arena for the first time. it's the same exact cutscene, but now she's more sluggish and says different things like "Cleanse away the foulness fate imposed" and "Cleanse away the strumpets vile progeny"

so i killed eversthing but never had dialog with her, i only get three dots ... and i cant hit/kill her, no reatction at all, still get the three dots tho... any idea?

@@Ronzok_ It means you missed out the opportunity to complete her "questline". I made the same mistake. After you kill the Dancing Lion and Messmer WITHOUT interacting with horn granny you basically lose any chance to interact with her.

This is important, lore wise. Attacking the hornsent for "sacrifices" is something they did to themselves. No wonder Marika slaughtered so many of them and used their power to ascend. Thanks for the post.

Marika spent quite some time in the Scadulands as a God.. It's pretty strange how the denizens of here are so acutely aware of the Lands between but no one from the Erdtree side is very aware of this place ..

Interesting the similarities between Elden Ring and Bloodborne in this storyline Marika being both victim and victimizer, her people met a horrible fate at the hands of the Hornsent and in turn she enacts a terrible punishment. Marika is cursed and her children are cursed and the world she sought to create is tainted by her violent actions. There are no good guys in this story or good endings.

It also parallels an interesting theme where perceptions are ultimately what allows curses to fester at all as curses. By all means, Marika could have ignored the horned stuff with the Omen and effectively cause there to be no real curse, but she socially made it a curse because her own past's trauma was too strong to overlook the Omen as anything but a curse. She would pass this exact same mindset onto Morgott who would become self-loathing and miserable because he perceives himself as a curse, rather than look past it to see himself as the great ruler he is. Similar to how Radagon hated his red hair for being a petty minor curse of the fire giants when it's so petty and insignificant that by all means it wasn't even a hindrance to anything (especially when in contrast, Radahn thought the red hair was cool and made an entire warrior culture honoring the color red in peek irony). The curses don't mean or do anything, but rather people make super huge fusses about it to the point where the ignorable curses end up obtaining great power despite being almost purely aesthetic. The only actual "curse" that's a curse is Malenia's perpetual scarlet rot, but that wasn't even the result of the Hornsent curse but rather the outer god of rot being a troll and using her as a vessel. So the irony is that the Hornsent's omen curse is technically so weak and minor that it's pathetic, but Marika turned it into something massive due to her own obsessive hatred with all horned things.

I rather wonder if she was even right to hold the whole of Hornsent culture responsible. The jars appear to be isolated to Bonny Village and the Gaols, found no where else in The Land of Shadow to my knowledge other than The Shadow Keep infirmary. And considering that even some of those who grew up in Bonny Village itself found the practice abhorrent, if the Greater Potentate's Cookbooks are to be believed, then it can't have been that normalized where everyday Hornsent ritual was concerned In fewer words, I think it's pretty likely that Marika held the whole of the Hornsent responsible for the actions of a faction of zealots

In her defense, there's a good chance the average Hornsent didn't even know about the fate of the Shamans, considering we only see the jars in Bonny Village and the Gaols to my knowledge. And regardless, at the end of the day, Marika did *so* much worse to the Hornsent in retaliation Both their sins are terrible, but I wouldn't consider them equivalent, and two wrongs don't make a right

About Marika wrong doing you're completely right and that's the beauty of this kind of story where hate bring out other hate even thought I don't think Marika didn't do anything as bad as Hornsents except maybe the merchants but they where falsely accused of being frenzy cultists and even Hornsents where extremely cruel against Midra, in a sadistic way even as the sword of damnation stated
