I remember seeing this lockers footage of Matthews and Marner on their phones and checking out their stocks on their trading apps, laughing. This was during the COVID pandemic when plenty of people were losing jobs. These are two manchildren who began playing with big money before being mentally mature and they have a very faint idea of what it is to fight to earn something because they were superstars and millionaires before achieving anything. A bunch of years ago they brought in Tavares assuming he would be the leader for this team. Well, that was a big miscalculation. Tavares is a good guy I'm sure but he couldn't be leader by producing less than these two, and he wasn't quite old enough or didn't have the resume to stand up to them and straigthen them out. It's not Matthews or Marner or Nylander or even Tavares who is the problem, it's the guy who built this team through his puppet GMs. Shanahan has to go. He is the one who engineered this core.

@mikeoshea12Ай бұрын
I thought the peripheral players for Toronto played pretty well. Matthews checked out when he didn't get goal 70. I don't think he sees the value in winning in playoffs, when he is rewarded for goals in regular season. Nylander just plays his game and if it goes his way then great, if it doesn't don't expect any hard work or sacrifice. I actually sort of like that about him. His comments on the bench show he has no patience for criticism or stress during the game. Marner is a spoiled soft kid, and a waste of money. Tavares is probably the worst captain in the NHL. I'm not a Leaf fan, that's just how I see it.

That's the problem with being "right fucking there." is that it prevents you from making changes that are needed. They've been "right fucking there" for 8 years now, and made it out of the 1st round exactly 1 time. That means they failed to get out of the 1st round 7 times. That is not being right there. How many teams have we seen not enter a rebuild because they were still technically "there." when in actuality they weren't. The Rangers were techincally still there when they did their rebuild a few years ago, cos they constantly made the Playoffs more of the time, but they never made it beyond the 1st or 2nd round and they eventually said "We're not doing this again, we aren't good enough." and went into a small rebuild instead of sticking with it.

Where does the money come from if 4 forwards are making most of the cap...
@TheFlamingPikeАй бұрын
In order to do that, they need to trade/get rid of one of their top 4 stars. Otherwise there is no cap space for anyone new who is already established in the NHL, cause they will ask for a big contract, or will carry a big contract with them if they are traded to Toronto. Toronto can only count on draft picks and bottom line players who can't really make much of a difference. They tied their own hands by signing those four players long term. They had the opportunity of making a blockbuster trade not long ago on a few occasions. Clearly, it wasn't a move they even considered. This means it's not the GMs who are at fault, but the guy hiring the GMs. Brendan Shanahan, who designed this team and maintained this "core" of players since his arrival..
@timdowney6721Ай бұрын

According to the individual stats, there is good production, even from Mitch. Of course, games arent played on paper. Nylander comes up clutch. Auston found ways to contribute even when he wasnt feeling well. Mitch has 11 G, 39 A... 50 P in 57 G. I have also heard that he does a bunch of the little things right. Its just that he doesnt come up clutch as a scorer, and its quite noticeable when he could have shot the puck for a good scoring chance but passed it instead breaking up the opportunity. I personally put more blame on Sheldon Keefe going with Samsonov and watching him fail hard and not putting in Woll when it was obvious even to the hand who never stepped on the ice that there needed to be a change of goalie. Now, Samsonov did play well in Game 7, but it's also been said that goalies need to be able to steal games and he definitely did not steal any game in this series.

It must efn suck to play in Toronto with all the media scrutiny. No wonder people like Ryan O'Reily are happier else where.

Give the ''C'' to Pappy.....Tavares should pass it on and take an ''A'' in his last year !!!....It will change the whole atmosphere....He's been Captain long enough !!!

Leadership. He’s not throwing his teammates under the bus.

Keefe is the longest standing interim coach after replacing Babcock. I think the Leafs will find a permanent replacement. Shanahan is also easily at risk. Tavares and Marner have one year left in their contracts, regardless of their no-trade clauses, dangle enough money to them and they will move. Especially since most teams would love to take on talented players who only have one year left in their contracts, and then be able to negotiate with them based on how well they do on their team.

I think he is right - I think the problem is the way try to play. Give them an coach that knows how to build defense - like Cassidy and I think this years team hade been an X factor against the the cup

Soo much scrutiny in Toronto, suck it up you babies, your team made the playoffs and gave you a riveting series, my team is golfing AGAIN! People act like it's easy to do!
@BalthazarMyrrh70Ай бұрын
Did your team just undergo the most expensive rebuild in NHL history?
@wavyamarАй бұрын
Man Nylander was absolutely 💯 right. 10mins left to redeem an entire franchise, end a curse 🤬 & possibly make it to at least the ECF. It was a lot of sub stories esp with Woll & Matthews but man call a timeout Keefe after the goal....
@TheFizzyGeeАй бұрын
Maybe they have a hankering for some tankering next year.
@paulderksen5852Ай бұрын
Well hes right they were right there, Mathews was sick Willy had problems then they loss Woll in the most important game, had all these things been different who knows....Plus Florida just found out how difficult it is to score on the Bruins on the pp, yeah i hope they do, do the same thing next year and just get a couple more things their way and win.....i like this team they battled hard nothing to be ashamed about. 👍💪😉💯💙❤️

Why didn’t they play Woll again in game 7 after he had such an outstanding game 6? Bad coaching move?

I thought the leafs were a much tougher team than in the past. I’m probably in the minority but I’m driving run it back with same roster. I haven’t heard anyone mention Samsonov on the OT goal. Puck was coming right towards him with Pasternak bearing down , he easily could’ve poke checked that puck away. He looked like he froze.
@strictlyroots7343Ай бұрын
They have to find a way to unload Tavares. Treliving will listen on Marner but won't get any good offers and Marner will be back, especially if they can move or buy out Tavares.
@purplepeavey7874Ай бұрын
Why do we ALWAYS have to make a series comeback ? Why do we ALWAYS have to chase the lead in the game ? That to me says a lot and that we just aren’t and may never be a good enough team to get close to or in the finals. 😢

Enough about the core 😁🇨🇦
@VantoxifyАй бұрын
keep Matthews and Nylander and scratch Tavares and Marner. As much as I love the core, it needs to change. Yes, Tavares was the one that broke the 20 year curse but he’s not doing enough. The same can be said for Marner. I love these guys and I want them to win but winning isn’t going to happen when there isn’t change
@Blake-jz5bhАй бұрын
Honestly i cant disagree with nylander here idk what but there is something more than the core stopping the team from getting the cup if it was we wouldve for sure found at least 1 with success but nothing since 1967 i find it hard to believe we havent found the right core since then its something bigger im telling you
@breezyoliveАй бұрын
Right there ????? The 2nd round or the Stanley cup ??????
@davesharpe2752Ай бұрын
Hate to see any of them leave. Tavares is getting older but along the boards and face offs he dominates. Coasting back for line changes drive me nuts.That extra step ahead of the other teams make the difference
@Pauli99123Ай бұрын
If I was a leaf fan I would pray that the management would get rid of guys like that. Useless in the playoffs, kills the whole mentality of the team if there are guys who are not willing to give their everything on the ice.
@johndondertman1502Ай бұрын
Don’t be surprised if we see the same top 4 forwards next year…. No reason to think the leafs will do anything different.. they always make bank.
@dr.strangelove7788Ай бұрын
I have no issue with what he said. G7 OT means teams were very evenly matched. Being equal to the Bruins is not too shabby.
