Welcome to a what I eat in the day video. This is just a peek into my starting point of learning to have a healthier relationship with food and the start of my journey.
Welcome to A Peek Inside. My name is Darlene and I have been happily married for over 25 years with two amazing children and two handsome pups. I've been doing KZbin since 2016 but decided to have a fresh start in 2024. My focus now is giving a little peek into my journey as a woman that was a military spouse, stay at home mom and homemaker that enjoyed those years but many of those things have changed with my husband's retirement and the children getting older and I am feeling a little lost. I am taking the time to focus on myself to make my health a priority so I can be around to enjoy the beautiful life and family that my husband and I created.
These are two women sharing their journey.

That’s a GREAT goal with the capris, you’ve got this, if we slip or even fall flat on our face, all we can do is get up, brush off and move forward… if I could encourage you to move, be more active today than yesterday, you will soon make better food choices to fuel your body… I’ve started on a new journey and I’m sharing it publicly, I may fail, but, I may also succeed… 😊😊😊 Cheering you on sweet girl… ❤❤❤

You are on the right path Darlene... it is a process. one step at a time..I think you are doing right..slow and steady as trying to change it all at once is to daunting..remember we didn't start all these eating habits at once. We need to set ourselves up for success !! Praying for all those like us trying to make doable lifestyle changes. Have a fantastic week. ❤

So very grateful to have found channel today. Your vulnerability is amazing to see! I’ve struggled with my weight/eating for about the last 10 years. I started weight watchers back in December along with working out a few days a week and I’m so happy to finally feel good about myself. Please keep up the great work and continue to share your journey. We’re listening 😊

🙏🏽🖤I wish you the best on this journey. I hope you don’t beat yourself up if you have a down day. I think it would be very beneficial to you if you took vitamins and did a weekly walk/exercise routine. Nothing major. I’m soon 51 and it has helped me a lot. Luv and hugs to you🙏🏽🖤☕️

I do fine all day until the evening. Two hours after dinner I want to snack. I’m not even hungry but I want junk food. The more I think about doing better the more I eat. It’s a struggle for sure. Thank you for sharing your journey. It gives me encouragement too.

I'm on the same road, Darlene. Also turning 50 in October. Been the biggest/tallest everywhere my entire life. I'm still working on it. One thing I heard you explain was the guilt and shame you felt. I personally am at a point where I refuse to attach my self worth to my size or looks. I've spent far too long doing that and it's taken a toll on me, my relationships, and my overall life. Being overweight is not a moral failure deserving of punishment. I'm very passionate about this but I'll spare you a novel in the comments lol. Thanks for sharing your journey!

I am at home most days. I find being in the house all day, makes it more difficult not to snack throughout the day. I was thinking when I hear you say 3-4 p.m. is difficult, maybe get outside around that time, either for a walk or gardening when the weather gets nicer, so it distracts you from wanting to eat. This way you don’t need to manage that hour. I do think, to actually lose weight and keep it off it takes a lot of effort. About 15 yrs ago I lost 50 lbs. walking 6 kms every day, rain or snow even and eating better. I have kept it off and am now 63. At night I watch t.v. but I try to exercise every evening while doing that. I do stretching, weights etc., for about 30 mins. stopping whenever I want because I really hate exercising. I find little changes that I do consistently make a difference. Because I am a list maker, I keep track of every day I exercise so that keeps me motivated and makes me want to keep checking the days off. It’s like a pat on the back that I am doing it. I am sure you are getting all sorts of advice but maybe you can pick things out that will work for you from all the suggestions. Everyday of doing something, is an improvement. I’m with you on this, Darlene!

the G Hughes BBQ sauce is amazing! also the yum yum sauce in that brand is wonderful on anything asian meals. thank you for sharing. I am 52 and I am short and round. I have been way overweight forever. Now is my time to take care of me. I am addicted to food and I love cooking comfort food. when our kids and grandchildren are here, there are 11 of us and I cook a lot of food. We are together several times a week. Food is our love language. BUT for whatever reason, I am the only one who is fat. LOL. With saying all of that, you have given me somewhere, realistically, to start. Thank you.

I can certainly understand your challenges with eating and losing weight. It is a constant struggle that only a few of us can understand. I did read a book years ago called Intuitive Eating and it has helped me understand things more. I know the more i restrict myself with eating certain food the more i want it. And like you i am focusing on eating enough protein at each meal. It really does help. It's really is great that you are sharing this because there are many that can relate.

Great start Darlene! I have found that sipping on protein waterthroughout the day helps me tremendously. Cottage cheese with diced cup of pears, low sugar yogurt with keto granola and hard boiled eggs are my daily staples for snacks. Increasing protein to 100 grams daily has been the only thing that has worked for me with maintaining a 50 pound loss- that and lots of low carb veggies. You got this!!!!! 😊

The only way is to loose weight is to do the oposite: stay away from the carbs. 1. On the plate keep nothing but protein and some small salad 2. Stop thinking about the food because you going to have 2 meals a day 3. ... and finaly 5km walk every day, if you cannot then work on it

❤ great food choices! I've managed to lose 65 pounds by doing that and intermittent fasting (14 hours a day) also, walking and moderate exercise has helped me, eating fewer carbs, hot veggies are filling. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your day 🎉😊

Water(Excellent), sugar free( cause you to gain weight), try lettuce free salads(we have a bunch we love), if you are out and don’t want fast food. Hit the grocery store. Single serve items. Salads, yogurt, cottage cheese, snack packs with cheese nuts olives. Mediterranean diet also good!

I’ve had the weight loss surgery 9 years ago and I’m also currently taking Victoza (similar to ozempic, but I’m also diabetic). Just went in for my most recent a1c check last week and it was 5.8. It’s stayed under 6.0 since my surgery, which I’m thankful, but I know I have to work more at losing the weight. I’ve lost weight 100 pounds since March of 2021 with mainly watching what I eat and know what I *should* be doing but sometimes bring in stuff that sabotages my plan. Currently my biggest fail is not getting out and moving but I’m also dealing with foot issues related to diabetic foot ulcers and toe amputations.

Thank you, Darlene!! This is just the kick in the butt I needed. I've been struggling with everything. Yesterday, I said enough is enough. I started a big declutter, house rearrangement, and I knew my health would be next. While watching your video, I wrote out my healthier eating game plan and walking exercise plan to get start. Tomorrow is payday AKA grocery shopping day, and I have my list. I will have to eat what I still have now, so I made my meal plan around what I have & how to make it healthier if possible. You aren't in this alone. Thank you for sharing. FYI I get 1 of each new pink & purple Bubbas when they come out. In Texas USA the Bubbas at Wal-Mart are $9.96. I love my Bubbas, pink & purple

I want to share that when I broke my ankle and toes, things got chunky for me at an age where it’s not easy to take it back off. First, people come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. A person decides when they feel uncomfortable, in my opinion. For me, less sugars was key. Always more movement. I’m not a slender human. I like my features, now. We are of a generation of a LOT of expectations put on girls and women. We raise better people and must be kind to ourselves and accept all the wonderful sizes and differences in us all. P.S. the capris I had at that time are now helping someone else. They were my goalpost too!

You got this! I'm liking your approach and I'm on a similar journey. Getting older...56...I see where my food choices make a BIG difference. I find having a handful of unsalted mixed nuts really help with that in between meal hunger and holds me over until the next meal. Small steps forward become a new normal...keep up the good work!

The one thing that has helped me was to not restrict myself from any type of food . Instead I work on portion control. I drink my daily goal of H2O. Get you a water bottle and make it your new best friend😂. I love my bubba! I do not have a step goal instead I just try to keep moving. I do my daily chores and go outside for a little. I journal! I have a morning prayer/ devotional. Most important! Love yourself daily! And yes COFFEE! 😂😂😂a must!

I hear you when you talk about the salads - I only have a salad every other day. The alternate day, I make an all exclusive vegetable soup- I opt first for the mirepois (carrots, onions and celery, then I had frozen green beans, frozen kale and frozen peas and there’s an excellent way to eat your greens. I add 1/2 chicken sandwich for my protein and low cal carb. Enjoy! By the way,I call my journey to clean eating - SELF LOVE ❤️

When you said at the end, "This is my journey," with a voice full of emotion, conviction and hope, I teared up with you. I'm totally behind you, Darlene...I relate and understand completely. I think you're off to a very strong start, focusing on protein, looking for substitutions, sustainability and trying NOT to over think the whole process. I'm glad you have put the idea of surgery on the back burner for now...with your strong mindset and determination, I know you can do this on your own! All the food you prepared looked amazing, especially the chicken "fast food" salad and burger bowls! I need to start adding some cabbage to my salads, too, for the crunch factor. I'm looking forward to you modeling your inspiration capris one day very soon this summer...you have inspired me so much, friend, and I thank you! xo

P.S. I recently discovered a very low carb brand of chicken nuggets I wanted to bring to your attention! It's called, "Real Good lightly breaded chicken nuggets." Most of the carbs in standard nuggets are in the coating, but this brand has made the breading with lower carb ingredients! So far, the only place I have found them is Walmart. You might want to give them a look? And I discovered to my surprise that the meat is real and uncooked, so they taste so fresh and delicious!
