Thank you for some much needed clarity on the types of controllers. I did a 3×3 42" bezel less wall 2 years back. And it came out awesome problem was i was ignorent with using it as a single/multi display wall. And realized that the controller i bought only made one huge image. And just delt with it.. fast forward to today stubled accoss your video gem here and you clarified what i needed to do thank you....

Im confused on this subject if you can shed some light, I want to do trucking sim. With 3 tvs “not monitors” some videos say MST HUB some say VIDEO WALL CONTROLLER whats the difference??? Also Can you do this with just an HDMI SPLITTER ? Output to 3 monitors ??? Also what if the machine accept 1.4 and the mst is 1.2 will u run it to issues or you have to match it ???

No real difference between a monitor or TV when it comes to your trucking sim. I have a flight simulator and use 3 - 55" TVs. You will need a computer that has 3 video outputs. Get a desktop PC and add a dedicated video card. Almost all of the dedicated video cards have at least 3 outputs. With the dedicated outputs you can tell your computer that you have 3 dedicated screens and you want the image spanned/extended across them.

Great overview. What is the best way to display 4 different channels/sources/ sports using a multi viewer on a single tv if they are coming from different streaming apps? Assume all 4 inputs would need to be connected to an internet device such as 4 x fire sticks? Also I assume you can’t use the tvs inbuilt apps as 1 of the 4 displays within 4 screen multi viewer..?
@EdwinBonneau
@EdwinBonneau 2 ай бұрын
You are spot on. Using the TV's built in apps would take you away from the multiviwer input and leave you with just one big screen. Use 4 streaming media players like you said. Helpful tip is to use players that utilize rf or Bluetooth remotes so you can just label the remotes 1-4 and always be able to control which screen you want without accidentally controlling one of the others. Most media players use these types of remotes. Quick test is if it has a built in mic on the remote for voice control. Dead giveaway it's Bluetooth with that feature

I think I understand what your asking and the answer is yes. A windows based PC can easily span a single window across 2 screens or do 2 (or more) applications on any of the screens simultaneously. This is all dependent and the type of computer your running. I am only familiar with PC but Mac can probably do the same type of thing.

I use URC Total Control for my control setup. It requires a manufacturers certification to obtain the programming and ability to purchase the equipment. I use wand, style remotes as well as their mobile app for control of the system. To make the entire 110" screen touch screen, that could prove much more difficult. I have seen some virtual touch screen options that might give you that kind of control. prodisplay.com/touch-screens/interactive-overlays/infrared-touch-overlay/@@user-kd7hy9xq2j

I’ve been researching this for a while. Thanks for your input. My goal is to merge 4 x 4K 85 inch TVs into one huge picture. Would the 4 screen display in 8 k or 4 k. My input would be Apple TV or Roku I don’t need to split since each tv is connected to KZbin tv. I think I just need a multiviewer. Problem 2 when TVs are running separate. How do I separate each tv with corresponding remote. Ie I don’t want all TVs to change volume or channels when I select one of the 4 Samsung remotes.
@EdwinBonneau
@EdwinBonneau 6 ай бұрын
Ah the inherent challenges needed to overcome with video walls. If you have a video wall controller that can output 8k then yes you will see an 8k image. I can tell you right now that the 8k controller is likely way to expensive for most setups. A decent 4k output is realistically the best you're going to achieve. You will need to get TV's that use Bluetooth/RF remotes so that they can be assigned to each display and then label the remotes. I use a fancy control system and I control all my displays via IP or discrete IR through individual emitters on each display. Video walls are complicated setups and require a good knowledge of electronics to navigate effectively. You will have to have a video wall controller in order to make 4 separate TVs into 1 TV. No way around it unless you purchase a display that is designed to be a video wall display and in that case it will have the appropriate hardware built into it. These TVs are not available at Best Buy or any other box store.

What prompted you to use a multi-viewer instead of a matrix? I’m trying to figure this setup out for my basement and am having trouble planning it all out. Thanks!
@EdwinBonneau
@EdwinBonneau Күн бұрын
Matrix is different than a multiviewer. Most displays in your home are made up of just 1 TV and therefore only able to display one source at a time. A multiviewer is 1 source but can cram multiple sources into its single HDMI output giving you a split screen on a display which is only capable of displaying 1 HDMI source at a time. I save several TVs around the house and I wanted to see the split screen effect on any TV in the house so I used the multiviewer to do that. A matrix is a generic term but it involves combining multiple inputs with multiple outputs. For example, you could have a 4x4 matrix which is four sources and four displays. Any of the four sources can go to any of the four displays. I actually have in my house. A. 16x16 HDMI matrix. Amongst my 16 sources one of them is my multiviewer so I can route my multiviewer to any of the outputs. The reason I don't use it on my video wall displays individually is I used off the shelf TVs. When you do this you have to turn the top TVs upside down in order for them to fit together properly. The result is that the top two TVs obviously have inverted images. If I were to send my matrix individually to each of those TVs, all of those sources would be inverted. It's much easier to instead use a video wall controller so that your video wall instead just looks like one normal single source display instead of four TVs. It may seem like an unnecessary edition of equipment, but it is the most cost-effective way. Believe it or not.

I’m afraid I’m trying something that can’t be done. Working on a 6 tv wall 2 high and 3 across. Would like on game days to have 6 different games on 6 different screens. AND have the option for a four screen large game with two separate games on the last two screens. Will the combination of the wall controller and media splitter allow me to do that? Or will the media splitter only apply to a single screen?
@EdwinBonneau
@EdwinBonneau 10 ай бұрын
First, just about anything you can dream of is possible...just more $ and time is all it takes. What you are asking for is 100% doable. Depending upon your budget you might not get the results you are looking for exactly. With the correct video wall hardware all 6 displays could be organized exactly as you described without any problem at all. The appropriate hardware could easily set you back over 10k. You could instead group 4 of the displays to one "cheaper" video wall controller with multiviewer and then leave the other two displays out of that system altogether and just use them to run whatever app you want to use (KZbin TV, Netflix, etc). The 2x2 would be a true video wall (acting like 1 display)and the last 2 displays would just be regular TVs. The multiviewer would need to be connected directly to the 2x2 controller to break them back into 4 individual sources when desired and back to 1 big image. You would only need to address the top TV of the 2 independent TVs as it would likely have to be inverted to fit the wall appropriately and so the imaged would be upside down. You can find hardware to flip that image because it likely won't be supported on your TV itself although in some service menus there are options to flip the image. Hope that all makes sense.

I currently use this multiviewer www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KFNPTS7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 It has worked out pretty well but it is limited to a 4k 30Hz output. Other than that it has worked out. My video wall controller www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08K4Z4KSD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I won't recommend as it has a pretty significant limitation and I don't want anyone else running into the problem. This video wall controller will not splice if your using 4k. Again if you set the resolution to 4k then you can't adjust the individual monitors via "splicing" The splicing feature is disabled when you run it in 4k. This is really irritating and had I know this I would not have purchased it.

Hi so I was thinking of doing a 12 tv video wall and was just trying to figure out what I would need to get that to work. I have found a controller that supports 3x4 would I need multiple multiviewers to have multiple outputs for the 12 tvs?
@EdwinBonneau
@EdwinBonneau 8 ай бұрын
So you are getting pretty involved with that one. You are going to want a really nice multiviewer/controller. Short answer is yes you can chain several cheaper multiviewers together to create pretty complex source arrays (chopping up of the entire screen). You might not want to do that because now your dealing with lots of extra hardware and points of failure as well as a far more complex overall setup which only the installer will fully understand and be competent in usage. I would highly recommend a single multiviewer setup which will allow all the sources to be managed from one location and then split up across the screen accordingly. There are systems that combine both the video wall features with the multiviewer features. I haven't personally done large video walls like this but look at birddog.tv/videowall-overview/ Also the type of content your putting up their will limit what hardware you need. If it's live broadcast or copy protected content you will need a system that can handle all the HDCP stuff vs an advertising based display showing just a bunch of PC based stuff.

A Video Wall Controller makes 4 TV's into 1 usable screen. This has to happen first when combining multiple TV's together. After you have the 4 TV's acting as 1 screen with the Video Wall Controller then you need a multiviewer to split up sources (xbox, cable box etc..) across the big screen. You can skip the controller step if you use a projector instead for your big screen. But if you really want to do 4 TVs then you MUST have a video wall controller. The Video Wall (multiple TV's together) is a more complex setup and will require more patience and maintenance.

@EdwinBonneau
@EdwinBonneau 6 ай бұрын
You must get a video wall controller to flip those displays then. Unfortunately most consumer displays wont allow you to get into the service menu and "flip" the image. Commercial or video wall displays are designed with this feature embedded in the display but your TVs from the big box stores usually will not support that feature. Even if you find an article that claims to know how to get into the service menu, the manufactures often change firmware to eliminate the option on future sets. For this reason your best bet is to purchase a video wall controller which will allow you to invert/flip the image on the displays that you need to without the need to get into the service menu on the TV itself. It's one of the main features of a video wall controller. If you have a commercial display and cant get into the appropriate menu you will need to check with the manufacturer through their support team.

LED walls are an amazing solution and perfect for commercial use. Extremally bright and their modular design makes them easy to deploy and arrange in whatever design the project calls for. In my setup each of my video wall monitors is 1/4th of the 4k resolution. Combined as one display they come out to a single 4k display. Now there are a lot of nuances here. Each display has a native 4k resolution so each individual monitor is upscaling its incoming resolution to fill the entire 4k panel. In short my video wall controller is capable of accepting 4k signals and outputting a 4k signal but spread across 4 displays. Hope that answers your question.
