Does alarms work on echo dot without wifi? I read somewhere it does but we have to turn it off manually by plugging it off ( and that’s okay for me). Someone please reply? And also can i add multiple alarms like 6:00, 6:15, 6:30 etc? (Heavy sleeper😅)
@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
You can add multiple alarms Ashna, and they are stored locally. No WiFi required.

will Echo (4th generation) still run routines without wifi or internet if connected directly to zigbee devices ?

Good day, im a new owner of echo dot. but now my wifi are dead and unfortunately i still didnt set up my echo dot to my alexa app. can i still use echo dot for a simple bluetooth speaker? i mean just bluetooth connection to my phone to my echo dot. and how many times do i need to connect my echo dot to my alexa app? is it everytime i will use it with my internet connected to my phone and echo dot?
@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
You're gonna need WiFi for it to respond I believe. You can try saying Alexa, turn on Bluetooth, but I think you'll find it answers right away and says it can't. Try it though!
@loganfisher31383 жыл бұрын
Amazon should look into allowing all Echo devices to communicate with an Echo Plus or Show via their Sidewalk Bluetooth communication standard if the internet goes out. This would mean you would only need one Echo Plus or Show, granting a massive amount of new utility to other Echo devices without Zigbee - particularly the Echo Show 5 and Flex, which both fulfill use cases that the Echo Plus and Show are ill-suited for.

I'm betting you're just speaking the future here Logan :)

You can still stream to devices within your own network even if you lose connectivity with the web.

Great video. What about automations running on a Zigbee enabled Echo device? Will a connected Zigbee sensor be able to turn on a zigbee light if the internet is down? And what about timed automations on any of these devices?
@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
Hey! So, the Wait command can be used with Alexa but it never seems to work quite right with delaying automations like lighting. However, your ZigBee question can be achieved with almost every zigbee hub out there. Automated things that are supposed to happen at time X will usually still happen. The real question is if you can do it by voice, and that answer is no. Not yet.
@DIYtechie4 жыл бұрын
Automate Your Life Does that mean that a motion sensor connected to an Echo plus via Zigbee will not be able to turn on a Zigbee bulb if the internet is down? Do you need to use a wait command for that?

Have you looked at what happens with the Hubitat hub? It is a device that uses local control for operating light switches, light bulbs, locks, sockets etc. locally and it has an Amazon Echo app. It would be interesting to know if Echo would operate locally via Hubitat without an internet connection. My guess would be that it wouldn't because all of Alexa's "brains" are remote and not local, but it, at least, might be a step toward localizing the Echo when it comes to voice operation of devices.
@AutomateYourLife5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I've looked at Hubitat. It's a good little local control hub for sure. :) Do you have it?
@somemovingpictures5 жыл бұрын
@@AutomateYourLife Just barely starting. Not in place and working as yet. I bought it mainly for control of Lutron Caseta switches and plugs. I quickly discovered that it needs a "pro" version of the Lutron bridge in order to communicate using Telnet. I ordered that and only received it yesterday. Cross your fingers.

wow thanks! this is very useful! I have an echo plus in the living room I'm going to try and connect it to all the lights locally ... yesterday when alexa went down I couldn't switch the lights I needed (of course I'm not going to look for the mechanical switches I'm not an animal :D) so I had to wait :D .. this local control is very interesting !
@TheHigherSpace5 жыл бұрын
Ok I have the option "local voice control" enabled in the settings (always been enabled) but when the devices wasn't online (happened before) when I tried to turn on / off lights it says "I'm not connected to the internet so i can't connect to X" ... I'm assuming there is another step I need to do to connect echo directly to the lights ?
@AutomateYourLife5 жыл бұрын
There really shouldn't be anything extra for you to do. Are you directly connected through the ZigBee hub? It could be the switch vs the bulb...so I'd maybe try that. I can't test it directly for you because I'm not in the US :)
@AutomateYourLife5 жыл бұрын
Oh...here it is. Yep! So, get a ZigBee device and connect it as a new device. Don't use another hub at all!

Alexa echo dot stops playing music when recording on Snapchat. i am connected to it through bluetooth and not wifi. how can i fix this?
@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
That means that your WiFi is nearing being overloaded. You actually need better WiFi. It's not about having great coverage as much as it is being able to handle all the devices streaming. Watch this video and you'll get an idea of just how much this can change with the right router or system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHvOcoVnmpZ6psU
@crazycoinbox60784 жыл бұрын
What I what to do is setup a alexa on a router with wifi. this router will connect to things to turn on or off lights play music from a flash drive. I would like to put these items on a timer. You don't need the internet as long as you use a router to connect to the items within a routine.
@AutomateYourLife4 жыл бұрын
Most voice commands require access to the cloud. It's a bit difficult to do much without that, but there are some local functions now capable. Perhaps you'd share your setup cause it sounds like you're doing more than I'd expect.

@@AutomateYourLife my main issue with Alexa is it's programed to spy on you and at some point will go haywire on you. I plan on using a Raspberry pi to control my remote setup. How? I am still researching it. Linux OS takes a little bit to learn on your own. There are some youtube builds for remote raspberry pi systems. My system will run on 2, 12v batteries that will be charged via ac power.
