I'd recommend checking forageplus out as grass and forage is actually very high in antagonistic minerals manganese and iron, which inhibits the absorption of copper and zinc, along with a lot of other minerals, and iron is very very bad for the horse - it is very rare for a horse to be deficient, and almost all are having too much every day. Forageplus has no fillers and is perfectly balanced to forage (they've done loads of mineral analyses from throughout the UK and have produced an average) I'm not sponsored or anything haha I'm just recommending this company to people as it's such a good company and you seem very passionate about feeds ☺️

My friend has been feeding her horses molasses. I've tried to say don't but on deaf ears. If I can finally convince her to stop is this a case of weening off molasses or cold turkey. Also, if you have your horse on your feeding routine do you also let them free graze good old fashioned grass. Cheers.

Hey! Awesome video, I think you're definitely on the right track! But are any of your horses getting a complete vitamin & mineral? If I were to change anything about your feeding program, as I am an equine nutrition consultant here in Canada, it would be to add a vitamin and mineral. Long-term deficiencies of trace minerals and vitamins can cause a ton of problems down the road with energy levels, hoof and hair quality, immunity, etc. Even if you're feeding the right amount of a complete feed, I've found through many diet evaluations that they are not well fortified and sometimes barely reach requirements. If you really want to cut out sugar, you could easily just feed the chaff, some beet pulp, flax and a vitamin and mineral premix (and salt!) and you would be good to go. Anyone that needs extra calories, fat is your friend. I'd be happy to chat if you have any questions regarding nutrition :)

Love your feed program. I feed grass hay and in winter a tiny bit alfalfa esp to big older horse-than to big draft crosses beet pulp soaked with alfalfa pellets vitamens lysine tumeric magnesium-epsom salt some get msm and ground flax seed-will see if I can find the linseed flakes or grind it? and also spirilina-bet that's a pretty penny-would love to feed it-will look it up on amazon-I adore every video you make-so much fun-I work hard too!!!Debra I have a chiro needle guy who advises what to give-thus the magnesium-lysine-we are low in Oregon-wish i could get chaff America is a bit behind

Thank you for being a smart feeder! I also like making my own mixes instead of complete feeds. When it comes to flax seed, doesn't it lose its nutrition after 48 hours of being ground up? Is it true and how do you get around that?

I have a bit of a kenco, and am very interested in the suprelina you are feeding! He's currently on hay, roughage and hemp hulls and proteins. I've found its the only thing that has maintained his weight with out adding energy or messing with his horomoes (he's a cryptorchid) I keep his feedings small and add more or less of the hemp protein depending on the season. A chaff such as Thunderbrooks healthy herbal chaff would be good, and forageplus balancers are very good for everything too, albeit rather expensive. The linseed is essential throughout winter.

I was looking into adding linseed to my horses feed was going to go down the root of linseed oil but the micronised linseed seem better, so zeta is 19 turning 20 this year, she’s a bit fat so trying to get it off her but that’s the reason I’ve held off adding it as I wasn’t sure if it would add more weight 😅 she doesn’t have a lot of Energy she uses most of her energy being an idiot in our warm up to get out of work 😂, any advise? At the moment she’s on Alfa-a beet, chaff, a normal pony nut mix and a turmeric & pepper supplement( that’s got loads of natural ingredients) to help her multi joint arthritis. Sorry for the huge paragraph 😂!
@hackettequine20595 жыл бұрын
Lyndsay Maxwell the linseed will add weight yes. I don’t know what’s in the mix that you feed but maybe think of simplifying her feed and working from there. Sounds like it will be training that will help her be better in the warm up rather than her feed. Happy to discuss this more if you want. Drop me a message on Facebook. @mirihackett 😊

Donkey donuts are very high in sugar and not the best nutritional source. I'd recommend cutting down as they don't have many nutritional benefits and the icing and molasses are very high in sugar
