What a great video! I see so many families spending beyond their means at Christmas, and a lot of it is "keeping up with the Jones's"....It is so refreshing to see your attitude towards budgeting and how many presents per child. Very similar to how I grew up. And as for worrying about what other people are going to say or think, they aren't the ones putting food on your table!! Thank you for sharing.

I like the way you do your gifts. I have 4 kids and we set a money amount per kid. So some kids might get more depending on what they want and cost of it. But I always give them clothes, books and stocking stuffers outside of the budget.
@WrightAtHome8 жыл бұрын
Sounds good do you have the same budget each year?! Thanks for watching An taking the time to comment:)

The budget has been the same for a couple years we may adjust it next year. Thanks for sharing your story.

That looks like a lovely Christmas. I have one child - a daughter in her teens. When she was little, we did small Christmases because we were on a tight budget. One year after I started working more (I had to take about a year off due to health reasons), we did a really big Christmases where we went all-out with a big pile of gifts, because we finally could, and that was fun to do.... once. Then we all agreed it wasn't what we wanted Christmas to be like all the time. Now that she's older, what we do (for all of us, adults, and kid alike) is one thing you really want, a couple of smaller things, and then a family gift that we can all enjoy together.

When I was a kid I remember it being "something to watch, something to play, something to eat, something to wear' or along those lines. We never had a lot of money ( as quick as my mum could earn any money, my dad had already spent it! That and the fact they had a rather big mortgage for that time too) we never went without though, if you know what I mean. I have such fond memories of some good family Christmas 's throughout my childhood, nowadays it's all down to me. I really do go to town on Christmas and new year!
@WrightAtHome8 жыл бұрын
hey Ashley my mum was a single mum bless her so I had a similar upbringing and I hold no grudge towards my mum that I wasn't spoilt to the core infact I appreciated how hard she worked for me an my brother all the more she taught me so much about spending wisely an is why I am the way I am lol I to have a large mortgage now ( I left a comment to kendra explaining why) an gotta work with the hand I've been dealt. its fantastic you go to down at Christmas making memories that will last a lifetime. take care Helen:)

Growing up I never got more then one toy for Christmas and it was usually a board game, then I’d get a video, piece of clothing and something like a watch. I have very little memories of what I got for Christmas because I was never spoilt but I have very fond memories like seeing relatives, Christmas dinner and Xmas telly. My best memory is going to my grandparents and seeing all my family. My grandmother worked in a charity shop so we’d get a box full of little nik naks and that was mine and my siblings most exciting annual event. These days I have 3 girls, and I stress myself out spoiling them. Each year I’ve gone to more and more effort, trying to impress them. I wish I hadn’t, because I doubt they could remember what they got for Christmas last year. I think because we’ve had some struggles during the year, I’m buying them happiness which isn’t the way forward. I’ve cut back a little this year and will cut back each year until they’re used to getting less. Christmas definitely isn’t all about the presents, even my 8 year old said she’d rather have no presents and a Christmas tree then a lots of presents and no Christmas tree. Says it all really!

I think you are fantastic parents and make Xmas magical for them,not only the presents but the lovely safe cosy home,good meals and family traditions and it's that that the kids will remember and most probably pass on to Thier families x

My boys get one thing they really want then they get stockings , books, clothes and some type of video game. It's been like this since they were kids ( they are young adults now) I tend to get it all at once and then wrap it.

Hi, sorry I'm a little late, I was just wondering if you still do Christmas this way event though the boys are older? I LOVE!!! This way of doing it and I think it's a great way to teach them that it's not all about presents. Huge thumbs up from me!!
@WrightAtHome6 жыл бұрын
Hey Kay yea I'm still the same tho it does get harder as they get older how old are your kids :)
@kayw76986 жыл бұрын
Hey Helen, I know the feeling.. mine is 5 but has learning delays meaning his toys etc are more in the 3-4 years range. It does get harder as the older they get the more expensive their "wishlist" items become. From what I've seen of your boys they are really great at not being materialistic and I think that's a credit to yourself and Danny:)

I think your boys are very lucky! They are getting awesome pressies that they will love! My three get a couple main pressies from us, a bunch worth between 15-30$ then a few from Santa and stockings. The big main Santa gift this year is a PS 4. I keep it to $500 per kid from us and $150 from Santa. A lot of the stuff is books, cool clothing etc. As mine are 10,13 and 15.
@WrightAtHome8 жыл бұрын
thank you :) your kids are quite close in age that must be nice girls boys? both? I think as mine get older ill spend the same amount on all of them but at the moment imaging how much my 4 year old would have compared to my 14 year old as they get older there presents cost more for sure thanks for watching an taking the time to comment :)

I think you did the perfect amount! Well done! I hate when kids have piles and piles. My boys are 7 and 4 and I set myself a £100 budget for each of them, I went over though so I would like to get less next year. The less they have the more they appreciate them I think, and I hate toy clutter, it makes it harder for them to play if toys are everywhere. My 4 year olds favourite present was a £1 Paw patrol torch from Poundland, the rest I didn’t need to buy!! New subscriber :) x

I usually get between 15 - 25 presents. Most are clothes and probably 2-3 big presents. I don't brag about what I get cause I would be happy with one. It's really nice that you show your kids it's not all about money and loads of presents

My kids get $100 each for the 17 year old twin boys and the 15 & 13 year old boys too . The older ones out on their own , we do simply $20-$40 gifts . Any "extra people" get $10-$20 . we cannot afford to do more . I am the one buying , preparing and hosting the meal , snacks etc... so I think that is enough . Your Christmas is fine . I also do used things and many come with original tags ! Bonus ! That allows me to get even ore for the person most times .
@WrightAtHome8 жыл бұрын
twin boys wow!! then 2 more boys there all pretty close in age to do they fit a lot mine don't stop not in a aggressive sense but just play fighting which one or more end up crying from but I suppose yours are older so dose that stop? hehe. yea its all down to me to do it all good Job I love organising an that kinda stuff to the point my hubby will say oh thats nice who got ya that... errm you an mummy daddy!! haha... that really did happen!! thank you for watching an taking the time to comment :)

Hello Helen, You are perfect and you certainly have the gift of right reasoning. Do you know of Dave Ramsey? Check him out on You Tube if you don't; I know you will luv him. He has this whole course centering around getting out of debt and financial "freedom"...anyway, I once heard him say that if everyone is looking at you like you are crazy (which we know we are not), then you are doing something right!! That always stuck with me. You need to do what works best for you and your family and you are giving your children wonderful Christmas gifts that have been well and lovingly thought out and purchased wisely on a budget...GOOD FOR YOU!! So refreshing to know there are reasonable folk still left in the world. I don't have children and my niece and nephews are grown and now having kids. Now, I only buy for their children because I can't afford to buy for everyone. I also bake them something nice that I know they will love - something that is their favorite. Great videos..always look forward to the next one. Take care. ~kendra

aww kendra you always comment with such kindness towards me its much appreciated I have heard of other youtubers speak of dave Ramsey but to be honest I've never searched him out or watched him maybe I should!! I'm thankfully out of debt currently but have a large mortgage which I'm trying to pay extra off each month we had sold our small house an moved to a bigger house to cater for my father in law to move in with us he had many health problems an was put into a care home but he was unhappy so thats why but he passed a year ago which set us back a bit with funeral costs plus living in a larger house we don't want to sell as we've grown attached my Olly was born in this house plus its was a repo so the work we've put in was immense I'm currently making a video of photos of the diy photos of us doing up our house. yes thats what we do on my husbands side just buy for the kids. we do what we can do right? plus Christmas is about more than just stuff!! lol take care Helen:)
