He's a threat to rationality. When one listens carefully to every theist, *none of them knows a god exists.* To know requires evidence. Nobody has evidence. For example a common argument Turek makes is the Moral Argument, but that contains logical errors, like just saying (without evidence) that (a) objective moral values exist and (b) if they exist they're best (or only) explained by a god existing. Bad logic isn't evidence, so the fact that each of Turek's arguments makes mistakes like those means none of those arguments are evidence, which means nobody knows a god exists, which means nobody should believe. So when people ignore those problems to spread the idea anyway, that's why I'm saying it's a threat to rationality. Because no matter how carefully you listen to others, you'll never hear logical evidence of a god, and that makes it irrational to believe.

Our duty as Christians isn’t to try to not be offensive. People take offense where none is given and the very nature of the gospel is offensive; "all are sinners unworthy of God, deserving of His wrath, but God in His mercy because of His grace sent Jesus to die and pay the penalty for our sin so that we could be forgiven and was raised to life again for our justification and that those who believe shall be raised with Him". Sometimes offense is necessary in preaching the gospel like when Jesus called the pharasees a brood of vipers. Our focus when preaching the gospel is yielding to the fruit of the Spirit and yielding to the demonstrations of God's power.

When we die, we dont instantly go to the afterlife, but we wait untill the day of judgement. To those waiting, it will be like a blink of an eye, death and day of judgement, it will feel like it was the same day, because to god, time is relative. So in a way, the theif next to jesus will feel like he was in heaven the same day of his death.

Not true. When we die we are with the Lord, but without physical bodies. Paul knows this, which is why he states that he would rather die to be with God, but lives to serve others. That statement is amazing, but wouldn't make sense if he wouldn't have been with God that instant. Our brothers and sisters who passed on are with God, waiting on the second coming the same way that we are, for our new, perfect physical bodies.

Completely agree. The idea that human souls automatically have an eternal state comes out of Greek philosophy, specifically Plato. We do not have in our beings the source of eternal life, that is only found in Jesus. When we trust Him as our King and obey His commands, then He graciously give His eternal life to us. Ecclesiastes 3:11b says “He (God) has put eternity into man's heart.” John 5:24 says “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” And to those who are not obedient to the King’s commands…Acts 13:46 after Paul and Barnabas’s gospel message was rejected by the Jews in Antioch they said this “And Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying, ‘It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it aside and judge yourselves unworthy of eternal life, behold, we are turning to the Gentiles.’”

When Frank Turek posed the question; "Where does evil come from?", Christopher Hitchens immediately said; "Religion!". Over 60,000 perished in Lisbon Earthquake on the 1/11/1755. That date was also All Saints Day, so those that perished because of fire started from lit candles were busy celebrating and commemorating the "good" work of the lord. The Crusades, the Reconquista, the thirty years war, the hundred years war, the Catholic/Protestanic conflict, persecution and execution of the Japanese Christian, periodic persecution of the Jews. The Church hiding and protecting their peodophilic ministers, the proselytising, the preaching to disaster struck survivors that salvation and punishment is imminent. Where does evil come from? The sick, weak, scared, ignorant and superstitious...Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe.

If you want to destroy something, the best way to do it is from within.... If you believe that there is no creator and no afterlife. I don't disagree that there were horrible atrocities done in the name of religion. However, Hitchens answer was incomplete at best, and a flippant remark make for applause at worst. I almost have to assume it was the latter, as he was an intelligent man and I presume he studied history. . You can sum up the total number of dead given in all your examples, and I can compare that against those the dead under Stalin (follower of Karl Marx, the atheist famous for saying "religion is the opiate of the masses"), Hitler (a deranged lunatic, let's not believe for one second his Catholic upbringing led him to display any resemblance of Christian teaching), Mao (grew up Buddhist, but left that in his teens), and Pol Pot (a mish-mash of Eastern religions he rarely mentioned). The comparison isn't even a meaningful contest. Yes, I admit people bearing the name of the Christian religion slaughtered millions. Atheist/Anti-Christians slaughtered hundreds of millions. We can increase that to billions if we add in the Mongol horde and the Roman Empire.... all of which had "gods" in their society but their leaders were not particularly "religious" in any way. They were humanists and rationalists who saw themselves as better than others because they were stronger, so they killed and took what they want. . In contrast, Christianity teaches (and true Christians practice) that all men are made in the image of God, and therefore none of us is better than another. Christianity is the only religion that spread peacefully across the known Western world for the first 3 centuries of its existence. Then yes, sadly a large portion of the church got interested in power when Constantine made it the official religion of the Empire. Those in power then used it as a tool to their own ends and millions suffered and died as a result. . So I would ask Mr. Hitchens to show me the non-religious, atheist moral leaders of the 20th century who paved the way for a better tomorrow. Again, I can confidently say he was just going for cheap laughs, because he dismissed the deaths of over 7 million Jews, 20-40 million Russians, and 70-120 million Chinese... all at the hands of secular atheists.

It is the opium of the people." You may assume or presume a remark is flippant and for an effect. That doesn't assume or presume it is so, just as assuming or presuming Hitlers upbringing can be overlooked, or Mao Se Tung's or Pol Pots. What we know happens to us when we lead a secular life, is that we live without absent divine instruction and intervention. What happens to us when we die is what happened to us before we were born.

If you read the Bible, and believe what it says, you would find the state of the dead is clearly explained. The living know they will die but the dead know nothing. They are sleeping awaiting Jesus second coming. Check it out for yourself, don’t rely on others to tell you what the Bible says, and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you in your study. You will find the truth if you are truly looking for it.

Where they belive when one dies; they go either to Hell of Heaven. Based on there "deeds', Bad or Good, etc! But for the last 17 yrs; I don't believe that any more! For ALL (from Adam and Eve) MUST stand before Jesus on "Judgment Day"; to see, IF we are going to Hell or Heaven. Oh yes. Thus, I now believe that when ANY one that dies, (EXCEPT Moses); they stay IN the grave; until Jesus resurrects us, of the Born Again's. And the NON Born Again's stay in their graves for 1,000 yrs, in... Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they (Born Again's) shall be children of God and of Christ, and shall be with Him a thousand years. But remember this Brethren...2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years (On Earth) is one day (In Heaven). So, the Non Born Again's stay in their graves for literal 1,000 yrs; waiting for the 2nd Resurrection. But we are ONLY one Day in Heaven. with Jesus. Praise His Holy Name. When we die, we are not going to heaven right away. We all have to wait for the final judgment. No one was judged yet so no one is in heaven yet. When we die, our soul sleeps in a chamber below earth. Lazarus' soul was sleeping in a chamber below earth and then Jesus recalled Lazarus' soul back to his body because Jesus can.

Frank you are wrong on this, the bible teaches when you die it’s like a sleep, and when Christ comes you will rise and meet the lord in the air, then ever to be with the lord. There are many texts in the bible that say death is like a sleep. Then when Christ comes in the clouds the dead will rise first, then those that are alive shall be changed in a moment and meet the lord in the air.

Lazarus was a planned resurrection. He was fully dead in physiological terms but raised by Jesus to make a point! Which is the ultimate point of the entire Bible. That Christ has power over death! A guy in the Bible once asked… “When the (so called foretold ) Messiah comes, will He be able to perform miracles greater than this?” That guy was in the crowd witnessing these miraculous acts. He was smart enough to apply human wisdom to the obvious. We’re always trying to confirm truth by what makes sense to our finite field of vision. Truth is …. YOU (humans) don’t make sense! You are a biological entity that can live to 120 years with a heart that can beat for 119 1/2 years without stopping for more than 10 minutes and not be connected to an external power source. Being constantly rejuvenated by food sleep and a little exercise. That’s it as far as power source! Your cells renew themselves with absolutely no assistance from your efforts. You get two sets of teeth, one for you as a child and the other for as long as you take care of them. Both exist for the primary function of crushing fuel (food) to be converted into energy. The other to attract the chicks so you can make other biological entities. (Lol). And display happiness. Also you are supplied with a measure of liquid that carries all kinds of stuff throughout the entire body to preform a multitude of tasks that we still haven’t fully figured out. Don’t even mention respiratory. A function that depends on this external provision called AIR. Now tell me… How does all of this make SENSE? SENSE is restricted to the possibilities of that which it observes! 90% of our every day existence doesn’t make SENSE! True Christ/God believers know and are satisfied with the fact that sense/facts/ evidence will never provide the most intelligent human with the true and exhaustive answers to the thing we call life on earth. It’s a mystery! We hate that. Sense matters in the things that are revealed. The secret things belong to God alone! Make sense of this…. The greatest “God figure” out of all other god figures throughout history is who? Jesus Christ The Lord! Name another god figure that… Split history (BC-AD) Was not bound by earthly restrictions- (Walked on water, pulled a coin out of a fish’s mouth on demand just to make a point) Summoned a teem of fishes caught by professional fishermen that worked those same waters for years and knew when the fish weren’t biting just to make a point to a small group of men. ON DEMAND! Spit on dirt and put it on a blind man’s eyes and restored sight to the blind. Calmed storms, walked on water. On demand! Sure, there’s a lot of “god figure” stories all over the world but….. What does Muhammad do? What about Buddah? Pick a deity, anyone you like, And tell me what he DOES!!! Compare them to the story of Jesus. Point for point. Who’s acts weigh more when you put them on the scale? Who is The King of God figures? Out of all god figures? Use the writings of common man and show me who is superior to what we’ve heard about Jesus! None even attempt to. Because they don’t exist. We made up those gods! We don’t even have the capacity to make up a God figure like Jesus!

You go to Sheol first to wait with the saints or the sinners in their own part of it. That's where the entire Paradise (Spring of Water) and Perdition (Gehenna) comes from. Paradise (Spring of Water) is where Moses and the saints are at while Perdition (Gehenna) is where Cain and others that did evil might go. When the day of judgment comes is when we stand for final judgment. If you were in Paradise (Spring of Water) then you are going to get into heaven and if you were in Perdition (Gehenna) you will be going to hell. That's according to Jewish theology from when Jesus ministered. Two other chambers I didn't mention were the one for the moderately moral will get a reward and the victims of murder will get justice for what happened to them.

It is evident that Jesus used Gehenna as representative of utter destruction resulting from adverse judgment by God, hence with no resurrection to life as a soul being possible.

The Germanic religion here comes in handy: The AllFather is also the Father of the fallen, because He holds the fallen ones. Who lived a life of dedication to the Father is sent to Valhalla, literally "halls of the dead". The hall in which the fallen are sent depends upon the life of the fallen. In the times of the final battle between good and evil, the son of the AllFather, Baldr, meaning "shiny", will come back and suffering will end. The fallen ones will also come back, and a new world will be created. Notice: the Father becomes a person, in this religion. He carves the judgement for the nations, and He goes back to the Heaven, before the final battle. While Baldr is killed by a blind one who is deceived by Loki, the great deceiver. Source: the old Norse manuscripts, in their original language. It is basically the same thing as the bible and the biblical revelation.

Well, you are presenting that man has something called a soul. I refute that with Gen 2:7 God formed man from the dust of the ground (body) and breathed into him the breath of life (spirit) and man became a living soul. (person - unique experiences thoughts and beliefs). Man doesn't have a soul, he is a soul. When he dies the body returns to the ground and the spirit returns to God. You are no more. BUT, at the resurrection you can either obtain eternal life if you believe in the gift of Jesus or you can perish and be consumed by the fire when the earth is renovated.

When we die, the body perishes, but our souls go to be with the Lord. Just as Jesus said to the thief on the cross "Today you will dine with me in paradise." Indicating that there's another life after death. Martha didn't understand having never experienced death before. Jesus simply assured her brother would rise again(resurrected) when his soul is reunited with his new body. We're not in some comatosed state after death lol

Also, paradise refers to the new earth, not the spirit realm. Also, Jesus didn't go to heaven during the 3 days he was dead (as far as we can tell). Yes, I agree. Luke 23:43 is the go to example. But as you have pointed out if you move the comma, the meaning changes. There was not any punctuation at all in the original Greek manuscripts, which is why we should go to other verses, like 1 Thes. 4:16-18, and have the Bible explain itself.

That people live on at death was a lie perpetrated by Satan (Genesis 3:4). God of course, made clear that death causes a person to cease to exist (Genesis 3:19). Lazarus was a resuscitation? His brain and body cells were in a purification mode. These had to be restored by God to bring him back into existence.
