Piper has gotten so big but she still has that sweet face. I’m glad that her & Cheeto get along so well! And also they get along great with the cats(unless you interrupt their toilet time, lol). We have a mama raccoon and 4 kits that visit our porch each night in search of birdseed. There’s a runt in the bunch who’s not afraid of anything. I have been leaving them pecans, bananas and chicken. We are moving soon and I don’t want them to become dependent or to get in trouble with the people who live here next, so I have to be careful not to over indulge them. They have brought me so much joy as we just lost our dog. There’s also a mama skunk and she has 4 babies also. They show up earlier in the evening. Sometimes a loan skunk will meander by while the baby raccoons are around, but they seem to live in harmony. Animals are so amazing.

@@oddlling haha.. yes, I misspelled the word intended! Whichever baby lone skunk it was “ loaned” us a beautiful memory and perspective on how the animal kingdom can live in harmony. We have since purchased a home on the other side of town and have no shortage of visitors. We have a small bathtub sized pond which I have witnessed a skunk swimming from one side to the other. Last month at 4 am I heard squabbling through the open window, I sleep just below..and thought it might be two skunks fighting, as they can be nasty. I yelled out “ hey you guys! No fighting please!” The hedges shook and two little foxes emerged. They looked through the dark directly at me through the two story window before taking off!

my goodness. those raccoons are so calm compared to the pair i had raised. mine loved to eat cheese balls and you had to raccoon proof EVERYTHING. They are so cute but are the most mischievous little devils i ever had. one of them opened my chest of drawers, climbed up the back, found a bottle of blue glitter, and busted it everywhere. they are a lot of work!

Loved it! This is such a wonderful rare opportunity to understand raccoons. Very curious, they notice and examine everything. Persistent, try to open things and come back to challenges. Very social! There is a need for each other. They like crawl spaces I noticed. Crawl spaces is something I seldom see rehabbers provide. Most common I see is hammocks in crate cages. Wonder if your guys prefer hammocks vs under the couch? I go with under the couch.

Are raccoons like cats about using a cat box? They seem very similar, maybe a bit less rambunctious but, very cool to see them tame. We have wild ones that visit. They eat dog food and grapes, and really love the bucket of water. The second generation are much more social and allow us to pet them. I kinda feel honored that they trust me.

I've seen raccoons used as security animals in New England. I've been told they're about as effective as dogs, but that if you have both watchdogs and watchraccoons you shouldn't ever have a problem. Admittedly this is from people who never feel the need to lock their doors.
