This was awesome! Thank you. I’ve experienced these issues with mine as well, and was curious why most videos on yt don’t mention these traits. Your video was helpful, honest and brings much needed insight for those considering this breed.

I had a tri color beautiful girl named Roxie who was so sweet and very smart. She was well behaved and slept with us every night. She passed away when she was 91/2 and our hearts were broken. She died of mitral valve. We now have 2 of the Blenheim they are Mandy and Molly and they are very different from Roxie and from each other. Mandy is the alpha dog. They are about the same age but not related. Mandy treats Molly like she’s her puppy. She washes her face and takes care of her. Mandy is very smart and Molly not so much. She really doesn’t understand a lot, but she’s super sweet. They are not very well trained because my husband thinks they should pretty much do whatever they want. They only come if they feel like it and I can’t walk them because he never really has them at his side. Even with this they are cuddly and love able and they bring so much joy to our lives. How do you feel about all the licking? Today is 12/21/23.

My cab, Franklin is very sensitive with. Food. I found out thanks to my brother I can give him pieces of raw carrots and it will stop diarrhea. He is also in tune to chasing leaves and small things in the wind. But that is bred into the breed. Super affectionate too.
@SydneyFrancia3 жыл бұрын
Aww! OMG yes Slater always runs after the leaves! Although the breed has their antics it’s so worth it because it’s such a wonderful breed.

Every breed has their pros and cons. And sometimes you could be blessed. My little King Charles Cav 'Rainbow' never barked once yet and is the quietest well-disciplined dog I have ever seen. only 6 months old at the moment.

They are so beautiful & it's so painful to know the breed has the serious health issues. Hopefully more people will breed them responsibly. I would love to see this talked about more so it can be changed, hopefully.

Throwing up after a meal comes from eating too fast. If you use his dry kibble food as treats through out the entire day, he will only get a littlebit at a time and be less likely to throw it up. And you will have his full attention as you are the food suorce. Or you could take him for a good walk before his meal so he will take a nap after eating. Theres also different balls or puzzles that make the dog eat more slowly as they have to use their brain and nose to get the food out. Which can be nice to use if you need to keep the dog occupied for a while.

9 y/o Piper is the love of our lives! Not a barker, yawns at squirrels, (we have so many around), is now deaf but understands hand signals. She’s a chunky monkey a real foody! Loves her crate and begs to go to bed around 9. She snores loud 😮! And last she is our shadow. Whenever we leave a room she’s on our heels. She’s the BEST‼️😝

Abra does all of these things 😅😅. She backtalks CONSTANTLY! She never door dashed until last weekend when someone had a puppy right outside our house. Ahhh patience patience 🤣
@SydneyFrancia3 жыл бұрын
LOL! The back talks are hilarious. It’s like their trying to understand you and then give you those puppy eyes. And oh no! Door dashing is my biggest fear. Poor little thing just wanted to say hello to her neighbor. Ahhhh but yes patience it’s key!

I misunderstood his name as “Slitter” - word from my native Scotland meaning “ splash about or eat/drink messily”. My girl was quite a lady; she was astounded when a visiting Chihuahua took HER big biscuit (mine was saving it for a rainy day) into HER bed and waved it about in a taunting way.

Thank you for lessons you have learned from training your pup. Some day I will get one too I will try to use the information you gave us some day to have a companion , to train to love and maybe he or she might back talk too some day I will get a cavalier king Charles pup

I was wondering is there anyway to decrease the chances of a cavalier getting MVD?
@SydneyFrancia3 жыл бұрын
There’s no way to avoid it unfortunately because it’s genetic. Just make sure they’re on a healthy diet, get exercise, and they see the vet once/twice a year for check ups :)

He will be a year old on Thursday! And it’s quite funny because sometimes he wants to go off and do his own thing but then other times he cries when I leave the house. So I would say 50/50 lol.

He looks quite young. Believe me, the chasing thing especially quiets down. But everything does too, and yet have had two very different from each other. Oh this second one is embarrassing about the attention in public!!!! 😳 And my first had the awful heart defect and this one luxated patellas. She’s actually scheduled for surgery this Tuesday. Prayers are welcome!

Lol I agree with everything, my Alya is also very manipulative. She is so smart and likes to use her cuteness to get her way. She also will backtalk sometimes, for example when I pick her up and drag her away from something (shes not whining Or barking, she growls and grunts and does all sorts of weird squeaks). Aaand yes they do have a curiosity instinct but I believe It will subside with age. And she also dislikes when people wont pet her ( she is not whining but is sad and wants to cuddle at least with me). With the diseases it depends a LOT on the breeder. Alya’s mom and granny are health tested, mom 6 yo no MVD, granny 10 y o no MVD, no patellas, no eye problems, no SM...

We have a five-year old tri-color cavalier and he pretty much does all those things you mentioned. He is much easier to manage now that he is older... he's a great little guy and we all love him so much. He is still head strong and a bird, squirrel or rabbit will send him off running or barking. That is what sporting dogs do. Enjoy your videos!
@fuxart12243 жыл бұрын
I really appreciate this honest video. You usually hear and see how fantastic dogs are, omitting that at times they can be a pain in the neck, because they have their own personality. Having 3 cavaliers now they are very different, each with strenghts and weaknesses, just like people. Worst thing to me it's that they are vacuum cleaners and grab, chew, bite EVERYTHING when we are outside. I tell them "No!", they leave it and move on to the next "interesting" thing 🤦🏻♂️ ...I hope that by growing up they will dismiss this kind of behaviour, as the elder does. Same with curiosity: one of my two pupoies is distracted by everything that moves: falling leaves, butterflies, birds, helicopters...and tries to chase them (imagine when it's windy). Same with people and other dogs: he gets so enthusiastic he runs toward them to cheer/greet/play. The other puppy is quiter and responds better to my commands. It's really engaging managing 3 dogs (2 puppies and a deaf senior). Yeah..diseases really suck; cruel thing with such a beautiful breed 😒😟
@SydneyFrancia3 жыл бұрын
Nobody’s perfect, especially dogs. And YES I don’t understand how they put EVERYTHING in their mouths. I’m trying to understand the logic behind putting rocks and trash in their mouths lol. That curiosity instinct of theirs is crazy. Yes I think older dogs know better and are kind of like “been their done that”. Beautiful breed but they definitely have their little antics haha :)

Yeah I think this will all not matter when he isn’t around anymore. You will miss those innocent eyes and face. You are taking the dog for granted and you will see how profoundly sad it is when he is no longer with you. I just lost my Caviler after 11.5 years and all those little things I miss that annoy you now
