The 3-point statistical argument is flawed. It goes something like this… A 40% avg in paint makes a typical shot down low worth 0.8 points. In contrast, NBA players are making one-third of their shots at 3-point range, so those shots on average are worth 1 point. Based on that math alone, all shots should be from behind the arc. The problem with that is it overlooks the importance of having a guy down low who can also 1. Attract the defense to him; and 2. Grab offensive rebounds and put it back in. In other words, when your bigs are outside, they’re doing nothing for you down low. So, yes, it’s essential for a team to shoot a lot of 3-pointers. But the big men shouldn’t be the ones shooting them. Unless they’re able too shoot far above the league average - say 40% or so - then they’re more valuable in the paint, letting a guard shoot from outside. And by the way, Wemby barely shot at NBA average last year, and this year he’s shooting an abysmal 22% from behind the arc. So he has absolutely no business out there firing up threes all day. He hurts the Spurs when he does that.

@@roronoaDzoro1111 I think it’s about the sheer volume Steph and the Warriors were shooting at and the fact dat you can see the statistical impact they had. KD took 5 or 6 threes a game most of his career and while a lot of the tall skinny off brand KDs like Ingram were obviously inspired by him, the overall 3 point impact on the NBA is Curry. Nobody was shooting 11 3s a game before 15-16 and then Curry did and suddenly everybody’s 3 point shooting elevated. Gasol went from takin literally 0 threes a game to 3 or 4 immediately after 15-16. Horford was taking 0.5 and then it suddenly leaped to 3 and up for the rest of his career in 15-16. KD’s impact was immense but I wouldn’t say it was as large as Curry’s. He had a big impact on a specific type of player but Curry had an impact on every position and completely shifted the way everyone played
