What I do for my bumble foot chicken! (Who is doing great)

So do you just soak the feet? Do you spray anything on after the soak and before wrapping? How long do you do this? What if you have to remove the bumble from the feet? Obviously I’m new to chicken care..anything helpful appreciated!!

Thank you for your questions!! This video was posted almost a year ago so I have updated the things I do for bumblefoot some. This particular chicken had it pretty bad on both feet, but the first time I soaked her feet I peeled off the black part off her feet and tried to squeeze out as much of the infection as possible. After that I use a chlorine dioxide solution or Blu-Kote which you can find at practically any feed or animal supply store. Iodine could also work, or some kind of drawing salve. Anything bacteria killing will work!! Just make sure there are no pain killers added. Something I have changed is that I've stopped wrapping the feet so often and have a few days to let it breathe!! I usually do this until I see improvement which is usually a week or more. Good luck with your chickens!! 🤍

I’m dealing with this for the first time with my sweet hen. I feel so bad for her. . I’m on day 3 of epsom baths and day two of using Hylands Pride drawing salve. Poor girl has it on both feet. I’m hoping it gets better soon. I tried wrapping her feet (which was almost impossible by myself) and put her in a small extra coop/run. Are antibiotics necessary? I used triple antibiotic and vetericyn as well but wondering if I needed to call a vet.

Thank you for your comment!! In my opinion antibiotics aren't extremely necessary especially because they can get pricey, but if you want to use them go for it!! This is pretty easy to treat at home but you can always resort to a vet if you think it's not getting better or you aren't comfortable treating it. What you are doing sounds good and I wish you the best of luck!! 🤍
