I absolutely love and appreciate this video, I discovered one of my hens with the early stages of bumble foot. First timer here, thank you for sharing even with how nervous you were!

Funny how when they get egg bound, you can just put nice warm water in the bathtub and set them and and leave them and they will just stay put. I have never had one with bumble foot before. But now I know what to do. Thanks

Thanks for giving me the courage to attempt this! Just finished so I can’t give a recovery report, but my hen seems more comfortable already. I know this is a gross thing to say, but it was a bit like removing a huge blackhead 😂
@alastair195511 ай бұрын
That was 9 months ago now, I would be interested in an update if she has stayed good. Just, you did not remove any dead material or "kernel" from inside after you removed the scab, I would like to know if this was successful long term.
@SimpleSanctuaryGarden10 ай бұрын
Hi there! Yes it was. We kept ointment on it for a couple of weeks and prevented infection from worsening or spreading. I will say that getting it in the webbing has made it so that she gets dirt stuck in those spots from time to time but it comes out w a quick soak.

I wish I would have checked my chicken's feet more often. I have a chicken with a really bad bubble. I did not notice until it started limping. So far we've been soaking for almost a week. The bumble has attached itself to the skin of the foot. Trying to remove it it started to bleed. I am soaking it longer to make it easier. Excellent job by the way!❤

How did you know she had bumble foot? What a great and informative video. Going to go check my ladies now.

You did so well! Can't believe it came off so early/easily. Did she roost ok with the dressing on?
@SimpleSanctuaryGarden2 ай бұрын
She did but I did also replace it every day for about a week (sometimes sooner if she’d torn it up real bad)
@valthatcher1235 Жыл бұрын
wow thanks for this. I feel I can attempt the soak. Not sure if she has bumblefoot but want to soak and check. Did the tape stay on? Did you need to change it daily?
@SimpleSanctuaryGarden Жыл бұрын
The tape stayed on! I did change it daily and apply antibiotic ointment for about a week to be safe

When I soaked my hens feet, I had them in a container like this but I just put a towel over top, they don’t know they can get out, and they stayed pretty calm.. I went this route because I tired with a hole in the lid and they were freaking out just like yours.
@StefanieTucker-ks8sd2 ай бұрын
So refreshing to see a first timers experience. I’m terrified of mine possibly getting bumble foot. How did you cut the hole for the lid?

This chicken did not have bumble foot. She had some impacted rocks or stones and dirt. No scab was pulled off, as there wasn’t one, and no kernel of infected tissue was pushed out from it, which would look a whitish yellow in colour. It would also leave. A big hole and usually small amt of blood present as well. So yea, I think you thought it looked like bumble foot as you saw a darker area but just some impacted stones and dirt.
@hannahdivic284 ай бұрын
Yes, this is bumblefoot. It can look different in different cases.
@jennifertheobald98232 ай бұрын
I think if you catch it early it can be just as easy as that to take care of. I believe what you are describing is a bad case of bumblefoot then you run into those things.
@steviemichelle7271Ай бұрын
This was definitely bumblefoot. I can clearly see the white discharge, the hole, and a little blood as she removes each kernel. Pebbles don’t just get lodged 1/4” deep into the pads of a chicken’s foot.

Thank you for sharing info could you list what you need to treat this? This would be helpful too ! And you did great ,so no need to be nervous

What kind of ontiment did you use
@SimpleSanctuaryGarden7 ай бұрын
An antibiotic ointment like neosporin but without the pain relief aspect. Do not use the kind with pain relief
@winniecash1654 Жыл бұрын
How long did you soak her feet?
@heatherbroski6900 Жыл бұрын
Don’t you have to squeeze out the infected tissue after pulling the acab off?? That’s like taking a scab off a pimple but not squeezing out the pus/sebum from it. What was the point??
@winniecash1654 Жыл бұрын
I hope she answers as it's real important to know
@msmith7472 Жыл бұрын
Pretty sure that's what the antibiotic ointment was for
@susandebolt3468 Жыл бұрын
I think she removed the remnants with the tweezers
@heatherbroski6900 Жыл бұрын
Those don’t look like bubble foot at all. More like an impacted rock or stone with dirt. She didn’t peel off a scab or squeeze out the infected tissue which is whitish yellow. This chicken did not have jumbo foot. Also the foot wasn’t even hugely swollen like you see with bumble foot
@LorieAnderson-mg1jm Жыл бұрын
So I’m new to this… if this is just impacted dirt, stone, etc …. does it need to be removed like she did in this video to keep it from becoming bumble foot????
@ShelteringFarm9 ай бұрын
Your hands are shaking.... it might be so hard to see his pain.
@husqv51473 ай бұрын
Not even close to being bumblefoot, just dirt compacted into a small pocket. No soaking is even needed for this, I do it to my hens all the time about 10 seconds per foot and done. You didn't save your chickens feet from anything.
@BigsexyChickenthighs3 ай бұрын
That was bumblefoot actually I'm a registered veterinarian and she did a very great job and if you're running into this issue and you're not wrapping their feet that's why they keep feeling back up with dirt because it's an infection and you need to take better care if your chickens
