I get the 'you're actually hungry, so lets make you SUPER nauseous so you totally don't know if this meal is going to make you feel better or vomit all over the place' kinda nausea. Neato! Since I have gotten older, throwing up in my mouth is a thing. I was at an off leash park and a large dog drooled on my arm. I *tried* to be cool about it, but when I went to wipe it off, I got instant nausea and threw up in my mouth. Anything can trigger it, motion, offending smells, concern (like going into large box stores). Not gonna lie. It annoys me a lot, so you must be a magical human for being able to cope so well! 💜

Tanya Van Stone I relate to what you said so much! I have a very strong sense of smell and bad smells can trigger my nausea in an instant. And I also baby barf often. I carry a Queasy pen and peppermint beadlets with me everywhere to combat it.

I'm so glad other people get this too! I'm basically never sick, as in throwing up, but certain foods will trigger me and I'll throw up in my mouth or I'll feel an acidic burning in the back of my throat. Sometimes I wish I could throw it up, because better out than in... I'm thankful though that it's not the main symptom I deal with

you've got illness and nausea and fatigue and everything, and you've cooked, done your hair and makeup, tidied, and filmed two videos. I'm in a bad depression cycle and I barely managed to get out of bed today. I try not to blame myself, because it's my disability that makes me a useless lump, it's not my choice and I'm doing my best, but it's hard, especially when someone who has it so much worse can do so much with a day. ugh. i know everyone says you can't compare yourself with others, but ughhhh. (i'm sorry if this was rude.)

Hello my darling, please please please don't compare yourself to what I'm able to do on a day like this. This level of illness is just a manageable, normal level for me it isn't an especially bad day. On my really bad days I can't move or speak so I can't hold a camera and film- although I would like to be able to show you that too. I promise you're not a 'useless lump'; this dark period does not define you and you will go on to do many wonderful things. We're both trying our hardest and that is what's important. Please know that you are not alone. I'm sending you warmth and love and I hope things get brighter for you soon xxx

I've been going through a rough period with my chronic conditions for several months and I've been struggling so much with food and eating. Even the simple batch cooking I've learnt to rely on has been difficult, and accepting the need to scale back my expectations of myself and go back to pre-prepared food, particularly things I can keep in the cupboard as there's a lack of freezer space in my current living situation, is an ongoing process, let's say. The mantra of it being better to eat something than nothing is definitely a useful one!

Words can not express how much your videos mean to me. Especially this one, this has been one of my biggest issues, and has also been worse lately. I basically couldn’t eat for a week. Basically everything that I can eat is fruit. Doctors always try to give me crap for my diet during these times when I’m literally just trying to find anything my body can keep down. Even just enough to be able to take my meds without throwing those up. Thank you ❤️

Thank you so much for this video. I have lupus and deal with nausea frequently. Your message at the beginning about all that matters is you eating, doesn’t matter what it is, resonated. I have worked in nutrition, fitness, and wellness for years and used to get so stressed on sick days because I knew I wasn’t eating “right”. I have since learned to just take those days for what they are, just a day, one of many days that I am able to eat much healthier than when everything makes me sick. Thanks for the confirmation to just eat what sounds good, it is good to not feel alone.

I have severe M.E. & am bed bound. I eat when I am brought food. My wife is also ill &, if she's too ill to bring food, we both go hungry. As her health is deteriorating rapidly, we've lost a lot of weight & both have several nutritional deficiencies. The local council assessed us as needing 1.5 hours of care per day which they'll fund, but our last provider could no longer supply the staff after our main support assistant left. She'd been with us for 4 years & was fantastic. We knew she would leave at some point as she was working whilst doing a degree then a Masters & she got a job as an Occupational Therapist. We miss her but wish her all the best. She was a great young woman. We've been trying to find a replacement care company for almost 3 years but there's no vacancies. We've been told we can have all 10.5 hours in a single day but that's no good. We're currently advertising to employ a support assistant directly which we didn't want to do. Neither of us are well enough to do all the paperwork, but we've no option now. The care sector is poorly underfunded & badly paid. They are essential to so many sick & disabled people but the government doesn't value them. For nausea, can I recommend peppermint or ginger tea? Also you could rub some peppermint essential oil (mixed with a carrier of oil or neat if your skin can handle it, like mine) onto your stomach. After about 30 seconds it will start to pleasantly burn & that's when the nausea starts to go. Both the tea & the oil always help me. When I'm nauseous but too hungry to not eat, or even after I've vomited but need to eat, I'll have some rice added to a warmed Knorr stock pot & some water, making a broth with a bit of bite to it. That is gentle on your stomach but helps your electrolytes if you've been vomiting a lot.

This diet also works for mental illness days! I get horrible depressive fits that last 2-3 days. It's all I can do just to get to the kitchen, let alone make something to eat. Fresh or frozen fruit doesn't require effort that I don't have. But some times I eat a bag of crisps. It doesn't matter as long as you eat something. Thank you for sharing such an intimate subject with us, even while ill.

My stomach pain and nausea have been something I have struggled with my whole life, and I usually just let the nausea win and take a nap or lay down for a while and then IF I'm feeling hungry and my nausea has calmed down then just maybe I will get something in. FOR NAUSEA: i constantly have nausea from a whole host of either my conditions or medications, and i find that anything ginger based works (including ginger beer in an absolute pinch, don’t ask - but you can do a hot ginger tea!) and you can be prescribed metoproclamide, which i currently have in my own med boxes/drawers, which is an anti-emetic that’s super effective and has always worked pretty well ime including for like heavy morphine induced nausea, 240mg+ per day dihydrocodeine induced nausea etc etc - annnd if you can’t swallow a tablet (because nausea, of course) i believe they can prescribe you oral disintegrating tablets! could potentially save you a visit to A&E if worst comes to worst! (i know it’s maybe weird that i’m back here but i haven’t seen all of your videos so i’m bouncing around because algorithm and i had to suggest, as i’ve experienced this exact problem and wanted to offer a potential remedy whilst also keeping in mind you’ve likely tried many things over the years just as i had! worth a shot though, as these things rarely go away.)

Pickles are my number one anti-nausea food. Once I get to the I'm hungry but I may still be sick stage I usually go for starchy things like oatmeal or anything made from potatoes/sweet potatoes. And my general go-to when I'm not up to making a proper meal (but not necessarily when nauseated) is a smoothie with banana, berries and peanut butter.

I was really nauseous a few weeks ago and all I craved was carbs (I'm not usually a massive carb eater). I have a dietitian and she said that its normal for your body to want carbs when you're sick as it absorbed water in your stomach and helps prevent projectile vomiting. So go go with the sweet potato wedges! I totally agree with you RE if all you wanna eat is junk food - do it. It's probably you body telling you what you need on a cellular level.

I was very sick during pregnancy, and found toast with a scrape of butter worked. Fast forward twenty odd years, and a diagnosis of Coeliac Disease. My new go-to foods when I am feeling nauseated, have a migraine, or my guts are screaming are: white rice, plain chicken in tiny bits, peas, corn and carrots diced very finely. These are the things my body says "Yes, safe". And Coke. Coke is a great way to calm things down.

I had exhausted myself the day before trying to do too many errands. And I felt guilty because I ate cereal bars, strawberries, and a LOT of gummy bears. First time I went I got diagnosed with a water infection and given some antibiotics and they worked for a few days but then the pain got even worse and i had to go back up and they were pretty worried and almost admitted me into the hospital. Ended up spending the next day in a&e but a sort of off the side part of a&e were it wasn’t resus and it wasn’t in the main part of the waiting room where they did multiple blood sugar tests because I had gone to the doctor earlier that day and my heart rate had really gone up and the pain was bad so he immediately sent me up there. Multiple blood tests, multiple blood sugar tests, multiple blood pressure tests and finally some painkillers. They were meant to send me to get an ultrasound to see what was causing the pain, but that was never sorted out. I was even seen by a surgical consultant as the pain was so bad they thought something was rather wrong. They ended up giving me morphine which made me incredibly itchy and didn’t really help too much with pain. They wanted me to do a urine sample but at the same time I had to be nil by mouth and they wouldn’t put a catheter in my hand in case the SC needed to do something. Had a whole lot of fun with that, times were I could barely walk, every noise was too much and I spent most of my time with headphones on to quiet the noises, always felt nauseous beyond belief, rarely ate but had problems at the other end. The only thing my mum could get me to eat was Nutella, banana and sugar on white bread and all I would drink was water. They still don’t know what is still causing me this pain but jess is right when she says that when your body is ill feed it what it wants don’t feed it something it doesn’t and I listened to what my body wanted and it wanted those sandwiches because it was the only thing that didn’t make me feel nauseous. So yeah end of story

Your video put such a smile on my face. I also like to do a vintage/pin-up style, and have multiple chronic illnesses. The pain and nausea have been kicking my butt the past few days, and haven't been able to leave the house. Thank goodness for grocery delivery and being able to buy pre-cut vegetables. Making a root vegetable and chicken soup that will last me for days :).

It's interesting what works for different people on sick days. I have a really bad digestive system, on my bad days I can only tolerate slow release carbs, like brown rice and potatoes. I also have plain coke to settle my stomach.

Thank you for the warning :) I'm very sensitive and I get anxiety thinking about being sick, somebody being sick hearing about being sick, so that was helpful :)

It was cute when Claudia waved to us after she came back from work

Watched this during a sick day. Just put grapes in the freezer. Can’t wait! I haven’t even been able to keep down water but I’m trying ice chips and maybe protein powder later. Or, some fruit. Good tips, Jessica. Thanks.

My nausea safe foods are ramen noodles and applesauce on saltine crackers. I'm definitely going to try the frozen grapes! Also, your engagement ring is so lovely! ❄️❤️

Today I️ watched this and your nausea hacks video. I️ never would have thought of eating my protein powder plain. Thanks. Also you mentioned protecting your teeth a few times. Would you be willing to do something on oral care with severe reflux and chronic vomiting? If you already have - ooops. Could someone please point me to it?

Intuitive eating is the best in general I think. “What does my body need?” Is what I ask a lot of the time.

Ooooo! The protein powder makes sense to me now! The more 🤢 I feel, the more saliva my mouth produces until it is a geyser I have to constantly swallow or I WILL throw up. Can’t even spit the nasty out. Then I am guaranteed to 🤮. The powder... does it help soak up the prep barf saliva? I must try this now! .... there should be protein powder without dairy in it somewhere! You are such a stomachache saver!

I wore elastic wristbands with little pressure bumps, Seabands, while pregnant. They didn't eliminate nausea but they sure took the edge off.

Tea, lots of it. Particularly peppermint or ginger tea. Oh, and nice hot chicken broth in a mug. A small handful of chicken bits from a rotisserie bird and maybe a raw baby carrot or two eaten VERY slowly. Those are my sick day go tos. Though I don't vomit. Food sits in my stomach like a lead weight and my intestines churn and stab and bloat. Good times. You looked absolutely spot on all day, by the way. That nightie was beautiful.

I am like you and I have had absolutely no luck with the anti nausea pills but I am having the BEST luck with scopolamine patches for nausea. They were made for motion sickness but they work for all kinds of nausea! I am so so so thankful. No needles needed!

One of my biggest nauseous food is fries. But they can't be too salty or too plain so I mostly get them from a place that is thankfully close too my house. I've found honestly I just can't really handle meat when I'm feeling ill, and so I end up eating a lot of fries and celery. Also Diet Coke helps me with my nausea so much! Thankfully my school has plenty of vending machines with Diet Coke so that helps me a lot at school so I don't get too nauseous and I then don't have to go home and miss school.
