Surprised the linux calculators didn't corrupt themselves when you calculated it and the reddit post about someone asking to fix it is filled with passive agressive replies saying 'you shouldn't be playing around with the tan function if you don't know how it works.' followed by them confidently suggesting a fix that doesn't even work

I think it does some sort of conversion from degrees to radians, which results in a number that is close to pi/2, but not quite and that inaccurate number is what the tangent is calculated for.

Some of them take the angle in radians rather than degrees, and deg*(pi/180) is the formula to convert degrees to radians. I could have also just put pi/2, but I wanted to actually put the number 90 because this video has "90 degrees" in the title.

Explanation of why there is no tangent of (π/2)*k (k belongs to all integers): sin 90° is 1, cos 90° is 0, And since the tangent is the ratio of the sine to the cosine, then it turns out that 1 will be divisible by zero, which in the end gives infinity, if we stipulate that zero is 1 pp∞ (part per infinity).

@@World_of_OSes The result is about 16 quadrillion because of floating point precision. Computers can compute decimal places as it rounds to the quadrillionths. This is as high as it can go. According to wolfram alpha, The result is complex infinity or ∞̃. Because the sine of 90 is 1 and the cosine of 90 is 0, According to the rules of trigonometric functions, the tangent of x is equal to the sine of x divided by the cosine of x. So this means the deviation of 90 is similar to the sine of 90 divided by the cosine of 90 _(why does Grammarly give me this engagement suggestion?)_, which says tan(90) = sin(90)/cos(90), which equals 1/0, which equals complex infinity or ∞̃. 90° rotation is a right angle, so Here's what ChatGPT says when I ask why tangent 90 is undefined: _As an AI language model, I can tell you that the tangent of an angle is defined as the ratio of the length of the opposite side to the length of the adjacent side of a right-angled triangle. In a right triangle, the side adjacent to a 90-degree angle has zero length. Therefore, division by zero occurs when calculating the tangent of 90 degrees. @@World_of_OSes I think D is for decimal I think so that's why it says D+16 instead of E+16

the answer should really be 16,331,239,353,195,370 instead of undefined
@0LoneTech
@0LoneTech 10 ай бұрын
Incorrect. That number is given by calculators that cannot represent a quarter turn (π/2 radians) exactly, so round the angle to slightly too small. The answer is undefined because of division by zero; it can't even be accurately represented by an IEEE 754 infinity, because those have a sign. Most calculators have limited precision like this; Qalculate is among the few that accurately reports the distinction between exact and approximate results, and handle angles symbolically.
