I love how wholesome this concept is. Like, it's super dark in that all these heroes died and the afterlife is dark and lonely, but instead of dragging Dismas down to join their misery, they use their suffering to encourage him to enjoy his life because it will suck so much when he joins them. Comradery beyond death, and hope under the shade of horror.

The age of the son in relation to the mother is different based upon height, and the living conditions of the two were entirely different. Reynald's family lived in a tiny cottage on farmland. They're peasants. Not the kind of people with the money to hire a stagecoach and dress as nicely as the woman in the coach. The hair color is difficult to discern based upon lighting, but it seems like it's different.

After the the battle against the ringmaster and her circus, there were casualties. Those who survived moved on to the next Chronicles of their life. As for Dismas, feeling hopeless over everything. Looking at a picture of when he was happy, Dismas couldn't bare to reconnect with Reynauld after everything, he still couldn't forgive himself. As he sits in a cemetery in self-pity, the ghosts of the heroes have found absolution, helped resolve Dismas and his issues. The Highwayman no longer feels sorry for himself. Instead, Dismas resolved his stress and patches things up with Reynauld and their friendship by visiting him and brings a bottle of booze for them to share, talk, and reconnecting.
