It amazes me how these guys still include sampling as part of their workflow. How many unreleased joints out there because of uncleared samples? Imma catch hate for this, but I think it's lazy writing. I wonder how many of these dudes can make a decent beat by writing out every part. It's so much easier to just thrown on a sample, loop it, and build your song from whatever progressions are already there.

@@KevinTheCardigan eh idk, I think sampling is still an art in itself. You looking at it too black and white, I think it’s a stylistic thing. If a producer is known for sampling however you can discern their sampling style and at that their producing style, I’d say they’re worthy of their producer title. It depends on how it’s done tbh, most big rap producers are really good at it tho and don’t have an over reliance, I mainly see that with underground producers

(I'm not a lawyer) I think Donna Summer, as the recording vocalist, only has copyright control over the specific recording of "Could it be Magic" that Metro was using. The production credits for the instruments and stuff belongs to the producers Barry Manilow (and also Giorgio and Bellonte for the Donna Summer instrumental but they're not listed for some reason). If metro only recreates the production of the Donna Summer's "Could it be Magic", he only has to get permission from the producers and not Donna herself. Outside of Drake, Gunna, and Metro, P Power's credits only list Barry Manilow as a songwriter.
