Let’s not lose sight that the 101’s are lofted stronger than the 301’s, so that coupled with a lighter weight shaft will contribute to more distance. The 101’s really suited Pete’s slower swing speed helping him optimize each shot.

Yeah, exactly. Theres so much talk about different clubs for different level players but it’s all nonsense. They are just tools. Go with what’s comfortable basically. A good player can play well with any clubs.

with Petes slow swing speed and inconsistency in his strikes, he was always going to hit the lighter forgiving clubs better. I know it's not possible but a better test would have been the same shafts in both sets and only the club heads being different.

My first clubs were Ben Hogan blades, found them great off the tee but hard work from 7iron onwards. Pete played so well, no pressure on him.

Game improvement feel better on miss hits, but actually drop more distance from off centre strikes due to their hotness from the middle only. Forgivness is just feel and good marketing.

Well done Pete, some great golf.....it seems to me blades work if you are a consistently good ball striker, therefore it’s likely that a mid handicap player would be better served with more forgiving clubs...( that’s also me by the way)

Pete would probably get along well with the 101T’s or maybe even the 201’s. Either with the light shafts would work.

It's largely the shafts, with a little assist from the loft differences. Quite possible Pete would benefit from a mixed set with the 301s at 9-PW-gap, and the 101s for his 5-6-7-8s with same shafts in all.

I've had blades , muscle back and cavity back clubs . Blades I used last year when I was playing off 11 my thoughts are you need to middle it every time to get the full affect and also have a higher ball speed to get the correct distance. Pete being a senior could play with a bladed club but on a lighter shaft. My preference would be muscle back irons more forgiving and at the end of the day you want to compete and make the game easier 💪🏻💚

I'm not sure the putts should count as for or against either club. Reaching the same place (green) in the same number of strokes , aiming for the pin from a set distance, etc. These might be a more appropriate test. Having said that, well done,Pete for connecting with them. Not easy if you're used to cavity backs.. 👍

Ben Hogan forged blades with senior flex graphite shafts for me, never liked cavity backed clubs, dead, dull, lifeless feel. Nothing beats the feel of forged blades, I'm almost 70 playing of single digits.

Yes a mid handicap player can get away with blades however they are not likely to ever reduce their handicap with them as smaller sweet spot, smaller face and harder to hit. If you want ti improve your game go cavity back with steel shafts.
