Like you, I’m a little huskier than most hikers. If you like Lone Peaks, but they wear out too fast, Topo Terraventures are very similar weight, toe box shape, etc. but have a stiffer sole and are more durable. I loved the lone peaks straight from the box, but my feet started to hurt from the cushion wearing out after 200 miles. I’ve gotten over a year out of the Topos.

I’ve heard very good things about Topo. We’ll see how these new ones do. Then, the Topo’s are next! Thanks for watching.

I got different results from the LP5 and Topos. My terradventure from 3 years ago lasted only 200 miles. My current LP5 are on 415 miles, which is a lot more then the LP4 and timp 1.5. I’m 6’5”, 225lbs.

The Hills are the only place I've used trekking poles a lot. I think I'm over camp shoes too. Also, great video Mr. Pelton!

I broke down and started carrying camp shoes. I noticed that I really wanted to get out of my hiking shoes in camp and was walking around barefoot or in socks. I figured I only needed to step on somethings sharp once to make the weight savings not worth it.

I did the first half of this trail solo in 2019. I'll finish the second 60 miles in September. Can't wait!

Funny, I bought a pair of the Zero shoes last you too. Brought them on one trip and never again. I prefer my Crocs and usually bring them.

Crocs are waaaay more comfy.

Good job, Rob. So many parallels to me. I solo hiked 60 miles on the Centennial Trail in 2019 until a full-blown snowstorm (in September!) forced me off the trail. I'm a big boy that had the original Lone Peaks years ago. I loved them, but I have never had a pair of shoes wear out so fast. Didn't buy another pair again until this year. We'll see how it goes. I bought my inReach mini after this trip because I was caught out there with very little cellphone service in that storm trying to get someone to pick me up. I was a little lost in deteriorating conditions and decided it was too risky as a solo guy. For me, though, weather was in the 90s until the day of the storm, and as a slow hiker, water was a constant concern for the whole trip. I now carry 2.5 liter capacity.

That’s crazy. I agree, the LP’s are a great shoe. I hate they don’t last long. Even shorter of a lifespan with more weight on them. Now, if they made that exact shoe with a 28mm-30mm stack and rock plate, that would be the gold medal triple diamond 5 star shoe….

Since seeing Buckleys rew of the SG hammock, I’ve had my eye on it. Do you think it’d fit a 6’4” guy, and any other random thoughts on it. Thanks for posting.

rob pelton Interesting reply. I didn’t think the length would have made that much difference. I would have thought more width. Thanks

Worth noting the Waymark Thru is now a framed pack, still 40L. If folks are interested in a frameless pack from them, they could either go with the EVLV (a few liters smaller), or maybe take out the stays from the new Thru (though I think Waymark advises against that). I've got the newer EVLV (in the 38L size), and it would fit the loadout you used okay, though 26 lbs is pushing the comfort limit for me (and my bony shoulders) without a hip belt.
@robpelton2 жыл бұрын
I noticed that! No frameless Thru. I do know they are revamping some packs. Perhaps that is on the list. I like Ultra material of the EVLV as well. Hopefully more offerings are made with that. This last loadout of mine is max for that pack for sure. I have the opposite of bony shoulders though. Lol. Thanks for watching!

I know I mentioned this before , but the saxx gave me a chafe after a few days on the CT last year. Just a heads up bro. It was that orange "cordy" part that tucks up there. Luckily my backup pair was the exaficio's and not my second pair of saxx. Something different worked out.
@robpelton2 жыл бұрын
So far, so good for me! I still have my ExOfficio’s too.

Luxuries: I can see being over camp shoes. And, I can see liking the chair. And, taking extra water bottles doesn't add much weight, so that's fine. But, no pillow? How do you sleep with no pillow?? (Great video, and thank you for that! I love my Waymark pack too!).
@robpelton2 жыл бұрын
Haha! I find I don’t really need a pillow in that hammock. I typically just use my puffy or another mid-layer if I want head/neck support.

Nice load out! I've found that I don't use those same camp shoes very often either. What lighter midlayer do you use (I have a few and can never decide between an alpha hoody or the Kuiu Peleton)? Do you use a hangtime hook in your hammock ever? And when it gets cooler do you use a 40⁰ underquilt layered with the 40⁰ built in UQ?
@robpelton2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been wearing the Outdoor Vitals Ventus hoodie. I love my hangtime hook! When it dips below 40, I roll with my Ridgerunner hammock with a 20° UQ. Thanks for watching!

great video! quick question - do you pack with a "just in case" mentality or do you try to only bring what you will need for the planned days? do you try to have extra food, for example, in case you were to get lost or your trip is unexpectedly extended? thx!
@robpelton11 ай бұрын
Hi! Great question. As I have evolved as a backpacker, I phased out of the “Just In Case” mindset. Even still, I end up bringing a lot of food back. Now, my goal is to have all the food gone when I get to the vehicle. Thanks for watching!
