Great i just bought a Midas Siena 480 (48 tracks), looking up to get a used presonus 4848 converter! Great sounding, affordable 32 analog through db25 cables, wish me luck!

I run a 26x32 + 4848. Really pissed at Presonus for discontinuing them and always keeping an eye out for used 4848s as well "just in case". Good luck!

@@exhumus Yeah, i have been looking at a few units like the antelope orion or the presonus studiolive 32 box for quite sometime, but unfortunatly the 1st one is double the price and the later doesn't have any clocking outside Usb/aes which i found to be quite limited, then i stumbled upon the 4848 on a craigslist clone site we have in france and looked it up on youtube/google, really pumped about it RN, hope it's in good condition !

What is the most channels you have ever recorded simultaneously? I would personally ditch the desk whilst I could get decent $ for it and then I would get into 500 series modules and have them rack mounted into one of those units that swivel 45 to 90 degrees. People go on about the transformers on them, but you get what you pay for.

I’ve actually considered that. I’m only using the desk since I had it in storage and bought it over 15 years ago.

@@PetrolMediaInc Cambridge Audio do an amazing encosure that takes adat as well as analog. You can mix wet dry as well on each input. It’s not like you are recording live bands or drummers. You wouldn’t need more than 12 channels if one day you planned to.’ Not sure if you watch Glenn Frickers channel, but he bought a neve genesys board and the computer inside it died and he needed a new computer sent from neve. That isn’t ideal, that computer will eventually die and from what I am reading, it is an intel 13th gen which are all dying due to shoddy construction, they are a time bomb. Anyway, the desk is a depreciating liability, you could be better off with a modular, compact system that is easily expandable and customisable as your needs change. Food for thought anyway… I just go into the computer, my drums are all software.

@@notsure1135I’ll take that into consideration seriously. If you have a link to it I would like to check it out.

@@PetrolMediaInc kzbin.info/www/bejne/i3bckmesapWLfJYsi=6BOoya1NDU9_hOHD This guy uses the Cambridge Audio enclosure for his example. If I recorded amps or drums, I would get into this, but even as summing groups and then printing the result to get it sounding better, it's good so if I come into some money at some point, I am getting this.

For what you paid for that analog Midas console, you could have purchased a used Yamaha DM2000. I get it, you like the analog console layout, however, if you worked entirely with everything in the digital realm, you'd have reduced a great deal of the incompatibility issues you face. Digital is not the "end all, save all", but it would have simplified your work flow, and gotten rid of most of your "spiderweb" of cables. You've already spent way more money, than you needed to (just by having an analog console). It's not going to get less expensive, as you continue to expand. You're going to need more outboard gear (even used gear can be expensive), or software packages featuring better plug-ins, but already I can see, you'll have compatability issues. Midas networking is proprietary HyperMac, and alternatively AES50. Newer Midas digital, and Behringer digital can utilize Dante expansion cards, I don't know if the same is true for Midas' older analog console. So you may be stuck with using only AES50 Expansion cards (much of the newer gear and plug-ins on the market are Dante compatible, AES50 is nearly becoming niche, and proprietary only). I think you started your studio, from a position of, "how to make what I have, work with what I want" (a common mistake among novice "studio builders"). From this point on, your approach should be, (a) cable management [get that "spiderweb" under control], (b) organize the work area where your instruments are, (c), get your computer fixed, or replace it [I don't know what your budget is, but I suggest getting another computer, and it should only be dedicated to audio production]. I know it's easy for someone on the outside looking in, to be nitpicky, but at this point you should have no interest in acquiring more gear. Your priority has to be, getting your system running, and doing simple test recordings, just to make sure your routing is correct (do not concern yourself, with how your system sounds at this stage; you need to make sure everything does what you want it do, when you want it to do it, and goes where you assign it to go; you can work on getting the system to sound good later).

Not true considering I bought it over 15 years ago and the Yamaha was almost a $20,000 problem at the time. I would have absolutely bought the Yamaha. It was my first choice at the time but the finances were not there. Also I don’t worry about recall or any of that since I only use it to track sounds in not to record anyone. I’m using it because I already own it and no other reason. The rats nest of wires has already been dealt with a few months ago when I filmed this video.
