It is not against the law to fly over prison above restricted zone. I have just been approved to fly over a prison. You have to do a custom unlock request (not a geo zone unlock request) with dji unlock on your pc, not on app, giving them the reason, the height, route and reason, you also upload evidence to show you can fly over by providing the flight restriction limits which are surface to 164ft. The reason PJ wasn't allowed was because he didn't do a custom unlock
@ronprince14782 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jason for the information. The question remains, why do you need permission to NOT break the law or any aviation regulations?
@kaotic3452 жыл бұрын
@@ronprince1478 we shouldn't need to but because of the increase in drone use to drop off drugs and contraband into prison grounds, Dji has put security measures in place to reduce the problem.
@macsmith62162 жыл бұрын
If it wasn’t a restricted area you wouldn’t have to ask for permission All restrictions are in the DJI map All airports, military, and prisons are listed on it
@kaotic3452 жыл бұрын
@@macsmith6216 thats what ron prince is saying, it isn't restricted airspace above prison if your flying above 164ft. Its only Dji who won't let you fly above the restricted area by default. If you bought a drone of a different brand say (autel) you would be able to fly over without asking autel for permission. Check out for yourself by using an airspace app, drone assist or air maps etc.. You can select the restricted area and you will get the information about the air restriction. By air law the flight restriction zone above a prison is from surface level up to 164ft, so if your flying above 164ft you are allowed to fly over the restricted area.

I presume I can fly over the prison, as I don't use an app. I use the handheld transmitter that it came with. It's a Hubsan 501s, but I have installed the extended antenna which is redundant now they bought the drone laws in. You have to keep it in sight where before you could go out of view and monitored the drone on the on screen display. Some users would piggyback the batteries and travel 15min flight time away and then fly back ! Cheers for the info 73's Andy M6APJ

I'm pretty sure that DJI restricted zones range from ground level up. I've tried flying under the stub of an airfield runway extension where outside the ATZ the stub starts at 1000' AGL and it won't let me. I've tried this at several airfields so I reckon it's just a blanket ban by DJI.

PJ, never take off or land on a metal car roof, or any other metal object as the metal will interfere with the drones GPS system and it’s possible to get flyaways as the drone may not know its accurate location. This happened to a relative a few years back, and the drone almost went for a swim. Luckily a safe landing was made about five foot from the rivers edge.

Restricted areas frustrate me as its never clear where they are. Have you tried National Trust land.
