What I Did Wrong - Hints for Better National Archives Visit

Thank you for this video. Seems like things have changed quite a bit over the years. My first visit was at least 25 years ago. My husband was so, so, about genealogy back then. I started with one of his ggreat grandfathers. He came across this on piece of paper. It was his ggreat grandmother writing to get the pension. Long story short, when he realized this was something original, he said, "I'm holding something she handled and this is her writing". I'll never forget that moment. That was when the light came on for him. He doesn't do any research, but he is interested when I explain something to him or explain a problem I might be having. Not sure if we'll get back. Thank you again.

Since all branches of my family immigrated to the US from the 1890s to 1920s, and few were in the military, what helpful types of records could I expect to find in the National Archives? Are the Naturalization records there or in the state they resided in?

Some naturalization records can be found on FamilySearch or Ancestry. Naturalization records are held in the local National Archives, those post 1906 are held at US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

12:19 can you scan to a thumbdrive?

No. You need the software. It would have to be a computer I’m pretty sure.

You could probably have a thumb drive attached to your computer, but I bet you need a computer as an in between the scanner and the thumb drive doesn't sound like you could save directly to a thumb drive

They are Public Domain ..No? But Not scanned for Online Access....

They are public domain so can be used but not digitized yet. 😄👍
