Dollar tree in the US has tons of different loose pigment eyeshadows that are literally exactly the same as mica (it is mica and some other things,) and you get a LOT more than you do when you buy "normal" mica. It's been so fun to experiment cheaply lol! FYI: crushing it up finely is super important if you use the potted stuff.

I'm glad I found your videos along with a few other great channels so I was able to start off with a respirator and lots of other good stuff I need. I just used both mica and eyeshadow in my pour today for a succulent. I also put in foil glitters and tried to keep it somewhat translucent to see the glitters through the resin. Can't wait to unmold tomorrow! The hardest part, waiting!!

I've been using eye shadow for a few years. Makeup is nothing but powdered pigment aka mica powder, and other ingredients mixed to liquid state or compressed cakes. I use powdered eye shadow for tinting resin, and use the cake pallets to use w. Small brushes for detail coloring. Works like a charm everytime.

My daughter is a makeup fiend, and she recently gave me a stack of makeup palettes from which she had used up the colors she liked and didn't want the rest. Some of them are actually fairly expensive palettes, known for being highly pigmented, so I'm looking forward to trying them in resin as well as in my regular acrylic pouring medium. Thanks for the heads up about this option! :) Blessings!

A small mortar and pestle can help crush things like eyeshadow if anyone plans on using it often for craft applications. Porcelain or stainless would be a good choice for ease of cleaning. Also, the vibrancy of color will vary by brand. Some of the cheap eyeshadows don’t have the same quality of pigmentation as better types. (Eyeshadow usually has a base of kaolin clay , talc, or mica. The mica versions are probably best for use with resin since they are less likely to react strangely)

I use eyeshadow in both resin and acrylic pours. The key is using a pestle and mortar to grind it up into a fine powder. So, a couple minutes of grinding and it takes care of clumping.

Eye shadow and mica are the same but eye shadow is pressed into those little containers by machine. Sometimes you can find loose eyeshadow on little things like mica. You can also use blush if you find a color you want at the dollar store. Sometimes they have great shades of pink. It also works great.

He has done a whole series of experiments on using various household items as pigments for resin...Some with great sucess and others have been epic failures.... With the eyeshadow, he used a mortar and pestle to crush it to a fine enough powder so that is dispersed properly through the resin with no lumps...

I've very recently begun working with UV resin, and while I already a bunch of supplies that work with it I've wanted a lot of supplemental supplies for things like coloring resin. I've seen alcohol inks working beautifully, but I'm disabled and don't work, so every penny is important, you know? After thinking for a bit I remembered seeing people make alcohol inks from permanent markers. I have a BUNCH OF of those... I like to buy them when I find them on sale. So, I broke down a few pens and put them into some alcohol I had on hand. Turns out they work beautifully!! I even put them into little nail polish bottles leftover from my nail art blogging days... They're not perfect, but they definitely work! Next I'm going to experiment with making metallic inks and glitter inks... Hopefully it works!

Hi. As far as I am aware, a lot of eyeshadows are made with mica powders. But what I love about these is what happens as you finish pouring them in, is with the mica powder you get rings at the top of the mould as you finish pouring them in, but with the eyeshadow I couldn’t see any which is perfect when you want a nice smooth colour on a finished piece. I also love how you get so many shades of colours ranging from light, dark, pastels, metallics etc. And the best bit is when you have them in Pound shops, they are great to pick up & save over a few months & gift to your resin crafter at Christmas. Also when you by these multipacks, inevitably there will be colours you don’t like the look of when you wear them, so instead of chucking them out or leaving them to pile up thinking 💭 “So in so where’s some of these, I’ll give them to them when I next see them” & they get shoved to the back of a cupboard etc & you forget to pass them on. So this is a great way to use up the left over colours in your eyeshadow tray. Or a family or friends.
