Jack was so out of character in MD.. more like a secondary character to Gwen, who was written like Lara Croft. Jack is utterly broken without Ianto. There were two scenes that actually felt like TW to me. One is when he visits an old lover on his deathbed and mentions Ianto & how this other guy "would have been jealous" of him. He nearly cries when he says Ianto's name. About a year and a half has passed since COE, but since Jack has a separate timeline he could have been gone for much longer.

@DarkwingDuckie1 Actually, from partway through season two throughout the rest of Ianto's run on the show, I thought they managed pretty well without saying much. Little looks and everything. Their relationship was (is) so beautiful. Jack just seemed broken in crappy MD without him.

I have to tell you that as hard as I have sounded about Jack, that is the reason that I watched Torchwood in the first place and why I watched it as far as I could. I'm watching on Netflix so it ends at the end of series 3. I will have to wait for Miracle Day and see if it is anywhere as good without Ianto.

Well, you don't have to agree. But I think there is a time and a place for hugging and the battlefield (for all intents and purposes) is not it. I'm not sure if all the radio plays are on KZbin, but if you search for "house of the dead torchwood part one" that first link should take you to Part One of the most outstanding of them all, as far as I'm concerned. It's beautiful and heartbreaking and Jack lays all his feelings out on the line for Ianto. Sniff. (Glad you're not a Gwen/Jack fan!!)

Ashley Price :31 and :32 are from Lisa season 1 episode four I think 1:55 is either the season 1 finale or Lisa again and 2:15 is the season 1 finale again and 2:24 is Countrycide its season 1 episode 6 I think hope that helped

What forced? There was more flirtation J/I in the first series then after they supposedly actually got together. And I do think there was a deep connection on Ianto's part, but I don't think that it could be from Jack. And that was truly the only time that he showed anything really at all. You are telling me that if you just pulled the one that you loved out from under rubble like that and they could have died, you wouldn't be so relieved that you wouldn't at least hug them? I would!

Forced as in I never bought the supposed attraction between Jack & Gwen - it always felt forced & unnecessary to me. But no, I definitely think Jack loved Ianto, but given how he always loses the ones he loves he might be more reluctant to show it. No, if I was in that circumstance I would make sure my loved one was okay then help everyone else. There was time for comfort after they went back to the Hub. He did clutch him around the shoulders, if I recall! But they aren't touchy-feely people.

I disagree. Jack & Gwen's forced flirtation was over by the wedding - that was a turning point when he let her go (thank god) & moved on. I don't think either Jack or Ianto were overly affectionate because they were both aware of their duty to Torchwood, but there was definitely a deep connection between them - which was proven when Jack begged the 456 for Ianto's life among many other instances. As for Fragments, it definitely wasn't the time for a hug/kiss when the others were in danger.

No, I'm a woman. And in that moment, a hug would not have been appropriate at all when others were in danger. Jack and Ianto have a close relationship but they aren't the types to walk around snuggling all the time. Jack obviously cared very much for Ianto. Listen to the radio plays - those are canon, as they were sanctioned by RTD and the BBC. Jack and Gwen were never in love - I think they were attracted, yes, but a relationship between them would be doomed so thank god that will NEVER happen.

Are you a guy? That might make a difference in the hug. Of course you make sure they are okay, but for as long as it took him to ask him if he was okay he could have hugged him, and I don't agree that Jack just isn't that touchy-feely kind of person. And I can see where you are coming from as far as Jack being reluctant to show his love for Ianto. I don't agree on Jack/Gwen though. I do agree that is was unnecessary. She had a boyfriend. That should have been good enough.

I don't think so. I think Ianto deserved better than Jack. Jack was hung up on Gwen the whole time, even at the dance of her wedding, he just couldn't dance with Ianto without watching Gwen. And in series 3 when they were suppose to be a couple instead of helping Ianto deal with being a couple Jack just gets all pissy. I just don't see any affection from Jack's point to Ianto even when he pulls Ianto out from under the rubble in "fragments" not even a hug and/or kiss.

I've watched the original/classic/real series (1-3) so many times, but I watched Miracle Day once and it was absolutely horrible. It's really not even worth it, in my opinion, because it's horribly written, the new characters are such stereotypes, and it doesn't feel like Torchwood at all. Such a disappointment, and the bad ratings and reviews probably mean the end of TW - I don't think anyone would pick it up for another series after that!
