Welcome to A Peek Inside. My name is Darlene and I have been happily married for over 25 years with two amazing children and two handsome pups. I've been doing KZbin since 2016 but decided to have a fresh start in 2024. My focus now is giving a little peek into my journey as a woman that was a military spouse, stay at home mom and homemaker that enjoyed those years but many of those things have changed with my husband's retirement and the children getting older and I am feeling a little lost. I am taking the time to focus on myself to make my health a priority so I can be around to enjoy the beautiful life and family that my husband and I created.
Thank you for helping build this community on my little channel and I hope you are excited to follow along as I give a little "PEEK" in this journey of mine.

You reminded me I need to write down what I eat in a day. It helps me to realize exactly what I am eating and how I feel. Thank you for the reminder. I also have to have carbs.

Thank you Darlene, this has been very helpful to me. The las time I lost weight was 10 years ago. I started gaining weight about 5 years ago when we moved and the weather and food was very different. Your ideas give me hope that I can do it again. At 68 I know it will be a lot harder, but I liked what you said about being kind to yourself.

I eat carbs and I won’t stop cause then I will really fail on my journey. Everyone has their own journey and the way they walk it. 3 ounces of pasta is right for me too. I have 3 ounce servings in small containers . Pre measured works for me😊. I don’t like brown rice so I just eat white rice. I just decided to eat the rice I like instead of settling for something I won’t really enjoy. Darlene you are doing wonderful!

🙌🏻😁 celebrating with you Darlene ❤we lost our beagle this week , she would have been 14 in June , it’s good to see your” supervisors” and I remember Charlie fondly ❤ have a great day !

Good job, Darlene! Everything you showed looked very good and healthy. I've never eaten cottage cheese but when you talked about blending it up, that sounded kinda good so I may try it!

Just gonna throw my two cents in here then I’ll be broke, lol… Maybe focus on being active not so much about the foods, I feel once we become active or more active daily we tend to make healthier food choices throughout the day too, set out to be active 21 days straight… ❤❤❤

Totally agree. I am so glad the weather is getting nice. I am outside working on my yard anytime I’m not working. Not only is my body showing results but my yard is too!😂 It’s s’thing hubby and I love to do together and are proud of.

A friend of mine started writing down what she eats every day and she lost 50 pounds and has kept it off for 15 years ! I love eggbeaters or egg whites even for my dinner. I also have coffee for breakfast and eat around lunchtime. I find the sugar free stuff is very addictive and I still crave the sugar so I stay away from it. I’m going to get a pork tenderloin out of the freezer right now lol ! You have to eat carbs my friends that are in the gym every day eat carbs and are slim and healthy . I take a 16 ounce bottle of cold water and a can of cold sprite and pour it over ice and it’s so good and not as sweet . I gave up coke years ago and I don’t miss it . Thank you ! You got this ! 🐾🦴🐾

@@APeekInside I can't seem to find anything alternative that I like.. My go to was peppermint mocha and Carmel mochioto and french vanilla.. 😟

@@teresalittrell5791 Some people use the Silk brand that is almond milk. Not sure if they better ingredients. I will probably go back to cream and maybe one sugar.

Focusing on a healthy relationship with food is how to develop a sustainable healthy lifestyle, and writing things down to be accountable to yourself were great reminders to me. Thanks for sharing your journey and insights. And kudos on your amazing progress, Darlene!

Darlene, you look great. Love your longer hair. Protein is important. What I've been told is what ever weight you desire to be eat that many grams of protein. For instance you wish to weigh 140 pounds eat 140 grams protein a day. You eat a lot of good complex carbs as in veggies and fruits.no fast sugar..or white bread and carbs. I lost 100 pounds over 5 years doing the same. It's kind of like diabetic diet. I'm not a dietician either. We do what works. Live our lives. All things in moderation.You are doing great!!❤

You're doing great! Your dinner loozed delicious! I'm pre-diabetic, so I need to watch my carbs a little bit. So I'm with you, I might have dressing or the potatoes or half of a serving of each, if I really want both. I know I will never go no carb, but I can pick and choose what I want for my carbs and just watch my portion.

Hurray for your non-scale victories, like less brain fog, and almost fitting into you inspiration capris! I'm so glad you're being gentle with yourself, and giving yourself grace...guilt is a derailer, for sure, and counter productive. So glad you were able to disregard it and just move forward, knowing that the important thing is the long haul!

I need to lose weight and I find I need to eat everthing in moderation too. You are right about not having something for a while and you actually enjoy the taste! I have also found that if I don't like a food I just don't eat it. I don't want waste my calories! Congratulations on your progress! Have a great day!

This was brilliant you are really getting to know your body I never thought that I would crave a salad over some cookies but one day it happened and it shocked me I remember one time I was in the store and I saw a Kit Kat bar so I got 1 as a treat for myself and later that night I took a bite out of it and I kid you not I felt like my head was spinning 😵‍💫 so when people say you can be addicted to sugar it is true I never though that could be me but I realized it’s true because it happened to me I couldn’t eat the Kit Kat bar because the taste of it had changed to me and for once I knew the difference 🤷🏾‍♀️am I perfect NO but step by step I’m getting to understand and know my body better each day ❤

You don’t need so much protein Darlene. You are going to tax your kidneys by overdoing it. Better to focus on eating lots of whole fruits and vegetables and *healthy* carbs, with a just small amount of healthy fats (ie nuts, seeds, avocado) too. If you have never seen the documentaries “What The Health”, or “Forks Over Knives” I highly suggest them, you’ll get a lot of wonderful information on healthy eating! You can watch the trailers for them on KZbin.

Oof... I would disagree with this comment 110%... I've had four babies, when I need to slim down I hammer the proteins and fats (and not nut fats), animal fats (butter, full fat cheese, lard, sour cream..) I also do not eat fruit, sweeteners or carbs!!! I can feel the spike in my blood sugar and it makes me feel sooo tired... And rarely do I buy vegetables (I just don't see the point). I eat what comes from the garden in summer, but that's really it. Basically I consume the carnivore diet, that way I don't have to worry about what I eat. Love your videos, but it's gotta be brutal reading through the comments. Food is something that people are sooo opinionated about. #MyOwnComment 😅 Keep up the great work!!

You look so much more happier, Darlene. Back in the day I was dieting when calorie counting was the thing. To this day I cannot eat a piece of bread or cheese without the number of calories coming to my mind. It’s like I have been brainwashed. Now, I try to ignore all that and just try to eat healthier. My big issue is portion control. I am a big eater. I try to have seconds of vegetables instead of the starches. It doesn’t always work but I keep trying. I am so glad to see you trying to get healthier and happier. I eat for emotional reasons sometime and a friend told me this saying…it’s not what you are eating, it’s what’s eating you, if you know what I mean. If I deal with an issue, I won’t have to try to eat my feelings away or stuff it down. “Food” for thought. Lol
