Isn’t the point to feel hungry and not satiated so we can empathize with the poor, experience and comprehend the necessity and blessing of food given to us by Allah and let go of our worldly desires temporarily for the sake of Allah.

The main point in fasting is not empathize with the poor. It is to get Taqwa, God Consciousness or Mindfulness. You can read in Surah Al Baqarah Verse 183
