With respect to not stagnating by working on your "dream game" first - I've found a lot of joy with working on my dream game as a side project to other projects and tutorials that I work on. The biggest thing I've learned during my time programming is that I can't do everything. I can code all day long, but when it comes to graphic design and complex animation, I'm an utter failure.
@TonsOfHunStudios
@TonsOfHunStudios 5 жыл бұрын
Ah don't say your a failure! We all just have strengths and weaknesses. For example, I can code, kind of do art, but I can't do music/sound for my life. I keep trying, but your right we can't do everything. I'm starting to use more assets now and just focus on the things I'm good at. And regardless, it just takes practice!

When I started Unity, I didn't know anything about it, and I wanted my first game to be really cool, so I spent 1 YEAR on my first unity project, and once the game was finished, I realized I had learnt so much during this year. Now It's been about 9 years I've been practicing code or 6 years of game development, and after making a lot of fun projects and some mobile games, I found myself lacking of a lot of Unity knowledge as for performances optimization, multiplayer code, AI, Blender, and so much more.. So I just looked at a good channel to learn more Unity stuff since I'm not so good with the english documentation, and I found yours, so I hope I'll be able to learn some useful and cool things here, in order to make better projects, in a better way!

Even with the blur, I knew that animation and art was from Noa (Blackthornprod).. For sure I'll participate of the gamejam, with the help of Brackeys Team and Blackthornprod tutorials I could finish my very first game last year.. This year, I migrated from Unity to Godot Engine, but the tutorials of both channels have helped me a lot in my Unity times and I'm very grateful for that. I want to reach 10 years of gamedev too and I will..

Hot damn! I've been spending the last 3+ months learning game design, mostly under your tutelage. I'm super excited to join this Jam as my first Jam ever! I'm nearly finished my first game that I plan to release to itch.IO so I'll have a tiny bit of experience under my belt. I'm not expecting to do anything award worthy, but hopefully this pushes me to learn and break my current limitations! After looking at some of your earlier work, I'm not so embarrassed by what I've created. I can't wait to release it because so far, my friends are way too nice and I need some more feedback than "Wow! I like it". Come on guys, tell me what sucks so I can fix it. Anyway, thank you for helping hosting this Brackeys. This will push me to push past being just a hobbyist.

Nice! I'm currently working on cleaning up my past projects. Extracting the useful scripts I can find in them and have them under a single repository. While also making the scripts a bit more generic if it needs and removing hardcoded references, etc. Currently stuck on two big "systems", the weapon system and health/armor/shield system I have. It's gonna take a while before those are extracted, rewritten to my standards. Can't wait until it is finished. :) Some things that I've learned over the year (mainly interfaces, abstract classes, and ScriptableObjects) have been fun to tinker around with, and I'm still learning something new! I wish I could join for the game jam but Classic is released the 27:th. Sad to say I'm more of a gamer than gamedev. Good luck to everyone else!

First video in a while that I really enjoyed. It was super relatable. I also have dropped so many projects over the years but learned so much from each. And I also remember what got me into Unity and away from Torque was the tornado twins, not that GarageGames cash grab didn't help. But i'm actually currently working on my first publicly released game for an actual profit which is kinda scary. So between that and my real job I'm super busy, but I think I want to try entering the game jam as well. If I push hard enough I think I can make a fun game in a week. Nothing crazy, but at least fun.

Atm it's a series of mini game modes that make up the game, and the current mode I'm working on is almost done. I need 1 more than I'll feel happy with the amount of content accessible to players. I don't want to let people down with too little, even though my intentions are to add updates and more game modes free of cost. Looking for end of next year though if all goes well.
