Might be good to point out that in this scenario when you are ready to deploy to go straight to the reserve handle, no reason to track down a cutaway main.

Or to curl your reserve ripcord up in a pigtail. This often happens with RSL deployments (happened to mine) and the ripcord must then be replaced.

I had my cutaway handle dislodged while doing a tight exit on a big way skydive. It came completely out while I was tracking away. Instant reserve when I deployed the main.

In this case, if someone pulls the cut away handle by accident during exit ( nothing happens ), during free fall skydiver should go straight to pull reserve handle ? Since main will go away due to cable being pulled ?

yes

Yes. If your main is not out, theres nothing to cutaway. You just go straight to reserve.

Nice video .. thank you for the great info .. i'm a new skydiver with B license and 54 jumps. Already had one reserve ride on my first jump with an A license (wild line twist, spinning on my back). everything worked out great. With reference to your given scenario in the video, what would be the best thing to do after than happens ... since no one has ever mentioned it.. in my mind, i would just deploy the reserve and save my main from flying away... yes?? No ?? .. lol Thanx again.

You are correct. If you realize that your cutaway handle has been pulled or missing (I saw a video where a guy was handed his own cutaway handle because it was pulled accidentally) you can just go right to reserve when it's time to deploy. That will save you needing to find your main and freebag. However, if you're not aware of it, or brainlock, you can still go to your main. It will deploy and then immediately leave as it's not longer attached, and if your RSL is attached the department main will pull the reserve pin for you (you should still be ready to pull your reserve). In short, in this situation going to both main and reserve will work. Going to reserve would be more convinient, but the most important thing is to PULL SOMETHING :)

Damn had to cut away on your first solo jump? That must’ve been terrifying
@way2far2fly Жыл бұрын
@@jamescarrot2813 not really terrifying .. but did get the blood flowing .. lol .. and i got right on the next load as per the recommend of many people around me at the time.. and the next jump was totally awesome.. then .. after "buying the beer" .. i went back to my hotel room and had a proper cry .. hahahaha .. joke of course.

Dear Javelin Odyssey owners. A word of caution if you want to COMPLETELY pull out your cutaway (yellow) cables to clean and lubricate them: they won't be easy to put back in. For the most part I will pull mine out far enough to disengage the 3-rings in order to flex the riser webbing but that's far enough.

Must be really weird if you never notice your cutaway was pulled. You go deploy your main, look up and see your reserve above you. WTH?

Hi and thanks for your helpful explenations. When the main is accidentally pulled out in the plane e.g.: what would you then do? Still jump out?

Please stay off my plane.

What if i direct pull my cut awey only no main and no reserve handle will my reserve Diployed without pulling reserve handle
@shadeland3 жыл бұрын
If you pull your cutaway in freefall, without having thrown your main deployment pilot chute or pulling your reserve ripcord, nothing will happen. In this case, you would normally go right to reserve. If you deployed your main, the main would leave immediately upon inflation (there's nothing to hold it to your rig). If you have your RSL attached, it will deploy your reserve. With no RSL, nothing will happen until you deploy your reserve with the reserve ripcord.

The skyhook will beat you every time. Meaning your reserve will deploy before you pull the reserve handle. Or am I wrong..?
@shadeland3 жыл бұрын
The skyhook will beat you if you cutaway a deployed parachute. We're talking about what happens when you (accidentally) pull your cutaway cable before you deploy the main.

Long stort short, if the bag is not out theres nothing to cut away.

Hi! I have a question what will happen in such a scenario: i cant deploy my main (ex. chute in tow) then i cut away and open reserve, reserve opens up and somehow makes the main to finally start up as well. Main is cut away already but will it be still attached because of RSL?
@SOLDOZER3 ай бұрын
You dont do a cutaway for chute in tow. Theres nothing to cut away. You go straight to reserve.
