I've actually witnessed how dreams begin a few times. The best way I can describe it is that my brain falls in some sort of subconscious state where I'm imaging these *thoughts* or *images* (like random shapes or whatever) as if I was going through my memories and it all seems normal and natural whilst I'm falling asleep. However, I've had this process interrupted a few times where I've *snapped out of it* and instantaneously forgot what I was seeing and couldn't remember what it was in the same way as we can never remember the beginning of our dreams. I am convinced that this is how everyone's dreams formulate

Yet research shows later morning starts for teenagers and later end of day aids concentration and focus and the reverse is for junior kids where early starts work better and early finishes. So lets start school at almost the same time as every adult needs to start work. I wonder if any country would consider changes to work days and school hours depending on Winter-Summer. Since living near the equator means similar daylight/night hours- does sleep research show it works better as citizens are seeing darkness and daylight at the same time

Yeah I think that's what happens to me too! and then sometimes during that in between stage, I'll "wake up" or just become fully aware of my surroundings again. Many biological processes happen during sleep: The brain stores new information and gets rid of toxic waste. Nerve cells communicate and reorganize, which supports healthy brain function. The body repairs cells, restores energy, and releases molecules like hormones and proteins.

I am 68 y.o. I have never slept more than 4 or 5 hours a night my whole life. I am in great shape. One reason maybe because I learned, at a very early age, to control my dreams. As a small child I suffered from terribly, horribly bad dreams. My mother would yell at me for screaming in the night and tell me to stop screaming and waking her up. I started to play the dream over in my mind. Asking, how do I change it? What can I do to stop it from scaring me? How can I be my own hero? As I lay there thinking what to do, I would fall asleep again and then change the dream. It took several weeks or months before I could control my dreams without waking up, but I can still do it even today.

I had something similar when I was younger, I had a dream I wanted to continue so I decided to just fall back asleep. Turns out I accidentally chained 5 dreams in a row, all continuing where the previous one left off, turning it into a whole series. My father was concerned because I apparently had been asleep for 15 hours! Whoops!

You usually do wake up sometimes but only for like 1-2 minutes and since you'd be so tired, you wouldn't remember it. You probably went through that, but remembered it.

Anyone ever had a bout of sleep paralysis during a day nap? I was riding in the back of a car with some friends and apparently fell asleep but immediately woke up only to find myself paralyzed. I freaked out because I couldn't feel myself breathing and felt like I was dying-which of course was just a panic attack. I remember my eyes were open too but that was all I could move. When it wore off (within about 20 seconds) I took a huge breath and everyone turned around with a confused look haha.

I have. It's extremely terrifying, especially when you're alone. I usually try to yell out for help but my voice is never heard. I usually only get that when I'm extremely tired and have bad dreams which makes it worse since my eyes are the only thing I can move and I have to force them open to avoid falling asleep again. No one else in my family has apparently had it either which concerns me since my parents think I'm crazy when I describe it lol

When sleep paralysis happened to me i felt like some one was sitting on top of my chest. I tried to move my hands but I couldn't and after some time when I came back to normal stage I couldn't talk properly I was struggling to speak and was stuttering.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you could search for explanations online of the two phenomena sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations and show them to your family, might help with their understanding.

You have to be living in a place where you can actually get a solid 6-7 hours of sleep without constant disruption. Personally for me, it has been so difficult for so long, due to being forced to live with others from being financially abused. These individuals constantly disrupt me, and cause other problems.

I can still see how my consciousness literally goes into this transition into a memory or just like all of these colors (that are used for hypnosis), I can see in my own brain as I fall asleep.
