@jamiemcgarry64144 жыл бұрын
Kidney and or liver failure is *not* by any means a common outcome for professional bodybuilders. For those unfortunate enough to have such drastic outcomes, yea I'd say death is one form of retirement. But going bald is reversible and testicular atrophy doesnt even need to happen at all and most likely doesnt with professional bodybuilders. The completely safe drug called HCG, or human chorionic gonadotropin, completely reverses such atrophy as well as maintains fertility while on exogenous testosterone.

Great topic, very interesting and a reality check for folks who are pushing themselves and their health. All of those fellas who had to drop out for health reasons are lucky to be able to tell the tale. We all know about the guys who didn't get the opportunity to make changes and live new lives. What's a little shocking to me is the ones who have dropped competitive bodybuilding but also appear to have dropped fitness completely. I guess maybe it speaks to two things; first it goes to show that bodybuilding has nothing to do with health and fitness and second it maybe speaks of the minds of competitive athletes. Are these people so competitive that they have an all or nothing mindset? Can they not workout to simply stay fit and healthy? It's kinda crazy but entirely believable to me because we humans are strange frickin' animals. Terrific video Nick! ...........................PEACE!!

Great topic to cover Nick. I think of all the sports bodybuilding must be one of the hardest to come out of when it's time to retire. All that sacrifice and identifying with your body has to change as you are no longer competing. And as it's at a much younger age than say the average worker who retires after age 60, retirement must be pretty daunting for a bodybuilder too. Some have been successful in marketing supplements, running gyms under their names where I know for so many it must be a struggle. I think Dorian Yates has made one of the most successful, if not most interesting retirements with his focus turning towards meditation, yoga and functional fitness. Thanks for sharing.

I am glad I just use the words "workout exercise routine" but still do it every day at 75 years old. Walk, bend, stretch every day AND still lift weights 3 times a week with lower weights BUT higher reps. Could lift heavy STILL but NO THANKS to that...no drinking or smoking for years and try to still eat properly...5' 9" tall, 208lbs...KEEP LIFTING AND EXERCISING OUT THERE to all who still love to "LIVE" a little longer in their life.....MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR for 2020 KIDDIES!!!!

Seems like Bob Paris (from your The Most Aesthetic Athlete in Bodybuilding History video) should be on this list since he seems to have slimmed down significantly from his competition days and remained fit into his late 50s.

Was 5'11 at 230 in my hey day but never used steroids and ate healthy and now I'm going on 55 and still weigh in at 220, the only reason I lost some weight is due to an injury that sidelined me for a year.

Nike Happy New Year always love your videos, started lifting weights at 16 back in 75 and competed in bodybuilding in Canada in the early 80's My Ex-wife and I both competed and placed in the top 3 in the 85 Canadian couples competition. Keep up the great work, Cheers

Dorian Yates, Lee haney, Shawn Ray yeah taking it back late 80's early 90's.. In 1995 Yates was the quest poser at a competition I did in Rochester NY. SO HUGE. I got the pleasure to meet and be in the pump up area trading dumbbells with him.

Any bodybuilder who took less gear and more hardwork early in his life, will retain most of his physique. Natural muscle lasts longer. Lifetime.
@thegriffinsden33836 жыл бұрын
Sorry muscle is muscle there isnt steroid muscle... if you did a biopsy you would only see identical muscle. Steroids just allow you to go past your natural limit if you take enough. But once you stop taking them you will go back to your natural limit based on your hormonal levels. The cases you see where you think they lost all there roid muscle is actually true about anyone that stops working out and eats like shit. Muscle is only lost due to hormone levels or nutrition. Someone under weight or extreme case of muscle atrophy could benefit from steroids the under weight person could be brought up to his healthy weight in muscle mass fast and then be takin off the steroids and he would not lose any of his gains as long as he ate enough.

Any gains via 'roids would be very quickly lost when coming off the 'roids. There is no keeping the gains.

@@thegriffinsden3383 Gains made on the juice are impossible to keep without it...and no one can keep the juice going all their life unless they want to die early. Naturally gained muscle though less impressive can better stand the test of time. Even if one cant keep 100 percent of gains during the later years...around 70 or 80 percent can definitely be maintained for a lifetime
@stevewez31366 жыл бұрын
Not for everyone. I don’t take gear but lose my mass muscles with 3 months if I don’t workout at all. Depends on genetics as well I guess
