Ive always thought it wouldve been cool if Brand landed on edmunds planet and found people were already there setting up a colony and preparing for the space stations
@Sarom33513 күн бұрын
that's an interesting take but how would humans already be there? Edmund had no embryos with him to populate the habitable planet.
@gangstalker546113 күн бұрын
@ it would be the “current” humans after the 51 years lost from the black hole. If they are planning to send these space stations through the wormhole, it would make sense to have some people go through in the meantime and start setting up
@Young_DabКүн бұрын
@@gangstalker5461 I don't quite understand. Who are the current humans? Dr. Edmund lands on the planet and sends back a positive signal indicating its habitability. However, the only people capable of reaching him are only the main characters. At the end of the movie, the character Brand arrives on Edmunds' planet to establish the first human colony. No one on Earth/Cooper station is aware that Edmunds planet is habitable until Cooper leaves the tesseract and sees Murph when she's an old woman. Plus there was a lack of resources and funding due to the blight. Cooper and Dr. Brand mission was most likely the last ship to enter the wormhole.
@gangstalker5461Күн бұрын
@ why would they not send a mission back through the wormhole? I mean the fact that the entire human race lives in space would make NASA funding a bit more acceptable i think. The space stations are at Saturn already, which means they definitely planned on going through the wormhole even before Cooper showed up. So they wouldve had to send a probing mission at the very least

Time Dilation doesn't affect the observer, it would appear that the whole universe experiences a faster motion of time while your perspective would remain the same. Edmund would not have "lost" any time, if he experienced the effects of time dilation everything else (to his relative perspective) would age while he remained the same age. The same way Cooper stayed young while Murphy aged, since he was in close proximity to the black hole and not Murphy.

@Paradox-k5d21 сағат бұрын
That was excellent commentary. Thank you for your explanation of Edmonds Planet. I took issue with the ending (time dilation and relativity). Dr. Brand tells Cooper that time is relative and can stretch and squeeze, but it can't run backwards. He also says that gravity is the only thing that can move across dimensions, like time. For example, Cooper and his crew spend about 3 hours and 17 minutes on Miller's planet, but 23 years, 4 months, and 8 days pass for Romily. Cooper is left in space for approximately 51 years due to the extreme time dilation near the black hole Gargantua, meaning that while he experiences only a short time, decades pass on Earth. Now, how many years would it take Cooper to find out the brand on Edmonds Planet? 80 years or more? Now if Doctor Brand goes into some sort of cryo sleep. All Cooper has to do is awaken her when he gets there. Murphy on a bedside did comment I believe. Doctor Brand was settling in for the long nap, which probably means a cryo sleep.

Coop and Brand likely did not experience the same time dilation. While they spent a similar period orbiting Gargantua, Coop crossed the event horizon. According to some, he would have descended toward the singularity for infinity while appearing to die almost immediately to the outside observer (see Brian Greene, Janna Levin). Of course, by a flight of fancy, Coop does not die, but is instead transported to the tesseract. Even so, his journey would have involved significant additional time dilation. Hence, Brand should have arrived at Edmunds' planet long before Cooper arrived at the orbital station. While I love the speculative and fantastic elements of this film, including its ending, this one aspect that made it difficult to suspend my disbelief (and perhaps one of the reasons why Nolan did not unify Coop and Brand onscreen).
@Sarom33517 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment DrDoohickey. you are correct that Coop should have lost way more time than Brand, but for the purpose of Coop reuniting with his daughter Nolan made it so that he lost about the same time but I think your lack of suspension of disbelief for this scene is definitely fair!
@DrDoohickey16 күн бұрын
@@Sarom335 I completely agree. The affecting humanity of the film, together with the scientific grounding and more fantastic elements, is what makes this such a wonderful film. I'd argue that the best sci-fi must have all those elements.

I just wonder how humans were able to survive in the first place to eventually develop technology to influence the past. I guess plan B worked the first go-around, they evolved, and they built the tesseract to then go for plan A and save the rest of humanity. What a great story. It’s a gamble though. Changing the past creates a different present and future. But if you’re motivated by love, you’ll go for it.
@Sarom33518 күн бұрын
yeah either plan B worked or humans on space stations crossed over the wormhole and landed on Edmund's before evolving. One interesting aspect of stories like this is how did it all begin? Time paradoxes like this one cannot be explained because going back in time to save your species as a fifth dimen species means that the same was done for you in the past. The beginning of the loop cannot be explained lol

Have you considered the fact that sling shot manoeuvres around a black hole would never achieve a hyperbolic orbital? It’s just not science. The manoeuvres by the voyagers depended upon the speed of the planetary orbit. So doing a manoeuvre around a Star or gravitational centre of any kind won’t release the ship beyond its gravitational influence.
