For most of my adult life I have believed that everyone has at least one book inside their mind, the book of their own life. A person's life story may seem mundane or irrelevant, but to your decendants it would be a treasure. The artwork was a tremendous bonus to this artistic family, but simply having knowledge of their forefather's journey through life is the irreplaceable relic that can be passed on in the future. I wish I could read my Dad's book as I hardly knew him, but in writing my own book those little bits of memories can be passed on. The trick is finding time and using methods that have some permanence (one fire could have destroyed these folks' treasure!), but our computer age makes this much easier. That said, I have lost much writing to broken computers and obsolete memory storage, so must keep updating and have multiple backups in different places. To anyone that reads this comment or saw this video, I say "Go write your book!"

Many of us have used the term “in the book of life” figuratively throughout our existences. This beautiful work of art married with personal history truly is just that. What a magnificent treasure and legacy for this lucky family to have. 💓

I’m comment number 84. Wow! I’m so glad you found his journals and artworks. My passion is keeping memories in many forms. Journals. Art journals. Whatever it takes. I think I’m kind of a nut about it really. My daughter is like me. We inspire one another. We talk about how amazing and priceless it would be to find a diary or journal that a great grandparent or grandparent wrote. Wow! To get a glimpse into that life. So we’re journaling in all sorts of ways for our own future generations. Thank you so much for sharing your grandfather’s story. And you tell it in such an amazing way. I’m inspired!

Thanks for sharing!! I think the trick to this is to start journaling. The content may seem trivial, but the habit is what's really important. Do it everyday. I have an alarm that goes off at 7:45 every morning to start a journal entry. If I just start it, more will follow most of the time.I have an electronic journal that I can add KZbin videos, Article links, and pictures to. It's great to go back and see what I was thinking a year ago. May I ask what sort of materials your gramps used for his everyday journals? Was it ink washes or watercolors? What type of book did he use?

It would be great if it got published, but I guess parts of memory book are private, and that was not the intention of the journal's author. Still I would love to get my hands on it, so inspiring.

This is a sweet animation and story. I think most of us who had grandfather with whom we spent time (assuming they weren’t horrible people) we have good memories of them. But this makes me sad about something else. First of all just the fact that everyone we love will be gone. Anybody will be lucky if their loved ones do not get taken from us unexpectedly or tragically somehow. But also this made me think that the grandfather in the video had people to whom he knew he’d pass the journals. He knew someone was likely to read them or look at the drawings. Imagine now that there are many people who through no fault of their own do not have descendants or very closed loved ones to pass their journals to, and basically know that they don’t have anyone related or loved one to go on after them. I am disturbed by that possibility very much. I mean I am 38 and I so far cannot find a woman to marry. I have very little money to offer. I am very scared that i might never manage to find someone to get old with.

Gramps, Byron Levy, was an unique and impressively highly creative, and productive common Savant. Who seemed to have understand that documenting one's life and experiences with and in this world are not just real history for oneself to keep in one's head, nor for this moment in time alone to perceive. I "like" such Savant gramps and grannies. One would wish Trump, Pence, Netanyahu, Bannon, MBS, Deuterte and co. BS-leaders would and could have had such gramps and grannies too. Because something clearly went off-base in those' genetic and cognitive lineages. APROPOS Savant, I would make bet that Autism, or rather Asperger syndrome is deep within the Levy' family line. Which is interesting, considering that America's growing low-level Autism rate is pretty high. Godless Best, A.E. Projectheureka LLC
