What you’re talking about at 9:00 is called radical acceptance!! Once I figured it out and starting trying to practice it, my depression/anger about being depressed got a lot better. I still feel like it’s unfair and difficult, but it’s easier to accept it and live with it instead of fighting it. A friend also mentioned to me that it can be helpful to view it as a disability; instead of not being able to do something, you just do things differently. Really resonated with this video, it was great!!!

A lot of times I get extra anxious simply because of my anxiety and not knowing WHY I feel anxious. I recently saw a TED talk that basically explained that thinking of anxiety as your worst enemy is never going to help. But if you think of it as a way your body is taking care of you by trying to prepare you for what's to come, you begin to kind of accept it and the relationship between your mind and body isn't as bad. I've been trying it, and it doesn't help all of the time (bc you can't just stop anxiety) but it definitely helps in a lot of situations. :)
@basicallyreese2 жыл бұрын
i’ll have to find that ted talk it sounds helpful😊

I heard in a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). I’ve had to overhaul how I approach taking care of my brain (exercise, journaling, studying etc) by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 40-60% effort into my journaling habit - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my yt channel. After a really bad depression phase I started to believe I couldn’t change and I’d feel that horrible forever. Historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up. I’m still figuring out how to be a person again, reintegrate into society but right now I have a solid foundation that I’ve never had before.
@basicallyreese2 жыл бұрын
i love this advice and i definitely agree - having a few consistent habits is so helpful
@risika2 жыл бұрын
@@basicallyreese I definitely felt hopless as I realized my mental illness was not magically healing despite my life getting better. But this idea of mediocre consistency is the first thing in years that I felt like I could actually have as a goal that wasn't just about external accomplishment.
@chiaralinnea43352 жыл бұрын
this is so interesting!
@hv972 жыл бұрын
thank you for sharing this. staying consistent at something feels almost impossible for me. when I get paralyzed with anxiety I can't do anything other than the bare minimum such as getting up in the morning, eating and showering. my brain just doesn't allow me to read, write, study, watch a movie or do pretty much anything. i've had a pretty consistent routine where I used to read at least 10 minutes every day and it was amazing, i've managed to read so many books over the course of like a year and a half. and now I've been in an anxious/depressed episode for a few months and I completely stopped reading. my brain just can't, i feel so overwhelmed at the thought of even starting to read again, as if something bad is gonna happen if i return to it. anxiety is a b***h. how did you manage to make yourself a routine and stick to it? because for me, the thought of making a routine for myself sounds like i'm constraining my time and days - which is wrong and I'm aware of it, but my anxiety is like: if you make yourself do this and that for this much time each day you're restricting yourself and possibly robbing yourself of some new and spontaneous experiences that could happen daily. 😔
@risika2 жыл бұрын
@@hv97 I totalllly feel you. The way I was able to develop consistency or even the ability to try was when I realized I needed to drop my expectations. If casey niestat calls his vlogs, films - I'm going to call 1min of stretching a workout. And Im not going to feel bad about it. If trying to eat healthy, is just eating a baked potato every day it's better than not eating. When I dropped any sort of expectation from my goals and just focused on completion, It really helped free me from the anxiety. It felt waaay lest constraining and actually doable. As for spontaneity - once I realized the goal was just movement, I actually felt free-er because I realized I could do anything. And after a while of doing it me and my brain realized some small bits of consistency actually made me more spontaneous during the rest of my day. Also lowering expectations made me less harsh on my self when I can't do anything, its also been an exercise in compassion because I see how unrealistic and mean I've been to myself. Overtime I've found myself doing a bit more each day because its human to innovate! Lastly, hang in there! I can see that you're trying your best, and you want more for yourself but if I've learned anything from my own depression, right now what you need is your own support. Doing the bare minimum when you're in a dark place is hard, and moving through depression and anxiety is never given the appreciation its warranted,

i dont have anxiety issues but there are always one week in a month where i dont wanna talk to people and be with myself. those are days when people think you are depressed but its not and me thinking abt their assumptions abt me definitely worries me, and what i do : i watch movies and series tons of them and just forget about ongoing situation in my life and enjoy the onscreen happenings and bts. after 2 or 3 days, i am back to normal and start chit chatting with everyone. Movies have been real help to not fall in lone depressive world but communicate my brain with so much stuff and learn new things in the world. So, if u have anxiety or any such issues watch good movies even emotional ones, backed with great lessons that will make your worries small and force you to deal with ur life. loads of love from Nepal. reese

So sorry you're struggling so much with anxiety. Mine is fueled by my PCOS. What has helped me is decreasing the caffeine (i.e. caffeine coffee 2x per week, the rest is decaf) - this actually helped me the most. Then, eating foods that don't spike your blood sugar as much like protein, healthy fat as well as eating in a specific order (veggies first, then protein/fats, save the carbs for last, including dessert). Im not perfect and I don't do this all the time, but when I do, my anxiety like doesn't even exist anymore.
