That's how Ricky and Steve met Karl, he was actually technically the producer of their radio show in the early 2000's, but once they started speaking to him on air it soon became like the Karl show, and much of his best stuff came out there. You should check out the XFM broadcasts of the Ricky Gervais Show, they are on youtube.

The Island is Sentinel Island and the reason they attack visitors nowadays (and the reason why we know so much about them despite them being cut off from the World and hostile to outsiders) is because when the British (sorry lol-and bare in mind I'm telling this from memory so specific details may be wrong, although the whole jist is correct) were busy developing the Empire they'd visit everywhere, find the elders, wine & dine them etc to kind of persuade them to allow us to liberate the Island and what not. Anyway, on the first visit from outsiders the Islanders were very receptive and welcoming but an elder who the British spoke to (and maybe others?) got ill and died from a disease that the British had inadvertently passed on. With them being so cutoff from the rest of the World they didn't/don't have the antibodies the rest of us do to fight off even the simplest of normal (to us) viruses. Therefore, since they don't have the understanding that they could be vaccinated and protected etc & even if they did it's no-ones business to force it upon them, they protect their Island and most importantly their people from the very scary possibility that simple contact can cause them to drop dead. This is why they are protected and left alone by the rest of the World and why people intending to visit are told not to do so, and are not given any sympathy when they attempt to & die. It's idiotic, extremely self-centered and deathly dangerous to every single person they may interact.

Karl was also cast in a show that Ricky did called ‘Derek’ also Karl starred in his own comedy show called ‘sick of it’ Stephen also wrote and starred in a couple of his own shows. One was called ‘Hello ladies’ and his most recent is called ‘The outlaws’ this last series also starred Christopher Walken. It’s really good! It’s a comedy/drama/thriller! You should check it out if you can

As for Karl, he sometimes does think differently. Geniuses and artists see the world in unique ways. I think Karl may not be a genius, but he has unique viewpoints which expand the mind. During this series, Karl has been ridiculed by the others, when what he states was true, or would be true today.

People have probably mentioned this before, but the show he created ‘Sick of It’ is a good example of probably the biggest and one of the best production of his that he has a lot of creative control over without Ricky and Steve’s involvement, just to reference his background in radio and then tv (not to mention Suzanne who is in the same world as a print and radio journalist I’m pretty sure). It would be a good reaction to do I reckon.
