Tavares is another player we never needed but decided to give 11mil to. If it were my decision I’d get rid of Tavares and Morgan Riley as any forward can quarterback the power play so we can make room for defenders that are defensive minded.

It actually caused me to dump the Leafs as my team due to Burke continuing to trade all Leaf picks, including 2 unprotected. I was sitting in my car when the news broke down and I nearly lost it. I swore to never like the Leafs again, and justifiably so. How did Burke ever get another job after that debacle.

In the Fall of 2018 Burke said Let Nylander sit on his ass at home, because when he would come back the Leafs would still own his rights. At that time Carolina offered Slavin or Pesci for Nylander but Dubas folded and now Burke says they need to keep Marner. When Dubas upped Nylander, that prevented the Leafs from getting a Simmons type player at the 2019 Deadline(plus the first yr of that contract Nylander was paid $10 mill for his 7 goals & 54 points). In the end Dubas along with Shanahan didn’t have a clue how to build a team when there were plenty of templates they could have used “That Worked”.

I love the leafs. But a big change is needed. They’re the only team that thinks that out scoring the opponent will win a cup. And you can’t win that way. It’s been the same story since this core came together. I know he’s a hometown kid but I’d say goodbye to Mitch Marner. He’s an exceptional talent but he disappears in the playoffs. He seems too scared to get dirty and grind it out on when it matters. He’s a UFA after next season but I’d try to get something for him before he leaves for nothing. The leafs need a more solid defence and Marner value in the market could help bring that type of player here.

I can’t disagree more. I think keeping Nylander is the worst mistake for the Leafs. Guy is a classic disappearing act. Matthew’s is the future
