I had to learn a whole new way of applying and interviewing. My daughter helped me with my resume and how to get it noticed thru screening and my networking opened many doors that otherwise would be closed. I ended up working in my field for my state and the pay is a bit less over the next ten years it will quickly grow to where it should be plus I will qualify for a small pension and I was able to convert my 401k into an investment fund here. The best perk is the medical is cheeper and way better than what I had. So don’t over look that state job people. Especially if you are older.

I’m someone who has very high levels of empathy so I often want to defend others. In a way I end up feeling like I’m defending myself. Also, as I stated earlier I believe her reaction because I would react similarly. Smiling and laughing doesn’t actually mean you’re happy or enjoying yourself. She most likely needed to process what just happened. I smile when I want to cry; I laugh at things that deeply affect me. When you’re known as a happy person in life, it’s sometimes because you shove down any kind of negative emotion or reaction. I rarely cry, but recently I’ve been crying pretty much every week because I ignored my emotions for too long. A career transition firm that I worked with after my layoff had a good suggestion on creating SOAR stories from your past (work mostly) to cover questions most new jobs ask about for how you handled various situations. S - Situation, O - Obstacles, A - Actions you took, R - Results. I came up with 12 that covered most examples I wanted to share about myself. Dealing with difficult people, a task where I didn't know everything at the start, mistakes made and then corrected, etc... Good luck to you.

This is GREAT advice! Interviewers often want to hear about specific situations where you can show off what you know, how you think, and who you are. Interviews are hard for interviewers, too, because it's so hard to get to know someone in a 30 mins - 1 hour interview. This prep can help a ton for you and the interviewer and can help you feel more confident because you won't have to come up with answers on the spot and will know all of the points about yourself you want to communicate!

This is my biggest fear right now. But actively searching. I don't have a build fund yet maybe that's why I am scared to death. But your videos are really a break from all this madness. So all I gotta do is follow you ❤

Presumably she had a massive tech salary so she's fine. Unless you have some major debt or never save money, the savings from a tech job should carry you far.

She also got 5 months pay for getting fired btw

At my job, a ton of people were being lay-off. Not in the typical way because my job is NASTY. They grabbed mostly woman who has worked in the job for over 5+ years and move them to other departments hoping they would quit. And then hiring younger, cultural people (my area is mostly causican) so the company can get that extra payment for hiring those people and also paying them less than the same people who are causican. So I ended up quitting before they even had the chance to do that to me :) it was good timing for me since I started school again but I left when I had a good reputation. I'm treating it as a break. I was thinking about quitting anyway but after all of that started happening, I jumped the gun. Lay-offs may be tragic at first but they can honestly be a blessing in disguise. It takes you from that mindset and broaden your opportunities

I wish I would’ve came across this earlier, I got laid off in November and seeing how you handled this so optimistically is refreshing. Gave me a little confidence boost to keep it positive and as stress free as possible

lol i mean it's prooooobably a whole lot easier to handle when because of your large social media presence you have over FIFTY job offers lined up already. I have applied for over 150 jobs (i stopped counting at 150). I got one interview so far... i don't know if i have ever related to something less in my entire life lol

Getting laid off is the best ever. Severance? Yes please. Medical continuing? Yes please. Paid time off while I get to travel and sleep in all day? Can I order three of those?
@hannahsteadman61027 ай бұрын
I also have RSF, lol and I always smile or giggle in stressful situations!!! I also do not get the help I need medically because they think I'm playing as I smile and say " yeah the pains about a 7..." 🤷🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️

Hi, great tip. Call your friends and trusted coworkers and senior coworker ( kinda, a boss your are comfortable and respectful of) and spend a few hours helping each others with recomendation letters. Always a plus to interviews and it's mostly a review of your peers. See your strenghs and weaknesses. It could go a long way for just one last afternoon with some beers and food on the side. Much Love.

Damn, what a nice job she was able to still max out of tax contributions and they are giving her transition classes. She will definitely get a new job easily.

You can be this cool when your job is not your only source of your income. Unfortunately it’s not the case for most people.

+ she still got pay for the next 6months and health insurance from Discord aslong as she doesnt get a new Job its basically a 4month paid vacation. All the people crying about big tech laying people off are grifters.

When I was laid off due to covid. I mopped for a bit, then realized I probably wouldn't have quit otherwise, enjoyed a week or two doing covid appropriate lazing. But since everyone was either being laid off or their job was going online (I didn't have the qualifications for a work from home job), I figured I would go back to college virtually and get my degree. I also babysat my niece while her mom worked.

Tbh. Having viewers or an audience, like u do, might have help a lot. If i get laid off, my only options would be those side jobs that pay peanuts and would struggle to pay rent. If looking for jobs, unemployment benefits wouldn’t be enough. Glad to see you got on your feet fast!
