What Happens If You One-Shot Doopliss In The Paper Mario Thousand-Year Door Remake?

A while ago, I wanted to answer a question I had as a kid in TTYD if you could beat Doopliss before Vivian showed up in the fight,and was surprised that the game just let him die. So naturally, I wanted to see what would happen if you did that during the fight in the remake and.......the results were VERY surprising. Much like last time, I am posting this for the sake of documentation, I recorded it and am posting it here for others who were curious about the same thing

Thought I would make an FAQ comment since I have seen several of similar questions so I thought I would compile all my answers into one place for easy access 1. "What was your badge load out for this" A: The set up was 1 Power Plus. and 1 Mega Rush but I did use a Power Rush in the OG TTYD footage and obviously Power Bounce 2. "What happens if you do this in the Doopliss fight 1?" A: Same thing as the original, he acts like nothing happened and copies into Mario at 10 HP to not sequence break this scene 3. "Does he life mushroom again?" A: I do not know for certain but given the fact the Life Mushroom was added to stop a sequence break and other sequence skips (like getting the keys early in Chapter 8 were fixed) I'd imagine he keeps doing it until Vivian shows up 4. "Wait Doopliss copies your outfit now?" A: YES AND I LOVE THAT DETAIL SO MUCH. He also does it in the chapter 8 fight which is SOOOO COOL :D 5. "Can you guess his name early" A: No, much like the original, you can't say his name until AFTER you get Vivian

another interesting detail is in the original ttyd, when Doopliss transformed into Shadow Mario there was a Mario Surprised "Whoa!" Noise you could clearly hear, that's gone in the remake. alongside the "Wawawawawa+Mario hp reaches 0 noise" that occurred when Doopliss knocked out Mario, that only occurs in the original as well, but in the remake its actually completely Silent when Mario's knocked out

Idk, I feel like it's more lore accurate but definitely less enjoyable, because mario has a harder time emoting and being understood by the player, which was a separation between how the characters and the player perceived mario, I always thought that was a cool feeling.

After the switch (there's a joke there somewhere?) when Doopliss is talking through Mario, it's Kevin Afghani's voice, which is close enough for partners who've known him less than a week, but Peach or Bowser would probably be able to tell the difference.

Doopliss decides to throw game mechanics out the window; he doesn't visually have that life shroom, and he DOESN'T use it if you wait for Vivian to show up. Normally there's no way to not use a life shroom if you have one. Now I'm wondering if something similar happens if you one shot the shadow queen before she transforms.

basically the exact same thing that happens in the original happens, Doopliss goes into the "transform into Shadow Mario" Phase and revives with 10 hp(no lifeshroom, it plays out exactly like the original does, where it shows him having 10 hp after transforming)

I thought Vivian joined you BEFORE this fight. You have to flee after failing to guess his name, then meet Vivian as a shadow, then go back to the steeple, then learn his name and get the “p,” then guess his name and then fight him here.

When you reach this fight, Vivian is in your party, but leaves as soon as Dooplis reveals that it's Mario she's working with. Then she comes back two turns later.

@@someperson7491 The heroes can use those because they spent the coins to buy it, here, Doopliss just pulls it out of his ass and destroys your satisfaction of one-blowing him. Also, Nintendo cheated us by making it to where we can only get 8 of those Whacka Bump things, meaning we not only lose an easy way to farm coins, we also make the mistake of not using them to get the rest of the recipes. But then again, none of my first playthroughs are perfect, so I’ll remember next time.

What happens if you one-shot him in the first encounter? Before he copies Mario? In the OG when his HP goes to 0 he doesn't die and the copy scene still happens like normal, then he has 10 HP after that. What happens in the remake?

It is the same as it is in the original, it will just skip to the Shadow Mario phase and revive him with 10 HP and he transforms like normal (no special animation, plays out like normal besides his HP going from 0 to 10)
