I have tried applying indigo without using henna first. It gives hair first a deep darl blue which sort of looks like black. After 1 or 2 days it looks like black. If you have black hair and want to cover grey hair then gi ahead and apply indigo directly without henna treatment. I always follow this process and it works fine for me.

@@fathimakn5333 Take the required quantity of organic indigo into a ceramic/glass bowl. Add boiling water and mix well. Cover it and keep aside for exactly 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, start applying to hair. Cover all your hair with this paste. Cover head with shower cap and leave it for 2 hrs. After that rinse with water. Donot apply shampoo or oil. Your hair will become dry after indigo application. After 2 days you can slightly oil your hair and wash with mild shampoo. If you oil regularly color migth fade away fast. Shampoo also takes away the black color. Using natural shampoo helps to maintain color for longer duration. However color stays on for 2 to 3 weeks only. Henna's color sticks on to your hair for longer duration than Indigo color.

If you haven't used dye or color, then ensure indigo is original and not expired one. I used Indumathy Indigo powder available in super markets in Kerala

You need to leave on longer or do multiple times to build up color. To get a deep color I used to leave on for 3 hours. Try using red raj.

You have to leave it on for three to four hours then after you do both of it doesn’t come out the way you want it you can do the indigo just by itself for another four hours then you will have a nice black color.

It's not an issue to use indigo without henna because indigo has the properties to make hair blue or darken the original hair color.

My natural hair colour is now white. I developed an allergy to PPD so had to let it grey naturally. I really don’t like it and it definitely doesn’t suit me. I was copper red since a teenager and the colour loves me as much as I love the colour. I was looking forward to trying henna, but having watched your video on how to dye hair copper, in which you touch on covering completely grey white hair, it does seem a rather complex and very time consuming process, especially when it comes doing roots. Using pure indigo alone will give you more of that blue-black tone, but you might want to consider doing a two-step henna and indigo process if you’re covering grays to avoid greenish tones. With multiple applications of indigo, you’ll see the blue-black tone intensify. For a strong blue-black, you can apply indigo more frequently (every 2-4 weeks) until you reach the depth of color you want.

Hello. Color results can vary depending on your natural hair color or on how much grey hair you have. The lighter the hair and the more greys you have, will pull the most red (sometimes even an orange). Therefore sometimes, repeated applications are necessary to get better color and yes, you may do so.

@hennasooq i mixed half henna and indigo as your instructions but both times i only see the henna tint. Some minor change in tone of the greys but they are still visible. Henna mix kept overnight and indigo half hour before applying and yet no change. I left for 3hour both times. Helppp. Is anyone else having the same issue.

Hello. We don't recommend sitting it overnight, once dye release has been achieved for 3-4 hours (or depending on the henna that you used) , you may need to use it immediately. I have both your henna and indigo but my hair is still not as brown/almost black as I wish from yrs of just mainly henna’ing. So there’s still lots of red in it. So yeah, do I really need to do the 2 step process or should I skip the henna part? The reason I’m asking is cuz often everyone says the indigo must be applied within 72 hrs of henna, so if my hair has ‘old henna’ in it ie not freshly applied, but still red from it from weeks ago, can I just apply the indigo ? I feel like all the extra henna’ing is what is making it stay red despite the 2 step process with proper times etc. Hope this makes sense. Thank you. :)

If it is natural henna and indigo then the smell with just smell like herbs! If the smell bothers you, you can add essential oils! I prefer Sweet Orange EO and Rosemary EO in my henna recipes

Kind of the same for me. It covers my greys but my roots are always red, tips black. The my hair grows and the roots are grey again in 2 weeks. So now I have grey, red and black. I thought about applying indigo twice. It's such a long process though.

@@mostiff In my experience the indigo washes out in two weeks based on daily washing or washing the hair evry other day. And I use a two step process for greys no other way to get the cover . I ditched the indigo for pure red . Only I don’t like the orange fade after 4-6 weeks not pretty against black hair . But I don’t see a natural alternative other than leaving the white hair white.
