I was working a high security job when I was young. I got arrested. I told the supervisors. They basically couldn’t have cared less. If I got convicted, that would have been a different story, but I walked. A few years later, I was hired for a job that was even more high security. They were very concerned about the arrest, until they were convinced that I wasn’t convicted.

Question - why do arrests still show on one's record even if they're never charged for the crime by a court? Seems as though if a prosecutor decides not to prosecute then the arrest should automatically fall-off the record. Otherwise police can just arrest people knowing full-well that they'll never be charged because the arrest will still affect them. Doesn't seem right, almost like a retaliatory action.

I was in removal proceedings due got pulled out from greyhound bus . I entered US without inspection in 2000 so I was able to apply for AED in 2010 then got it and was able to work legally for 12 years however in April 2022 I received notice from immigration judge that my case was dismissed without prejudice is why I wasn’t able then to keep renewing my AED. I married twice with us citizens however the first one was violent and threatened to hur me finally left me and the kids I got full custody of our two children then the second wife she didn’t like my first marriage children so she would act hostile and violent ,we had a child which she has him no court order for custody she decided to keep him because she doesn’t like my kids and because she said I am ilegal in USA and doesn’t like to involve with mi and my kids so now I am looking for jobs based on my previous work experience and I found an employer that is willing to give me sponsorship if I get hired however I am in the process of interviews with engineers and HRS.can I be able to obtain the green card if employer decides to give me an Offert letter?

My husband is sitting in jail 4 months now. Case is almost 100% going to be dismissed. It has cost him payment from an lni claim. Potential earnings had he been released to work again. Any compensation in WA state? Pierce Co. In particular.

My county has discontinued any bail charge, except for very serious charges. Basically, almost everyone walks, and the DA has labeled the program a huge success!!

@Bryan stone: That does not sound like a Washington State term. In civill law, only some people have the right to sue somebody. A father might be able to sue for injuries to his child, but a neighbor would not have standing to sue on behalf of that same child. You may want to find an attorney in the state in question. Your criminal record will also shown at the embassy when you apply for a visa

@@kemangraya2382 He or she doesn't have a criminal record if the case was dismissed, though, right? Or are you talking about the arrest (if there was an arrest)? This is the part I wonder about, too. I was arrested once in my life and never charged (which is annoying - if you aren't charged then why does the arrest still show? That shouldn't ever be the case but I digress). I wonder if border agents can see the arrest even though I was never charged.

In the US, if you’re arrested and even if your case is dismissed, it will still appear on your RAP sheet (criminal records) until you have it expunged (if eligible depending on the state, waiting period, and circumstances of the crime). For example Texas is a tough on crime state…. Don’t ever get arrested there.

That just....seems wrong. I mean, wrong in regard to our system, not any replies here. That seems like a great way for cops to really screw with somebody. They arrest you knowing full-well that you probably won't ever be charged or they might not even hand it over to the prosecutor. Having the arrest linger on your record when a prosecutor feels there is no case just seems wacky. And I don't get why prior arrests should matter to police, that seems to be the first thing they ask. They'll see it soon enough when they run your ID. I don't get why having a prior arrest causes them to treat anyone differently. That seems wrong, too. I don't know, man, maybe i'm missing something here.

@@avestuart the cops might or might not know the outcome of the case, in all honesty they probably don’t care. It’s usually the prosecutor that wants you convicted because that’s what gets them up the ladder. But yeah… the cops could have arrested the wrong person but that person will still carry that arrest on their record (not necessarily a conviction; that makes things a million times worse, especially for a felony charge). It is what it is….

So a conviction or just a court case is there for life which seems like a double panishment to me?In Europe when courts write on their webside a case,they show only the initials of every party name due to personal prodection laws?

For the most part, due to private companies that collect and sell data, it is very hard to keep things invisible in Washington State. In some cases, you can clear official records, but we have found that private companies do not delete the data they collect and sell. Background check companies for example. If your arrest was printed in a newspaper, it’s a public record. Maybe you didn’t watch the video. The gentleman said it would probably have zero consequences. My case is proof of that. I wrote about it elsewhere.
