Wrestling with God doesn’t sound smart until we understand what it means. Jacob’s life story leading up to the time he wrestled with an angel, actually teaches us how to understand our own wrestling experiences more clearly.
Jacob was the 2nd born twin, right behind his brother Esau. Their mother Rebekah was told by God that the older son would serve the younger. In those days that was backwards! The older always held the position of highest favor. This message from God began Jacob’s life of wrestling.
Jacob’s whole life was confrontational, beginning with Esau. These issues led him to leave his home for twenty years, during which issues and provoking never ceased. These troubles led him to journey home even though he had no idea if he would be welcomed back.
