I loved the part where you showed the Wednesday lunch just for yourself and explained why it was wouldn’t be a suitable meal for your sons but great for you at this stage of life. I often look at the Japanese-style meals and think how the portions are so small (we are a half Australia half Hong Kong family in Australia!), but your explanation helped me see it will just depend on whoever the meal is prepared for.

*It's the fermented onion stuff!* 🤩 It's amazing that you use it in place of bullion!! How would you describe the taste? Is it tangy? Or maybe slightly sweet? And do you ever use it as part of home-made dressing?

It tastes slightly sweet and a bit pangent. Yes, we can make a dressing out of it too! just simply add soy sauce , oil and black pepper!

Sorry haven't had time to watch last video. It has been so crazy busy. Because of that I'm glad I have a meal plan right now but the prep is lagging behind :( I do try to make some pickled veggies the next few days and I'm happy warmer weather is finally here so we can have more salads and such. Those are quick and easy to make. ANd am looking forward to making nanban zuke again. I always make that when it gets warmer. I have the same; I eat a small amunt but my 9 year old daughter eats as much as her father.

Everything looked delicious and was prepared with care. I do hope that your sons are encouraged to thank you for nice meals, offer compliments when appropriate and that they learn to help clean up after a meal. Their future wives will be much happier if your boys learn to respect a woman's time and effort in the kitchen. :-)

Or better yet, they can learn the art of cooking as well and be equal contributors to their future spouses or just for themselves instead of conditioning them that their role is to expect someone else to cook for them.
