남집사도 재택근무를 하기 시작했어요!

They all hang on my porch and share my cat's food now. I don't mean they take it from him. They wait patiently and he saves some for them. I don't know what to do about this other than buy more food.

I lost one of my two cats about 9 months ago. I don't mean "lost" I mean she died. My dear Lady Jane. I was going to get another but my Greykin is SOOOO enjoying being an "only cat", so much extra attention. So I take out my yearnings by volunteering at the local animal rescue. I go once a week for a couple of hours, walk a dog, play with a cat, keep them socialized. Oh, and recently I bought those tiny bow ties and ties people make, so the animals can wear them for the adoption pictures ... Although first I have to try them all out on Greykin!

I had a cat that looked just like this one, but with soft green eyes and the fluffiest fur known to man. he was the complete opposite, personality wise, being very sweet and sleepy. so sleepy, that on the day we adopted him, I got scared, because he went missing. it turned out that he had fallen asleep in the couch. his name was Luna, I named him that, because I loved the word, and we thought he was a girl. we found out he was a boy after getting him fixed. I have many calming memories of the cat, and this video brought them back to me. :)

I know it seems cute when they're kittens, but I suggest not teaching kittens that hands are toys, and instead getting him some real toys. When they learn hand=toy you're more likely to have issues like this, and when he gets older, those bites and bunny-kicks are gonna hurt a lot more. Not trying to be rude. Sincere advice.

I have scars from all the cats I’ve played with the last 57 years. I wouldn’t trade them for anything; the memories of getting up close and purrsonal with them are very special. It never seemed to matter whether they had toys or not. You can’t play and be afraid of scratches or bites. Learn to not pull away. Just my .02.

But I think physically bonding with your cat using your hands should/could happen during the other 99% of the time you're not playing -- petting, cuddling, rubbing their cheeks & forehead, giving chin scratchies, grooming, holding, etc. Personally, I'm far from afraid of pain, and have endured plenty of scratches & bites from what must be near a dozen cats over the years. The pain of a bunny kick or scratches from an adult cat to its owner is not actually the real reason I'd say it's important to avoid using hands as toys; it's just the reason I give to inexperienced kitten owners. If anything, a selfish incentive tends to motivate people. I'd also consider family and visitors who may be subjected to seemingly "random" cat attacks from cats with play aggression who are bored/understimulated, because they might not handle it in stride like the owner will. But really, when you think about it, the purpose of play for a cat is an outlet for their natural hunting instinct. This is especially important if they are confined to indoors. They really want to feel feathers and fur in their mouth. They want the satisfaction of having stalked something, successfully caught it, bit down on its neck, and being able to confidently present their fresh kill to you as a gift/trophy. In that sense, I feel hands don't really cut it. It doesn't satisfy their natural instincts the same way a toy that better mimics prey will, and wiggling your hand around just doesn't provide the same mental stimulation they need. Of course, toys need not be expensive. It could be as simple as a feather you found in your backyard tied to an old shoelace and the cat will go nuts over it. Part of the benefit of interactive toys is bonding for both human and cat, and the cat gets some desired attention. But I think hands used as toys just don't offer the same level of exercise/energy outlet, mental stimulation, and satisfaction of their carnal urges as hunters... unless maybe your arms are 6 feet long like Stretch Armstrong and you have feathers for fingernails lol. When I was a kid, I used to use my hands like toys, fluttering my fingers around over the cat's head, scratching the corner of a paper bag to mimic the sound of a mouse and letting the cat pounce on my hand from inside the bag, even intentionally moving my toes under the blanket to let my cat attack my feet. Sure, I got scratched up plenty of times and taken off guard by random ankle ambushes from under the dining room table. But as I got older I realized this common theme of cats who scratched and bit their owners and visitors happened primarily when cats didn't get enough play/attention to work out their energy and hunting needs. Once I started playing with them with real toys and consistently every day, all those problematic behaviors, whining and unprovoked ambushes stopped. When my cat wants to play he brings me to the toy he wants. There's this one wand toy called "Da Bird" that has a long wand and the feather attachment swivels in such a way that when it flies through the air it makes a sound like a bird flapping its wings. You should see the joy and excitement in his eyes when he sees and hears that toy. Sometimes he will grab a feather toy out of my hand and run away with it in his mouth like he thinks its a real bird lol. I just see how even one good toy can enrich their lives so much. But I also see a noticeable correlation between owners who complain of "behavior problems" and those who don't play with their cats enough or don't give them suitable toys. When they associate human hands with love, affection, and food, instead of killing and attacking, I think this also makes handling your cat in any other situation when it may be necessary easier as well. Toys don't have to mean a lack of interaction with your cat. If anything, they should increase it. My cat cuddles with me every night, climbs on top of me while I'm sleeping, wraps his tail around my arm when I pet him. He even jumps on my shoulder to sit there like a parrot 🦜haha

You obviously know not only how to play with cats, but how to love them as well. I wish there were more hoo-mans like you. Given that I professed all that experience I did a very poor job of letting anyone in on my experiences with cats. Fortunately you filled in the blanks and then some. I never had an “attack cat”, though some loved to play one. Sometimes it was a fuzzy handmade toy by Grandma, often it was wads of paper and tape, but usually it was something on the end of some string. And sometimes my cats would want me to hide, and then surprise them and run and jump on the bed. They would follow and this is when they would let their inner tiger out. We wrestle, “vicious “ biting and clawing, and then they fly off the bed to hide… and I hide… and we start again. It felt different then playing with them with a toy. Maybe it’s a mark of insanity on my part, but I felt like we were communing in some way. When we tired, we plopped on the floor, they’d give me a good cat bath and I’d scratch them in their favorite places. It was… dare I say… like we were both cats. Yes, commit me to an asylum.
