Actually the new science shows cholesterol is very important to our health. There is no such thing as high cholesterol. If a doctor tells you this or tells you to get on a statin run! I am 58 used to be a vegan for years! I developed many autoimmune diseases in my early fifties. Found a great doctor who told me I was malnourished and need quality animal nutrition. I now eat grass fed meat, bone broth, some veggies, ones low in oxalates. I eat very little dairy but if I do it’s raw grass fed. I eat real eggs and cook with lard and tallow. I reversed my autoimmune diseases and take my food like it’s medicine. To each their own.

I eat a very similar diet and it’s not any more or less expensive than my previous diet. I, too, had autoimmune issues so not having doctor bills now is a huge help. But, what is really important is how full you can get on very little when you eat foods so high in protein and fat.

Dr. Gabriella Lynn’s is a protein expert. You might look her up on you tube. As we get older our protein needs go up in order maintain and increase skeletal muscle mass. The gms you sited are likely the minimum RDA to prevent low protein related disease. Dr. Lyons actually recommends 1gm per lb of ideal body weight per day in divided doses to help maintain strength and function as we age. Quality of protein also matters and must include the rec Amy’s of essential amino acids. Not all protein is created equal. Most food labels don’t include the amino acid breakdown

If your cholesterol is rising, it could be that your estradiol levels are low. I was eating the same and staying fit but my LDL and triglycerides kept going up. Since starting HRT, my levels are improving. Estrogen is so essential for women's health throughout our lives and it's so often overlooked, focusing instead on just our diet. Menopause Taylor has a KZbin channel and is a wealth of information!

U are exactly right! Plummeting hormones wreaks havoc on our labs. My cholesterol went down as soon as I got on bioidenticals. Just progesterone and testosterone at first, then estradiol added when I needed it. Same for men. My husband has lower cholesterol from testosterone and DHEA..

I am on anastrazole and my cholesterol has improved instead of getting worse because I have changed my diet and am eating healthy. Anastrazole is an aromatase inhibitor (strips you of most all your estrogen). My lack of estrogen should make my cholesterol go up but it has not. The reason: I exercise every day, I eat meats, organic veggies, dairy products and eggs, nuts, berries….. but NO sugar, no white flour, no processed foods and my body feels 20 years younger. I’m posting to show that even if you cannot increase estrogen (like me because I had estrogen positive breast cancer), you can still improve your health and cholesterol by making dietary changes. Did I eliminate eggs no….. my high cholesterol I used to have was because of the high carb diet I ate, along with eating processed foods.

A study from Harvard does indicate that 1 egg yolk is equivalent to more than have of the recommended allowance of cholesterol p/day, while a Mayo Clinic paper indicates that eating it may not raise cholesterol as it is not as high in saturated fat as other foods foods. I believe that’s why she says it’s what works for her. It may not be what other people want to do.

The whole cholesterol thing is such a myth. The doctors go by what the pharmaceutical companies tell them. Cholesterol is not good for the brain. It’s always good to look at your ratio also. If you eat good fats that will raise them but that doesn’t mean you’re going to have a heart attack sooner. You need to watch out for your triglycerides and blood pressure, but don’t worry about eating foods, high and cholesterol, if they are healthy. Eggs are extremely healthy! It’s like one of the perfect foods after grass fed beef, liver, or any meat .

May I suggest you do more research into the lack of harm and indeed even positive benefits coming to light ( actually now well known) regarding cholesterol. Not every doctor follows this thinking, but more and more have adopted it! Be willing to see your health from a different perspective . Just check out both views on cholesterol and search out the compelling studies, and then make up your own mind. I applaud your desire and willingness to strive for better health. What works for one does not always work for another. I eat about as different from you as one could… a VERY high animal based diet, and in so doing, have seen amazing improvements in my health. I think the key is being open minded to voices we are not accustomed to following as well as those we have followed. Doing our own research and going from there. I do not doubt for one minute that the two of us are ever striving to improve our health! We are probably more aligned regarding exercise! But I very much agree with what I am learning from Dr. Gabrielle Lyons (she’s on KZbin) regarding much higher protein intake plus the true quality of our protein as we age, along with muscle strengthening exercises as we age. There is much science backing up these recommendations. The good news is we all get to learn as much as care to and we all get to choose the path we go down. The best of health and aging to you , Angela!

I think you eat a very healthy diet. And kudos for doing that. I respect you a lot, I just wanted to give you some extra “food for thought”. From the cardiologists and other doctors I follow I have learned there is a lot more to the cholesterol factor than we initially learned. Actually high triglycerides are more closely linked to carbs in one’s diet and cardiovascular disease. Trigs and VLDL are the ones you want to keep low according to the extensive new research. Total cholesterol is no longer the number to watch and maybe not even LDL. Eating animal fats may slightly increase total cholesterol, but they will also raise HDL and this is an extremely good thing. How to calculate one’s VLDL: TC-(LDL+HDL)=VLDL optimum is >15. Your numbers are probably good. I’ve had two CAC (calcium Artery Coronary Scans) because I wanted to make sure my heart is healthy after starting my health journey. Both were zero and were 3 yrs apart. I also removed spots off my liver on the second one. Having healthy meats and eggs in one’s diet is not the villain it has been made out to be. I too follow Gabrielle Lyon and others like her to increase my muscle mass. I’m 62 and take care of my mom who is almost 102. I have seen first hand what sarcopenia does to one. My experience has helped me learn our muscles, bones, and especially our hearts NEED animal protein (complete amino acid profiles). I am more fit now than I was in my 30s and have longer lasting energy than my 20 and 22 year old children.

What a wonderful video! I'm 10 years older than you are, vegetarian since 1986 and plant-based since 2017. My husband and I are healthy because of our food and fitness choices. We watched as our friends packed on the weight over the past 3 years - while we both lost a little. We also go to the gym several times a week and I do Pilates and yoga. For cardio, I completely recommend jumping rope. If I can jump rope at age 62, anyone who's approved by their healthcare provider can do it! It's so much fun! You'll feel like a kid again when you jump rope.

I agree -- so much better to eat whole, real food with high nutrient density over the fake meat and egg beaters. The yolk is the most nutrient rich part of the egg and considered a nearly perfect food. Egg beaters has to add synthetic vitamins and minerals back in to their products, along with color to replace what is lost by removing the yolk.

Not for nothing, but i was also diagnosed with a breast cancer and I believe that plant estrogens aka “phyto-estrogens,” are not nearly as distributive to our hormones as mammalian estrogens found in animals, and their secretion aka “birthing fluid.” In fact, the phytoestrogens are protective against cancer, if anything.

Dear Anjela. Dietician here. Your diet looks rather healthy overall, but I would not shy away from animal protein as much as you are trying to. If you are concerned with colesterol, make sure you get enough soluble fiber. Increasing fiber makes a real difference, while decreasing dietary cholesterol produces very small results. 50 grams of protein is barely enough for a woman in her fifties. My suggestion is to incorporate more protein and reconsider animal protein sources like hard cheese, chicken, turkey, fish, cottage cheese (if you tolerate lactose), pork or beef twice a week. If your gut can handle beans and lentils, make sure you add some to your salads to increase protein content as well. Consider adding a tablespoon of peanut butter to your smoothie - also a good source of plant-based protein. For staying strong, flexible, fit as one ages the focus should be protein and fiber, movement and, most importantly good quality sleep. I love your waking up routine! Just sitting sipping coffee (I am a tea person, so do it with a mug of tea) and breathing in the morning is great. Supplements and HRT is absolutely worth looking into to remain in great health

Hi Angela, love your channel, but I have to tell you, from someone who has a degree in Science ... A human being is made up of protein and fat. Protein satisfies your stomach and fat satisfies your brain. Cholesterol is an innocent bystander. As long as your triglycerides are ok. So far I see that you have carb and sugar overload. And you don't have to overweight to be unhealthy. Just a thought. I personally know Cardiologist who are strict Carnivores. Like I said, just a thought.

I do not have access to a gym so that is not an option for me. I put on a KZbin channel everyday on my tv and start walking and I do this for 30 minutes 5 days a week. We all do what works best for us in the climate we live.

I picked some of your items to add to my smoothie, and the egg whites are so good with that seasoning. However, you would think the US and especially her government wouldn't have such high prices in order to eat, stay healthy. I'm shocked at the expense of eating healthy.

I did keto for a while lost 35lbs easily. Now I eat 2 meals a day. I grind my organic coffee beans in the morning. Eat a low carb, high protein and moderate healthy fats. I did exercise every other day at home during Covid. I now go to the gym and do weights and walk regularly. I allow occasional cheats when we go out, glass of wine, a bite of hubbys dessert of wedding cake. I love preparing a healthy whole food meals, we have a veggies. And you need to do your homework on cholesterol, they aren’t the villain and you are missing out on the healthy yokes. You actually need much more than protein than that, I do 100 grams!

Do you consume artificial sweeteners? I cut out animal products for a year and my cholesterol didn't budge. I decided to cut out artificial sweeteners and my cholesterol went down after years of elevated levels. I was a huge consumer of zero calorie sweeteners and candies for years. My cholesterol is finally normal after a couple of decades. Surprised for sure!
