@@crosisofborg5524 that's why you have one bike for normal riding, which is your baby. You protect it at all costs, take really good care of it, and make it absolutely perfect. Then you get something cheap, and that's your "send" bike for mountain biking. Crash it and wrap the frame around a tree like a Sherman's Necktie? F it who cares. Rip all the good parts off, and another frame for $50 off Craigslist. As long as she's got the lowest three gears, maybe lowest five if your local trails have some faster sections, stops when you want it to stop, turns when you want it to turn, and rolls over bumps basically at all, the that's all you really need. There are plenty of good routes to explore in most places. The thing to remember is that, yes you are a road vehicle, but you can legally go to the same places as a horse. So an os map showing Brisleways is ideal Sunday afternoon exploration tools. You might want to check out the Midland mountain bike orienteering site. I have seen plenty of cyclocross bikes on these events. As for pump tracks. They are great. The local council out a cement version in to my local park, as well as skate ramps. The best 140k they spent. It is always being used. A great way to get kids and middle ages men, into their bikes.
