Boom! Spot on, problem is most of these guys will never get that due to years of indoctrination. Sadly because of a few “which is all they need” that’ve tried to communicate and work with these corporations, the rest of us suffer. Appreciate the work but I don’t need influencer having a say on legalities for the majority nor do I want them speaking on my behalf. These cooperations should ask individual weather you fly or not period.

For 107 you need a remote ID per registered device. It does suck there may be a couple months gap. The core operating system and hardware has not changed on DJI, but they had to wait to insure what their hardware was capable of doing, would meet the ever changing whims of the FAA before going public, I would assume. These rush to market changes can be dangerous with firmware, test you upgrades in detail before sending your older device on a mission. Every additional task being added takes more memory and processor then the older stuff was designed to run originally.

Thanks for that information. I'm always extra cautious on Firmware updates, and wait to see what everyone else experiences. Looks like I'll have my Dronetag assigned to my primary Mavic 2 Pro, and watch for that firmware update down the road.

My understanding of the situation, for what it's worth, is this: Come September, drones required to broadcast remote ID must do so, one way or another. An interesting case is the sub-250s like Mini 3 and Mini 3 pro. In the U.S. those are not required to broadcast remote ID if they are used exclusively recreationally, nor do they require FAA registration in that case. And in fact, again as I understand it, remote ID requires an FAA registration number as part of its data. DJI has implied that in the case where a sub-250 drone is indeed recreational-only, the user would not need to toggle on remote ID. But if they did turn it on, they could not turn it off again. Whether this will all actually be the case remains to be seen.

This is why you wait! For all you know something else could change or it could be DJI isn't telling us another important piece of the puzzle like you will need a DJI specific module for these older drones getting an RID update in August. Not saying that is the case but what channels all should be shouting is WAIT!!!

Lol! I usually wait quite a while on new tech. In the case of this I decided to get the module early as I was concerned about being able to continue my contracts. We've got several long term clients that expect service from us. I wanted to see how the units work ahead of September to make sure I didn't run into trouble.

Thanks for your reply. After reading through so many comments yesterday and this morning I think some folks didn't get my sense of humor or sarcasm. I'm not upset with DJI for adding older drones. But their timing was terrible, I wish I'd known about the Phantom 4 Pro and Mavic 2 Pro sooner. When I first read the post on a Discord server the other morning I had a "of course they added more drones" moment. LOL! In our case, we do drone work full time. Hi There.. I have the Mavic Pro 2 zoom with smart controller.. I just finished the firmware update after I set it back to factory defaults. This was a total nightmare. It took two days of research, nothing went smoothly, it was not intuitive and I had to go to many different videos to find the info I needed. I did get the ID installed, the drone working and I am a registered recreational drone pilot. I'm ready to fly again but man, why does it have to be this complicated?. Have a good day, friends..

If they had just listed each drone and indicated what, if any actions the owner had to take to become compliant, it would have only needed to be read once to understand. For instance: Mini 3 Pro - already compliant, no further action required. Magic xxxx - firmware upgrade xxxxx available December 31, 2023 insures compliance.

Thanks for this release. I don't fly my drone too often but I certainly want to be in FAA compliance at all times. I have the Mavic Air 2. I was reminded of the remote ID when I got an email from the FAA telling me that I was due for product registration renewal. I noticed that once a UAS is updated with the remote ID the Serial Number changes, and to a number that's about double in length. This must be for FAA's immediate recognition. I'm wondering with this (new) DJI firmware update if it'll also change the Serial Numbers. Also - will I need to go back in-to the FAA site and update the information for my drone, the SN, so that the FAA now has my account shown correctly? Thanks for anything you can provide. 👍🥂. P.S. To me - the need for remote ID is totally ridiculous, since the vast majority of our flying is in ‘uncontrolled airspace’. That’s like the ‘FEDs’ wanting to know, as see, what you’re doing in your house! B.S! Even if/when we fly in ‘controlled airspace’ we’re required to get authorization! To me - this is becoming too much government control over our lives! I’m also a Private Pilot so I understand ‘airspace’ very well!

I'm not sure what direction they'll take in the near future. And you pose some good questions, especially what the firmware update might change. We'll all need to keep a close watch on any further announcements. It gets frustrating sometimes trying to keep up with what compliance is now. I hope it wont become the ever moving target.
@stephensmith60

@@AZ-Drone Yes - the "moving target". Once they have you under their thumb, you're theirs! That's what the Feds. want (control). I wouldn't mind such control but we're talking 'uncontrolled airspace'. They have NO control over uncontrolled airspace! They have NO jurisdiction! It's simply unconstitutional for the Feds. to monitor Anyone! I can't explain it any better than that. Good luck!

Personally, I don't have a problem with remote id., but there's one aspect of it that I'm going to inquire about directly with the FAA Why would a 107 operator need to buy multiple broadcast modules if the operator had multiple drones if only one of the "fleet" was being used at any given point in time or, for that matter, if you had a backup drone available, simply in case the primary drone was disabled. I'm not affiliated with Dronetag, but their app seems to make the remote-id and drone relationship in the phone app. I guess I'm biased as a sole proprietor, but I could understand if you had multiple drones that were flying concurrently that needed broadcast modules and you wanted to be compliant with the remote-id mandate, but as a sole proprietor, flying only one drone at any given point in time, I don't understand why 1 beacon couldn't be paired with multiple drones.

@@AZ-Drone I still don't understand it either the combination of an TAAr egistration and a broadcast beacon, even if that beacon is flown on multiple aircraft is still unique, but the FAA and I disagree, and I'm not going to win that arguement. I have had a couple of email exchanges regarding broadcast remote ID and 108 operation, and while the response I received is workable for me, it propbably won't work for a lot of operations. Quite frankly, as a sole propriotor, I only use 1 drone that needs a broadcast modual. What I wanted to avoid was buying multiple boradcast moduals if there was a viable work-around, and for me, and there is. I have a couple of P4Ps that I use for real estate photography.. One hasn't been out of its case for mnths; it's a backup unit. If my primary drone crashes there's a pretty good chance that the drone won't be worth repairing, so I wanted to be able to use the backup with the same boardcast module, assuming it was still functional. Whiile this isn't a reasonable workaround for most operators , it resolves my problem. I had decided that there's a Mavic x, y, or z in my future, when my $2,000 worth of batteries. currently sitting in my case fail. I'm trying to defer the cost of a Mavic system until next year. HERE"S THE RESPONSE FROM THE FAA i recieved on 0707/23: “ *From a regulatory standpoint, there is no such thing as "decommissioning." As a Part 107 remote pilot, you would have to cancel the registration for drone # 1. If you wanted to use the broadcast module form drone # 1 on another aircraft, you would then register drone # 2 using the broadcast module's serial number. 14 CFR Part 48.110(7) states, "The serial number of a remote identification broadcast module provided in this application must not be listed on more than one Certificate of Aircraft Registration at the same time”*
@WW5RM

Totally agree! Also why does a 107 pilot have to register ALL drones as commercial? To me as a CDL driver thats the same as me having to register all my personal vehicles as Commercial vehicles! In other words a 107 pilot can not fly recreationally.

@@AZ-Drone Right! CDL and Commercial vehicle registration being 2 different things. Im not real familiar with the vehicle process and rules. But why cant a FAA 107 pilot have a drone for recreation? Now as far as Commercial Drivers License its multiple classes and numerous endorsements. Example. If you dont plan to carry Haz Mat then you dont get that endorsement. If you dont operate a vehicle with a trailer then you only get a Class B CDL. But its only 1 FAA 107 to cover everything. I think that needs to be changed too. Honestly the only thing makes any sense to me is this all ties back to the big A and those pushing for delivery by drone. Congress being pressured for action. So the FAA has jumped through hoops to come up with rules and action but its not done by people with common sense!

If i understand correctly, the Mavic Air 2 will have the RID included in the firmware update? I dont necessarily mind if the FAA knows my flight path, as i live on a farm and only fly around my land (rural Kentucky). If i dont update will my drone be "grounded"? I only use it a couple of times a month for 10-15 min to check on the fences, see where livestock is etc. Appreciate the information.

Nice to see MA2 will be supported. One thing tho, DroneTag is making and selling Karen Apps, so it’s doubtful you’ll be able to disable the Reply to WLAN Requests parameter like you can on other RID modules like BlueMark. Being able to disable that parameter means consumer smartphone apps can’t see you, which is certainly desirable in some situations. I’d stay away from DroneTag as they’ve demonstrated that they are not looking out for our best interests.

I tried registering that RID number for my Air 2 on the FAA website, but kept getting 'Invalid RID number'. I called their help line and shockingly got a real human being right away! After going over what I'd been trying to do and what I'd been entering the bottom line is I'm supposed to call DJI and complain to them. Anyone want to bet on how long that would take? According to one of my Patrons he can't get one for a few months according to the vendor due to lack of supply.

But how do you get the RID module for your "older" drone, mine being a Phantom 4.
@tobydz
@tobydz Жыл бұрын
Wait… firmware update is all? So exactly what component is broadcast capable that’s been in there since the *Phantom 4* and what’s it been doing *before* being allocated for RID?? As someone who has built more than a few sUAS’ for different purposes, none of the common core components broadcast *anything* except the VTX and sometimes a tiny bit of telemetry thanks to DSHOT… Guess that explains how DJI AeroScope works so well. SMH. What a brave new world we live in….. 😠

That's what I wondered too. Just a firmware update? I had always wondered what the toggle was in my Mavic 2 Pro's settings screen.

Rid can work on different transports like special modes of Wifi or Bluetooth so this is perfectly doable via firmware upgrade.

Do we still have to hook a phone up to it (Avada) or does their hardware do the job yet?

Still have to hook it up to the phone for my setup.

The avada remote id broadcasts via your phone. So you have to have a phone hooked to your goggles to fly. My guess is that all the software updates will make you hook your phone to goggles or controller to achieve remote id.
@AZ-Drone

If you neglect to connect to your phone you'll get a notification as well about remote ID. So you still need the phone connected. Too many cables hanging around sometimes.

I had actually purchased direct after asking a few questions. I would suggest buying it directly in the US, the shipping was a bit much. Just checked and Vertigodrones seems to have them in stock. I've never bought anything from them before.

I'm a Mini 2 recreational-only owner. The Mini 3 could have been an attractive upgrade. But although it is sub-250g (with the lighter battery), DJI forces Mini 3 recreational-only owners to use RID even though this is not required by the FAA. Why? If DJI is not responding to an FAA requirement, then whose requirement is it responding to? The CCP? Recall that DJI is considered a compliant member of the CCP military-industrial complex, that the US federal government considers use of DJI drones a security risk, and that the CCP is actively smuggling humans and contraband across the US-Mexico border.
